The Samarinda Crisis

OOC: Oceanic Union nations are welcome to post IC, no OOC (besides this)
IC:

Broadcasted Speech by Unus Air Force Commander Joseph Mckinley:

"(crackling)..The rise of the Mundocracy saw the welcoming of new citizens as well as the departure of ill meaning and potentially threatening refugees who found shelter beyond the borders of this great nation. Let us make it clear beyond any reasonable excuse that we are at war with these malicious refugees and as a matter of national security will seek any means necessary to see to it that the selected threat is neutralized. We have done everything in our power, to secure any and all threating presences residing in this nation but our efforts would be in vein if we did not irradicate every last trace of such from Our Island! Hail to Victory!.."

The Commander had established a name for himself as an aggressive supporter of his party and devout follower of the "occult" preachings of a new age and world order. He hid not this reputation in this particular speech; his nation was endangered and he had recieved his orders..

Under the cover of night 3 strategic bombers take off for Samarinda City, selected for providing refuge for several "Severe Targets". They where armed with heavy bombing as well as recon and observatory equipment. Their flight continued in radio silence from the U.M. border onwards to Samarinda. Unus Jets where on the ready to scramble should they be called for and developing details on the mission where fed rapidly to Olexander himself and the Unus military staff. A quick and simple letter was dictated and sent to the member nations of the Oceanic Union:
We have identified the location of several escaped fugitives within the taget city of: Samarinda. We ask that the Union support our endevours for security and we alert you now to actions being taken by our military in its defence.
Transmission to UM:

Samarinda is under the jurisdiction Oceanic Union forces. While we are willing to assist in the interdiction of proven terrorists, hostile acts on your part toward the people under our protection shall not be tolerated. We demand you turn your bombers around immediately, before this incident progresses along a road neither of us wish to go down.

To Selenarctan Forces in Borneo Protectorate:

Prep the 105th Interceptor Squadron (based out of Borneo) for immediate launch to intercept and escort UM bombers should they come within 150km of Samarinda, and engage at 75km or the first sign of hostile action.

To the dismay of the Unus Military Command, Olexander ordered no immediate reply to the Selenarcten message. It haden't been the reply he had hoped, the mission had been televised and the people where awaiting the results of the nations first major action beyond its own borders. Olexander decided the mission could still be saved. The bombers where ordered to continue to Samarinda, their mission had become a race to provide detailed RECON of Samarinda to Unus Commanders and the luxury of error had been stripped away. In support Unus jets where launched to rendez-vous with the bomber mission and transmit to the Selenarctens that the mission would be braught to a close peacefully if the squadron was allowed to meet their set coordinates and return.

The tension within the Command Nest was high. Men began to perspire, some paced the floor, anxious to receive their next updated feed. Olexander leaned heavily on a desk facing several screens as he followed small "bleeps" across the map. His face was expressionless and his eyes dead set forward. His long black overcoat, adorned with military metals and pins & his motionless stance gave the appearence of a statue placed oddly in the Command room to catch the confusing glare of a rookie officer who made his way into the Nest for the first time.

Reply to UM:

We will not allow armed bombers with an expressed hostile intent to fly over their intended target with merely your word that the mission shall be completed peacefully. The 105th Interceptor Squadron has been launched to ensure your compliance; if your bombers come within 75km of Samarinda, we will open fire.

Om am effort to stop a potential crisis, Australia finally stepped in in a private transmission to both Selenarctos and the Unus Mundocracy.

"If the Mundocracy can provide details about said refugees, Australian forces in the region can help apprehend these individuals with no risk to forces other than our own."

The speech and aircraft were picked up by Taeunas spy sats. An official statement was released by the Foreign Ministry.

Due to the nature of the speech and the following actions, Taeunas declares Joseph Mckinley a war criminal. We wish the OU the best of luck in dealing with these murders. Any refugees needing a home will be welcome in our refugee areas.

Unus jets darted towards Samarinda; their squad commander ordered air-to-air missiles armed for expected engagement with hostile aircraft near Samarinda. The nervous squadron braced themselves for combat and experienced a jolt of addrenaline when several targets appeared on screen. The flank guard pilots broke formation to engage the craft, "Permission, to engage." The squad commander hesitated, then sunk with horror when he saw the Unus insignia on the incomming craft. "Hold your fire!" The disciplined pilots ceased hostile action, though with shock until they themselves realised they had come upon the bomber squadron. Suddenly, a radio transmission broke through. Command had notified the squadron that the zone had turned hot. Hostile retailiation was now expected at a level far beyond the innitial expectations should the mission continue on towards its target. Grudgingly, the entire squad was ordered to return. The bomber pilots had done recon over much of the land between the UM border but short of Samarinda. The city would remain a point of interest and a rallying call for retaliation though details of the mission would not be allowed to surface to the public. They would be notified that the "mission" was in fact not one end all operation but a carefully planned and ongoing endevour for national security. The result was a constant state of military emergency within the Mundocracy and the solidifying of power under Unus government.

A series of documents had been accumulated and extracted from every available personal information and I.D. network. Rapidly a packet of personal files and records of several men and women had been put together, retyped, reprinted, and reprocessed to be faxed to Austailian intelligence. They included several men and women fugitives of the Mundocracy as well as criminal history and sheets of incriminating documentation. All bore the official seal of the Mundocracy and personal signature of Olexander. These would come to be known as The Mark Documents. They ended with a small messege from the Unus government warning of the danger of the over two dozen listed to any and all who may confront them.

The warning was noted. The city in question was thoroughly, and covertly, searched, seeking to verify if, indeed, any of these individuals was in Samarinda. Every time a target was located, they were closely for a short time, to determine what level of force would be needed before any sort of contact was made. Intelligence would strive to find all of them before any overt move was made, to avoid inadvertantly warning any others and gather them all up in one fell swoop.
Encripted Messege to Austrailian Authorities

We request details and involvement in the ongoing investigation of the fugitives, whom we plan to try under Mundocratic laws and national courts with full rights as UM citizens.
The bomber flight and its fighter transport land descretely in a remote airbase. The runway is clean and new; recently constructed, the majority of the base was not yet completed but workers had been given the days leave so as to not risk the planned night mission..

Olexander proclaimed the night reconnaissance mission a success and vital step towards securing the island.
Encrypted reply to the Mundocracy

All but one subject located. Will move in once the whereabouts of all have been concretely determined.
24 hours after the reply, the last man was found, and a brief message sent to the Mundocracy.

The Queendom forces had been in a heightened state of alert, going through a series of drills and skirmish-sized wargames to keep themselves in top form in the relative calm of the protectorate. Now they would be seeing some real action. A full squad was assigned to each fugitive, to ensure minimal chances for escape. And there was no warning. One moment, all the soldiers were apparently going about their regular patrols...and the next, within seconds, each squad was moving in for the capture.

In responce to the latest military intel, Unus Special Troopers of the CC have been assigned to border patrols and defense. Thousands of citizens have converted to volunteer military work force to build for defense, in reality if conflict broke out none of the civilian projects would be prepared in time, but it gave the people hope, purpose, and unity. The Unus Party stressed community and they had experienced early success. Olexander's Personal Guard the Olex-CC had been the only to swear allegiance personally and totally to Olexander, now every soldier and pilot of the Mundocracy had been ordered to do the same.

The Olex-CC had quietly been recalled from the rest of the volunteer and Cosmicorps troopers, to oversee a classified military operation. The men were ordered onto a train, where they found themselves witness to a curious site; hundreds of the nations best scientists, physicists, & occult intellectuals or "masters of knowledge" had already been on the train. The troops found their seat amongst the nations brains as the train took sharp turns on fresh, temporary tracks that led them to their destination. The scientists gasped, the troopers only turned their heads as they approached a mountain as if destined to smash into its side. Before the next thaught came to anyone's mind a small entryway, just large enough for the train to fit, opened in the side of the mountain. For several hours the men continued their trip in darkness, within the mountain. It would seem like a lifetime before light returned and the men saw signs of human life.

Exhausted, but hardworking men could be seen ahead holllowing out more of the mountain, while soldiers, the likes of whom not even the Olex-CC had ever seen ordered the men out of the train. The non-military men where hearded into several escalators. The stationed soldiers completed their orders, relinquishing their weapons to the Olex-CC, who stodd bewildered. The men lined against the back wall and saluted the CC troopers, "Hail Olexander!..Hail!.. Hail to the World Order..Hail!..Hail to the Chosen!!..HAIL!! The Olex-CC was then ordered by commander Lokheed himself to innitiate the staioned troops into the CC. The troops sargeant was assasinated by his own men as a show of loyalty, and they were sworn into the Corps.

The Olex-CC would be the defacto police of what they nicknamed the Underground City. Loud speakers echoed daily with messeges from their commanders, and sometimes Olexander himself:
"There is life beyond our planet, intelligence beyond our dimensions, and technologies beyond our scope in this universe. We offer whatver means necessary to arm ourselves with knowledge once far beyond our reach to transform human civilization."

The CC troops knew little details of the operations beying carried out but they knew there was testing for Alternative Propoltion Systems, odd and new craft, which they assumed where for flying, and obvious weapons research, especially in rocket science.

To OU Nations:
Following the recent incursion of armed bomber craft into OU protectorate airspace, the Unus Mundocracy has begun the construction of fortifications along the UM/OU protectorate border (satellite images of the construction are attached). For the time being, our analysts feel it would be best not to implement massive troop increases so as to avoid appearing hostile.

Movement:
The 1st Naval Task Force and the 114st Interceptor Squadron are being prepped for deployment to Kota Kinabalu, ETA [4 OOC/48 IG hours]. Selenarctan Ground Force troops in Borneo are on low alert, waiting for the next move by UM forces.

Unus radar systems , though sparse, had been on active alert and their operators claimed to have had undoubtedly picked up foreign miltiary aircraft entering Mundocratic airspace. Whether factual or not, the nation reacted with increase ferver as pressure on the young intelligence bureau, A.I.S. (Administration of Intelligence Services) to produce a country responsible for the incursion increased. Taeunas had been a prime suspect, but military commanders denied this claim. Selencarctos had been named. Now, any Selenarcten military craft, or personelle caught entering the land, air, or sea space of the Mundocracy would be fired upon.

Curiously, the troops who had at once expected to be mobolized yet again recieved no such orders. Armored devisions and the mighty airforce where assigned to simple patrols. The nation's commander seemed to be reacting calmly to the supposed threat and few where really sure why. The first civilians to be enlightened manned several of the newly constructed missile silos across the Mundocracy in relative secrecy. After receiving orders to be on Hot Standby, they understood that they, not the military, would be called upon in a comming conflict. Their missiles would carry out the defence of the nation first, and they were ready.

In an attempt to possibly cool the situation, or at the very least, become better informed on it, the military command had kept open communication with Austrailia and much of the OU.

***Classified***

Operation was a success. Every individual acounted for and sedated to prevent attempts at escape, and a brief transmission was sent to the Mundocracy stating as such, and requesting coordinates within Mundocratic borders for a drop-off point.

In the message it also stated that there was now no reason to suspect hostile action on the part of any nation of the OU.

----

Likewise, a message was sent to the other nations of the Union, stating the situation had been dealt with, and confirming that the best course of action was to avoid military buildup on the border.

Civilian operations continued in minimal quantity, so as to avoid appearing threatening towards OU nations. CC troops began to be shifted from their border patrol. Suspecting that perhaps the OU might have more insight into Unus miltiary actions than expected, several missile bays where taken off Launch Readiness. Soon the only military action continuing was light troops deployments near the land border and air patrols. A drop off point near the Mundocratic southern Pacific border was set, as to avoid welcoming any foreign entity to entering uncomfortably far into the nations mainland. A letter of 'thank you' and 'congratulations' was sent out to the Queendom.

As they rode toward the designated coordinates, the Lieutenant in charge of the drop off stared dispassionately at his prisoners, each blindfolded, tied firmly, and shackled. Unimaginative to a fault, the man simply followed orders without question, and his orders were to transfer the prisoners.

The occasional bump in the road jostled both prisoner and guard alike, and the same was true of every vehicle in the convoy--three transport trucks and two IFV's. Not that they expected trouble, but unnecessary preparation was better than avoidable misfortunes.

It wasn't long before the point was reached. Nothing to do now but wait for the handover...

The UM military treated the handoff as the most important mission of current national priority. 3 armored humvees accompanied with a dozen motorcyclist Assult-CC troopers arrived swiftly. Heavily armed and obviously drilled in how to carry out the transaction, the soldiers moved with precision and sincronicity. The humvees where opened and the men accepted the fugitives, whom where loaded swiftly in. The heavy armor doors cealed and locked and the humvees left without hesitation. An Assult-CC sargeant approached the Austrailian Lieutenant and granted him only a salute a National Hero's Metal before taking off with the rest of the convoy.

The UM government announced the fugitives would join the swaths of anarchist dissidents in 1 of 3 newly built internment camps, called for the necessity of security with the swelling of UM prisons with the ban on capital punishment. All fugitives where subject to interrogation, but not reported to the public was the execution of several deemed extreme threats to the state. Olexander was notified that the 4 men and 2 women executed where ex UM scientists with incriminating knowledge of early UM military projects. Most of the projects had been canceled but the group had been exposed to the "back-engeneering" projects of "exotic craft".

The lieutenant looked at the medal curiously for a few seconds before accepting it, but now that the handoff was complete, there really wasn't much reason for him to linger. He returned the salute automatically before waving to his men to load up once more into the vehicles--they would be returning to Samarinda. And if rumors were true concerning the formation of a new government being in the works, they would soon be evacuating from there as well, unless said government wished soldiers of the Union to remain behind to get them on their own feet.
