Make Defcon levels mean something

Right now, Defcon levels are pretty pointless. If you have any sort of game ability what so ever you just sit in Defcon 1 all the time, and then when you want to collect, jump to Defcon 5, collect, and then quickly jump back to Defcon 1 when update hits. Basically the purpose behind Defcon 2,3,4 is COMPLETELY useless... sure there are a few people that run in D2, D3 or D4... but they are just nublets that don't actually understand what is going on... 99% of the rest of the people just sit in either D1 or D5.
Here is a VERY simple change, and it adds a LOT of new wrinkles to the game.
Make it so you can change Defcon every day, but can only go up or down 1 level from your current level. This means to reach D1 you have to spend 5 days adjusting your Defcon down... no more "jumping" around. And the jumping around is highly unrealistic, in a real war scenario a military jumping from D5 to D1 and back again in 30 seconds would NEVER happen.
Makes gearing up for war a "process" and makes people have to consider "hovering" in D3 or D2 or D4 to quickly adjust should war look iminent.
Really, it would change defcon to be what it is meant to be... not just a dumb "switch" that most smart players turn on and off depending if they are collecting.

Day 0(collected): Defcon5
Day 3: Defcon4
Day 6: Defcon3
Day 9: Defcon2
Day12: Defcon1
Day15: Defcon2
Day18: Defcon3
*needs to collect*
Though I suppose defcon swapping isn't a huge problem now, so I shouldn't worry so much about that.

DEFCON is a RL measure of readiness, not of mobilization. You're alluding to mobilization here which is inaccurate. Being mobilized means having a large standing military, max jets, max nukes, max CMs, etc.. This is not "DEFCON." DEFCON means the state of readiness of whatever military a nation already has whether it be large or small.

yep. Again, makes threat levels 2,3,4 actually have a meaning instead of just switching between 1 and 5 whether you are in war or not.
Seriously I love this idea, and half credit needs to go to Seerow for coming up with it, he just wanted it to be every 3 days and only 1 level per change... which imho is WAY to restrictive and may very well have had people coming to my house to kill me if it had been implemented. But once a day seems just about right. Plus people need to remember they can change it ON the day they attack/are attacked etc, and they can change it at the next update before they do anything as well, so you can easily reach D1 in an "effective" 3 days... it still takes 5 days to do it but you can do it faster than you think.

So at the threat of war it would take 4 days to get to defcon 1 and 4 days to get back. That pretty much assures everyone having to collect in high defcon's. If it takes minimum 8 days to rotate in and back out.

Realism - There is no rational reason that a nation would be unable to immediately jump from minimal vigilance to maximum security. To do so makes absolutely no sense in terms of realism or logic.
Not to mention the obvious complications and ways this screws over people being attacked in a war who can't get on an even footing with their opponent until the war is almost over. This grants attackers a terrible advantage, if they have any planning, in regular nation wars or techraids (which I thought we wanted to discourage). It also makes it impossible to launch any decent surprise strike at update, and I can't see any conceivable way of arguing that that is a good thing for gameplay. Surprise makes things exciting and interesting. Either that or we'll have !@#$ wars, which seems like a bad thing too.

In future Ill have to PM all IRON nations 5 days prior to any offensive action which = leaks.
Congrats guys; you just made this game far slower than it already is. Basically now it takes 5 days to launch any reasonable offensive and you can be damn sure everyone will know about it........
Good job for CN forums; I may had well announce 5 days prior to declaring war whats going to happen....... bravo...
/me golfclap........ slow golfclap - that is all.
