Ok, so I go to the gun store for the first time in like a month or two. I figure that with a absence of that magnitude there's got to be something fun and exciting.

I bring $100 not really expecting anything buy hoping for a Mauser. My Polsih Mauser has a duffle cut in the stock that I don't think i can fix, so I wanted another Mauser to shoot.

I payed $50 for this. :awesome: Tis' a Yugoslavian M48 Mauser, I don't know what the date is, but the soldier carved his name into the stock. :) The stock si beat to hell (but cool looking), the bolt is pitted, and much rougher than my Polish Mauser. The barrel is pitted quite a bit, but certainly not un-shootable. :awesome:

The safety won;t turn all the way to the right though. <_<

I'm going to rig something up to shoot it remotely just to be safe.....

$50 was too hard to pass up. Brings my total collection to 21 guns. :)

Slight correction to the OP, its Yugoslavian, not a Turkish Mauser.

Is the Yugo Mauser close enough to the Polish one for you to switch out the stocks? If the bolt and barrel is pitted, its probably better off as a parts gun than a shooter.

I might be able to, but I can't seem to get the Yugo stock off. There's a spring loaded pin holding the front stock band on, I tried to depress it but it stops just short of going below the stock ban. I'm thinking I rig something up in the vice to push that pin in.

The barrel and bolt aren't nearly that bad, the pits on the bolt are just bad enough to feel, and the barrel just enough to make the bore something less than a mirror.
The bore looks like my M44..... the M44 might even be worse.

I suppose it would be foolish to think that was from the Yugoslavian partisans in WW2, given that it is a Mauser. Would be sweet if it was though.

Wolverine, nice pick up! I love the carving on the stock, make it really sweet!

To everyone who thinks $50 is such a sweet deal:

Surplus rifles/pistols can be very cheap. I have a Russian M44, cost $79, and that's not abnormal. My latest pistol is a Hungarian PA-63, cost $89, that's not abnormal either. Both of these are unfired and in excellent condition. The combloc countries built millions of them years ago and now we get them on the cheap. Yay!
