Coming soon to a GVtatorship near you!
Today is a great day in history. Perhaps not as great as the time Reagan outlawed Russia, Tom Hanks won an Oscar for Forrest Gump, or the time the tank pulled down the statue of Saddam, but easily 10 times as great as when Neil Armstrong watched on the Moon.
Today, finally, despite all the obstacles in front of me, I have finally reached 10,000 posts on the CN forums. Many said this day would never come. They said Admin would end the game or I would get banned. They threw things at me on the street when I told them I had just started an awesome topic about how competition could be glad for general welfare. My friends called me a dork when I explained that more condoms have not reduced AIDS. Girls laughed at me when I told them they were being too protectionist of their scarce resources . My teachers told me to get a job. World leaders said they found my ideas intriguing and wished to subscribe to my newsletter.
I had my doubts. Sometimes my topics wouldn’t even get above 10 replies and I would feel down about myself. I think on an occasion or two I even considered deleting my nation because the Boiler Room was just no fun anymore, it having long since been the only reason I still visit these boards.
After all, we kept having the same discussions over and over again.
But I had heroic willpower. I would think back to that day during GWIII, in between trying to poke those dicks in Initiative and saying “AVE LEGIO!” on my Myspace, when I wondered over to the Boiler Room and thought to myself “Hey, here are some lost souls in need of enlightenment!” And so, like the dutiful citizen I was, I rolled up my sleeves, grabbed a bag of Doritos, and set about trying to inform you all about how totally idiotic you were, and why you should all become minarchists supporting limited defensive institutions at the international level. I thought it would be a lot like this:
Instead, it was more like…uhhh…..
Casimir Poseidon at his prime
I gotta say, though, this place has been great. Whereas the normals might shun our political-talking ways, the CN embraces and encourages such a culture. The Boiler Room, out of all the places I have argued on the internet, is the most civil, level-headed, and respectful. Sure, it may be a bit on the liberal side, but what can ya do? Nobody’s perfect
It’s been an immense help, both in refining my writing, and exposing myself to new viewpoints (probably a part of why I’ve moved from being a minarchist to whatever the heck you would call me)
Good times, good times.
Thanks CN! You’re my favorite little guilty pleasure only half of my friends know about.
