Col. Retd. Mahesh Varma is reading a substantial report in his office at 7 Race Course Road. This report would form the basis of the wide range of reforms he had planned for India, reforms which are much needed to bring India to the greatness it deserved.
Mahesh Varma had joined Indian Army through the National Defense Academy and had gotten his choice assignment in Armored Corps. As a young Lieutenant starting in T72s Mahesh finished his army service as a commander of a Brigade of T90s. However when offered the choice of further military service he declined.
His youth he had dedicated to the country. His middle age he wanted to serve the nation in another way.
Scion of the erstwhile Cochin Royal Family he had seen the decline brought to India by the ranks of corrupt politicians. While perusing through old albums of monuments and institutions built or the nation by his forefathers he was aghast at the decline and apathy these national institutions fell to after being under the control of the politicians. However unlike some of his relatives Mahesh had a sound belief in democracy, only that it should be allied to accountability. Accountability is the main hinderence to corruption.
Mahesh's strong sense of patriotism had led to his embarking on a military service at the age of 18 and now at age 40 he embarked on a career of different service.
Bharatiya Janata Party was a party found to oppose the corrupt practices of the Grand Old Party of India, the Indian National Congress. But on its way it too had got corrupted and hence lost its touch with masses. It became more communal and less patriotic.
When Mahesh joined BJP it was in shambles. However the retired Colonel had great visions for this party and all that it could do for his nation. He started his political life from the grass roots and through his immense passion and oratorical skills soon started to regrow the withered roots of the party in the rural hinderlands of India.
From a local party leadership he soon grew up to state leadership and finally he earned a place in the Central Committee. The resounding victories BJP scored in traditional Congress and Communist bastions like Kerala and Tamil Nadu contributed greatly to the immense power that he held.
When the BJP Government was formed in June 2010 Mahesh was assigned the portfolio of Defense Minister. Through a flood of relief measures he did the impossible, he brought Indian military establishment to its highest level of proficiency. Through a series of court martials of corrupt generals and admirals Indian Army, Navy and Air Force soon became the pride of India.
Mahesh had come up through the corrupt ranks of India's political scenario playing a dangerous game. He never shared his full thoughts on political reforms.
Now that he was Prime Minister of the Republic of India now it was time to bring about the changes he dreamed about for long. He knew that the people of India supported him. However first he had to weed out the poison within his own party. Mahesh is now 50 years old.
The report he is reading now would help him with that. It was a comprehensive list of all members of his party with listing of unaccountable assets and properties. First on the copping block would be the Parliamentary MPs. They shall be sacked first, their assets confiscated and finally tried. In their constituencies already Mahesh's people were at work identifying honest candidates for standing for the soon to come by elections. After the MPs and senior leaderships then would come the rank and file members. They would be given the option for voluntary disclosure and giving extra assets to the government. After BJP has been weeded out time would come for the other parties.
He knew that he would face vociferous opposition but that he was prepared to handle. Even within his party's MPs Mahesh had a clear 3/5 majority of members allied to him.
India was going for a period of change that would bring it surging into the ranks of the greatest super powers ever.
