What do you people really think Obama is going to say to the children? When I was in school Reagan, Bush Sr. and Clinton never spoke to us, Bush Jr. was using a pre-school as a photo op when 9/11 happened.....Let Obama speak to the children. Get you...r heads out of your @#$% and realize this is an opportunity for them. If you don't like it, Mexico is south and Canada is north and Cuba is a short swim from Florida.....start packing.

Seriously, as a citizen of the USA I WANT our president to speak to our children. If Palin, McCain, Romney, Paul..etc were president even if I didn't vote for them I would want them to speak to the kids of america. GW was using a pre-school as a photo op when 9/11 happened.....it's ok to use our schools for PR but not to actually do something educational and constructive?

WHY IS THIS AN ISSUE?

As a kid I would have loved Reagan, Bush Sr. and Clinton to have taken the time to speak to my generation.

Well then, my point stands though. What is the issue?

I really don't remember them talking to us........maybe my schools chose not to show it.

I wouldn't want a stranger talking to my children.
Especially during school hours.

Well that an technology was not the same back then.

There is no issue.

But i can point out something stupid some people are the left are screaming about and come here create a thread and say, omg whats the problem, who are these whackos.

it would b e the same.

ignore birthers, people who scream socialist, etc... etc...

There are plenty of us who disagree with his policies and will debate his policies vigorously. Unless you purpose is to attempt to paint us all as these whackjobs?

Your kids teachers are strangers, you let them talk and care for your children 8 hours a day.

No, I do not want to paint everyone who disagrees with me as a whack job. Maybe I am a different kind of parent, I want my kids to grow up and have their own views on things and not just be a direct copy of my views. When it comes to the president, whether I support the person or not, I would welcome them to speak to the youth of the nation. I was not a GW Bush supporter by any means, but I would welcome him to speak to my kids.

The President of the US should be able to speak to the kids of the nation if he wants to.

I have no kids, so they don't have teachers who are strangers. :P

But a teacher is some in a position of authority I trust my (future) children with.

I agree, my point though, is there isn't some outrage over this, its not a big story, i scour the news all day and different forums, and you posting it is the first I heard of it.

I guess my point was, you found some people upset about it, its still a no story, its not like th whole GOP is rising up in revolution.

Of course the president should speak to the students, ok there is some nut somewhere, whats to debate?

They played the story last night on my local news and then I saw it pop up on CNN and Google News today. Perhaps I am blowing it out of proportion.

Well, if Obama was pushing his views, it would be a problem. But if it's only a "stay-in-school" thing, a-okay.

EDIT: It's still a bit freaky to live in a nation where everyone has to sit down and watch Dear Leader's message

I don't know what the exact agenda is, therefore I can't make an exact decision. If he really is there to encourage the kids to do better, then I can't see much harm in that. (Pro: He made it to presidency, thus he's a great person to speak on the issue for getting so far; Con: As a politician, he's a native liar, and we shouldn't teach our kids to lie.) If he actually does end up pushing partisan issues or political, then I will have a big problem with that.
