Old school v. New school: Horror Movie Villains

Jason v. Jigsaw?
Freddy v. The girl from the Ring (Samara) and the guys from the Grudge?
Just in general, old horror movie villains or today's horror villains?
I go with today's guys. The classic guys are "classic" but today's guys are scarier (to me) because it's more graphic, they can kill you other ways besides stabby stab or cut cut... Make the argument about style over substance, but the guys today have a significant advantage because of technology and what we expect out of them.
I really hate super intense gore, but in general, the guys today creep me out more.

Today's killers are actors in poorly made snuff films. Sure, Jigsaw will mindf--k you before you kill yourself, but Freddy's invasion of your mind was so much more personal.
And the key factor: The killers of today don't have any cheesy one-liners. I loved Freddy for that. Always will.

And Jason movies suck regardless of when they are made. worst concept ever.

I can beat the crap out of 1970s Michael Myers.
Freddy had a sense of humor. Not too scary. Jason and Leatherface (basically the same) were either "too powerful" or just uninspired. I KILLZ YOO!
Chuckie was a little punk.
I would give Dr. H. Lecter to the "old" crowd, but he's an entirely different league than the rest of his generation.
Nowaday: Samara gets an instant kill on you if you don't pass the tape along.
The Grudge follows you.
Getting Saw'd almost gurantees you'll become messed up or dead.

The old one's are definately the best, although there are a few good new ones, like Dawn of the Dead.

Why? Nothing good happened in the 90's except really bad sequels to milk the old franchises. The "old school" refers to 70s-80s (not as far back as Dracula and Frankenstein and that gang.)
http://www.imdb.com/chart/horror
Nothing from either era appears there except for the original the Exorcist, Halloween, Aliens, and Alien, and Jaws. I don't consider Xenomorphs as a typical horror villain just because they're aliens and it just strikes me as more action and sci-fi. Jaws is also excluded.
The Exorcist is another that I'd consider classic, but way beyond its generation.
2000 being the cutoff was placed because that's when we start seeing the newer stuff. Not right at 2000, but horror movies started coming back. (original ones, not sequels like Halloween 8 and Freddy vs. Jason and Jason X)

Yes and he only comes back once a year. And the whole "I have a curse" thing was used just to extend the life of the franchise. Did you see how many times he gets pwn'd throughout eight movies?

Got to agree with this. How can anyone not love Freddy?
I prefer the old school stuff, they did not have the graphics we have now but they made up for it in other ways. Although there were some boring villians in that generation too, never really liked Jason.
There are some decent ones in this generation, however most of the stuff I've seen come out have just been the slasher type villians, or the movie aims at perversion in order to freak the audience out, and they generally try to throw in as many scantily clad women and sex scenes as possible.
There are the exceptions though, like Jigsaw and the girl from Silent Hill.

It's like pirates vs. ninjas. Doesn't matter how you go about it (who would win a fight, who's cooler, whatever). It's an average of several factors.

Old horror movies suck - it's sad, but true. There are a lot of bad new movies (particullarly the gornography ones that are just fake blood and gross torture devices), but some are good.
