Purposes

I was having this thought on the way to my workplace yesterday, and I just remembered it. What is your purpose, goal, dream, etc, in life? Are you making progress on that goal? Why do you want to pursue it? This isn't really meant to be a debate, just something that interested me.
My goal is to become a nuclear physicist. My dream is to work at CERN, among all the greatest scientists in the world. I love science, and it's the only 'core' subject that I actually enjoy. I've taken every available course at my school (except for physics, which happens next year, and Advanced Chemistry, which I probably won't take until college) and have high aspirations for what will happen in the future. As for why I want to do this, I don't really know. Science just managed to fit into my brain's sulci (lol biology).
What about you?
(I really don't know if this belongs here or in the Water Cooler. I feel like its a little to serious for the WC, though, so I'm posting it here.)

Well I'm going to do something whit IT, yet undecided if I should program or going to be a system administrator.
On the Personal side I want to sustain my own family whit only my own craft and just block out all other politics, creating a little communist community.
Both of those can or will fail lol

Good luck with the science thing. Your really lucky that an important subject like science interests you.
As for me, I despise classes even though Im quite smart, my goal is to be an NBA player, or atleast play basketball professionally. I love the game and if I can make a good impression in high school, who knows what can happens.
As that dream has a 99.99% chance of failing miserably, as most athletes dreams, my failback is to become a sports broadcaster or writer

My goal is to make a living doing what I love: music.
My dream is to do that by being in a successful band.
I like to think I'm making progress, I've been improving my songwriting and musicianship greatly over the past few years and have been dabbling in the production end of things when doing my own little recordings.
Really, all I need to do now is get a connection in the business and I should be set.
If that doesn't work, I'll get a job in sound production for some movies or games and work my way over from there.
If that doesn't work, I'll work for my dad, I guess. His job (building pipe organs) is music-related, although not quite the kind I like as much.

My purpose is to overthrow capitalism.
Philanthropy at it's finest.
But as for myself, I plan on either becoming a General Surgeon or a Military General. Quite strange how I can have an interest in two fields that are polar opposites. One of which benefits humanity, while the other does the exact opposite. Strange world we live in, is it not?

A military general can save many lives by stopping a tyrant, or creating peace through victory.

You're an intelligent man, from what I've seen of you in the boiler room. Do you honesty, in your right mind, believe that a state would orchestrate a war that will jeopardize the state's ruling class and power, to topple a tyrant for the simple fuzzy feeling of bringing about good in this world?
If that was the case, then you'd be seeing present day governments collapsing right and left, warring the bordering states. Each government would see itself as the beacon of good and others as the flames of hate.
Now after reading what I stated, what are the chances of myself becoming a general in a state that is the "beacon of good," do you believe? If you said "impossible, since utopia is only a fantasy," then you, my friend, have once again proven to me how intelligent you are.
