As the plane landed at Patrick Pearse International Airport, about 20 miles north of Cruachan, Kaiserin Magnhild and her bodyguards disembarked onto the tarmac, and were greeted by the President of the Tahoe Republic, Sean O'Deaghaidh a very tall middle aged man with broad shoulders and reddish brown hair and green eyes. A military band played the national anthem of Nordland and a company of soldiers, about 120 in all stood at attention waiting to be reviewed by the President and Kaiserin. A small army of press and a few hundred civilians, most waving flags and cheering although a dozen or so carried signs saying "No to Nordic Fascism" and "Free Slavorussia".
As the Kaiserin stepped off the boarding stairs, she was greeted by the President who warmly shook her hand, saying "Welcome to Tahoe, your majesty, welcome to Tahoe. Pardon the lack of sophisticated ceremony, we aren't big on pomp and circumstance here, even for an Empress" The President grinned, and led the Kaiserin over to review the troops before waving to the crowd for a while before getting in a black limousine with small Tahoan and Nordic flags flying on the hood.
The limousine immediately began the 20 minute drive back into Cruachan with the Kaiserin and President chatting in the back. Bodyguards and escorts drove in three black SUVs escorting the limo. Driving past the farms that surrounded both the city and airport, the President explained that Tahoe was a very rural nation with agriculture being a staple for most citizens, and that there was very few suburban communities, with most of the population being concentrated in small, dense urban areas or huge, widespread rural regions. About 5 minutes into the drive, the skyline of the city came into view, first the few tall buildings making up the financial district and then the gleaming domes of the National Capitol and St. Patrick Cathedral.
Driving over the Sacramento River Bridge into the city itself, Magnhild immediately noticed the tree lined streets with expensive cars and stately buildings seemed uncrowded and unhurried, hardly what one would consider a busy urban area. People walked along the streets and numerous parks of the city slowly, as if enjoying it, although clearly with a purpose. Only around the numerous open air markets did there seem to be a buzz in the air.
The limousine passed wrought iron gates and approached a large house with a Tahoan flag flying over it, the President's Mansion. They entered the building and headed towards O'Deaghaidhs office, which had windows over looking the city and river. Large bookcases stood against wood panneled walls. The President and Kaiserin sat down in large comfortable chairs.
"So what is it you come to Tahoe for?"
