Azeris protest against Artemis troops

Agostinho Neto

Recommended Posts

Thousands of Azeris angry at the presence of Artemis troops in Baku took to the streets today, waving Slavorussian and Azeri flags and urging the troops to leave. “Artemis military: You are not a liberating military, you are an occupying force, get out! You are not welcome!” one man was heard shouting. The Artemis troops allowed residents of the city of Baku to begin returning two days after they fled Nordic air attacks and advancing troops. Chaotic crowds of people and cars were jammed outside the city as Azeri police tried to control the mass return by setting up makeshift checkpoints. Those who were let through came back to find a city battered by bombs, suffering from food shortages and gripped by anguish.

Surman Gubanov, 42, stayed in Baku, taking shelter in a basement after his apartment was destroyed by a Nordic bomb. Several days ago, he tried to bury three relatives killed by a bomb, placing what body parts he could find in a shallow grave covered by a burnt log, a rock and a piece of scrap metal. "I took only a foot and some of a torso. I could not get the other bodies out," he said. His next-door neighbor, Frosia Mamedov, found most of her apartment destroyed, leaving only a room the size of a broom closet to stay in. "I have nothing. My neighbors feed me if they have food to share, and this is in the name of freedom? We don't want to be controlled by the nords, we have a national identity, we will not become nords all of a sudden to be friends of the Europeans, we aren't hypocrits like their own allies" the 70-year-old woman said.

“They have the Nordic flag, and that flag is not our Azerbaijani flag,” said one protester, Sulkhan Allahyarov. “Azerbaijan is not a member of this organization, so the troops must leave very quickly,” he said. “Yes, we lost the war, but that doesn’t mean that we will sit and watch as they drive around in Hummers,” he added.

"Three points. First of all, Hummers are civilian vehicles, we use Humvees. Second, we do not fly the Nordic flag. Finally, your country can be on the verge of being much worse off. We're here for a reason."

Director Hiley agitatedly issued that short response to the riots. Moments later, he ordered an influx of around 200,000 volunteers that had been sent to Rebel Army to head north and into Azerbaijan. They would bring materials, supplies and aid.

Thousands of Azeri men and women including school children took to main streets in Baku few minutes ago, in protest of the ongoing Artemis occupation of the transcaucasian country. The rally, which began today afternoon is the largest, since local protests have been widely spread in the occupied Baku, as the local committee for breaking the occupation, launched early this day what it called ' a one-month protest' locally and nation-wide. Speaking to reporters in the rally, Ogtay Asadov, speaker of Azerbaijan's National Assembly, said "What a fault Azeris have committed to live under constant presence of foreign troops? What a fault the azeri people have done to be denied their full independence? We didn't sell our honor, we didn't sell our ideals to the nords!". "We are not here to make deals, Artemis troops must leave now, or we will enact a serie of non-cooperation decrees that will make their life impossible here, with the Government, and the people". Mr Asadov told the DailyNews.Az that "we are here to send out a clear message to the world that we still exist that we are steadfast until the occupation comes to an end".

A woman spoke out against the occupation " we call upon the Civilized and Democratic nations to stand by us under this crippling situation. We are here to protest against the occupations that has denied us the basic rights to live as human beings". On both sides of the main road in Baku, school boys and girls, lined up, holding posters , reading " lift the occupation, let us live as normal as children". Demonstrators gathered few hundred meters away from an Artemis military checkpoint. "On behalf of President Ilham Aliyev, I would like to greet all the crowds here, who came from many parts of Azerbaijan to protest the occupation", Asadov told the demonstrators.

The Azeri Government thanks the SSC for their offer but for security reasons we must decline. We are not concerned about our security, the law enforcement bodies are already on their tracks, aswell as the army, but for obvious reason we are not gonna deploy troops in our own country as it would light up protests and further disorder. What we ask is international support to convince Artemis to withdraw their troops. Our Government supports the protests, tought we are not enacting them by our own initiative, it's the Azeri people.

*Private message to Artemis Global Security*

We believe it would be better - meaning, there would be fewer protests and more cooperation - if a nation with a similar ideology, such as Canada would take over the task of giving the Azeri people supplies. If they don't want your men in their country, it may in the end get violent, and we don't want that; Neither do you, we hope.

Unless you have other reasons to stay in the country, in which case we would like to know them.

*Private message to the Azerbaijan government*

We are in the process of talking to AGS, asking them to withdraw from your territory. If they do withdraw, we will, with your approval, send 10,000 men and quite a lot of humanitarian aid. The soldiers would be there to ensure that the aid is distributed fairly, nothing more.

If Artemis does not withdraw, we can only apply some political pressure on them, though, as they are a company, this will likely not be as successful as if we applied pressure on a normal nation, such as Dragonisia or Transvaal.

Our people wouldn't be happy to see a foreign force leaving, and another one landing, we can accept the humanitarian aids into our nation, but from that point only the Azeri army will ensure things will be fairly organized and administrated. We must send the clear message that we are independent and sovereign, and that we don't rely on foreign troops to ensure the stability of our country.

Vaule's Ambassador to Azerbaijan voices his sincere concern at the situation in Azerbaijan, but says that "Until it is clear who is in charge of Vaule, there is very little, if anything that we can do. Nonetheless it is my sincere hope that the wishes of the Azeri people shall be respected by all involved.

VNN: There are rumors that Vaule's Ambassador to Azerbaijan, His Excellency Sir Vladimir Zhukovsky, attended one of the protests however the Vaulian Embassy in Azerbaijan, and the Government led by Princess Azleya vehemently deny this.

***Coded Message to the leadership of Azerbaijan***

From: Undisclosed location, Vaule Socialist Republic

It is with the most profound regret that I say that the government of the VSR is sorry for not being able to provide assistance to our allies Azerbaijan both in the war, and in the aftermath. Although we are in the midst of a civil conflict, we have not forgotten the people of Azerbaijan. We hope that Artemis will respect the wishes of the people of Azerbaijan and will withdraw from their territory.

From here, I can do little more than send messages without revealing my location. However words are powerful things.

Sincerely,

Yuri Rokossovsky, President-in-exile, Vaule Socialist Republic

Unfortunately, we must decline your request. Artemis is taking the conservative route and letting them voice their disagreements. We have hundreds of millions of sympathetic citizens across the world ready to pitch in, an army capable of training the Azeri army beyond their old standard, and a rebuilding process that can modernize the country within four years. If you wish to contribute, talk to the Azeris. Perhaps they'll be warmer to you.

We can understand that you dislike the thought of another force landing, but we would bring only 10,000 men - much less, perhaps only 5% or less of what Artemis currently has in your country.

However, we will obey your wishes if you really do not want any foreigners in your country - not even those of similar ideology - and only send the humanitarian aid once Artemis has withdrawn.

Also, it seems that Artemis does not wish to withdraw - they wish to modernise your army and rebuild your country within only a few years.

More than 2,000 demonstrators angry about the occupation of Azerbaijan clashed with police, shattered foreign storefronts and torched european businesses this evening. The chaos reflected the often violent Azeri nationalism as foreign countries de facto limitate independence and sovereignty of the country. Past situations have drawn bitter opposition and similarly angry protests. A group of protesters threatened a barricade of riot police, prompting authorities to fire tear gas into the crowd.

The protesters, armed with large wooden clubs, began smashing european immigrants' storefront windows and setting at least one bank on fire just 200 meters away from an Artemis military checkpoint. The police prevented rioters from clashing with the soldiers. One restaurant with anti-occupation posters plastered across its windows was untouched. Car sirens wailed and residents — including elderly people and children — fled as protesters launched rocks with slingshots and threw sharpened sticks at police. They also set fire to flags of European countries, using them as fuel for bonfires.

Azerbaijani Police Closes border to Artemis Volounteers

The situation on the border is also tense tonight. Whilst the Artemis Global Security are trying to move volounteers into the country, Azerbaijan’s Police and Army are carefully monitoring their movement with telescopes, the Minister of Interior said they will not be granted access into the country "The decision of pouring 200.000 volounteers into Azerbaijan was a unilateral decision of the Artemis Global Security, they didn't ask our position on that. The people and we, the Government, have made clear whats the position on the occupation force. They have to leave Azerbaijan and never come back."

The border between Azerbaijan and Rebel Army to the south, is being controlled by the Azerbaijani police, which have prohibited foreign citizens from entering the country, reports the Ministry of Interior. "At the border, all people who are not citizens of Azerbaijan will not be able to enter" said the spokesperson of the Azerbaijani police. He warned that this decision has been made because of today’s events in Baku. The spokesperson also said that the situation on the border is calm, and that no protesters have been seen yet.

Several commentators unaffiliated with the government blasted Artemis' latest move.

"Oh, yeah, that's real smart. They say, 'get out.' So Artemis says, 'this is for your own good.' Azerbaijan protests, repeating even louder, 'get out.' In response Artemis kicks them in the gut. That's a real intelligent move. Yeah, their leaders should be nopminated for the moron's Olympics."

OOC: I mean it when I say it's not the government saying that. So far the government hasn;t responded to it.

The Azerbaijani Rebellion

Azeri police officers refused to hand over their weapons and opened fire against Artemis soldiers in the streets of Baku. The population nor the authorities are obeying Artemis soldiers and a nationwide rebellion is slowly taking over the streets. Soon Artemis soldiers will be sorrounded by mobs of angry rioters, throwing rocks and stuff at them. The demonstration in Baku suddenly turned violent as the news of Artemis taking over the country arrived to the crowds, witnesses reports thousands of protesters are taking over the streets and challenging Artemis troops with molotov and homemade explosives. Tensions erupted when about 100 police officers barricaded in the Head Quarter of the Azerbaijani Regional Police, and waved Azeri flags, preparing for a strong resistance. Back on the streets, a few armed people engaged Artemis infantry in the center of Baku, trought alley ways and the poor suburbs of the Capital City, where armed mobs of youths have engaged enemy soldiers from hidden spots and windows.

They were joined by hundreds of police officers, in the heart of the capital. When armed police arrived to defend the population, the population immediatly joined them and launched molotov $@tails at Artemis soldiers "We knew it! They are invaders! We must force them out! They can say whatever they want, but they didn't shut down ANYTHING! WE ARE STILL HERE, AND WE ARE FIGHTING!" a protester shouted at DailyNews.Az reporter.

"The pot is now boiling," said an eyewitness. "We have never seen anything like this before, police officers and ordinary people standing side by side and fighting the invaders. I'm gonna join them too, i prefere to die rather than see our country annexed". Two generals arrived and their presence appeared to rally the citizens and officers, and promised weapons and reinforcements from the Azerbaijani Army who has also been called to defend the capital city. President Ilham Aliyev is still hidden in an undisclosed location, and didn't release any statement.

"The People's Republic is very concerned about the situation in Azerbaijan. Whether Artemis's intentions are pure or not, we don't have the authority to say, the Azeri's would obviously rather make it their own way without Artemis help. I think they realize that there is a great chance of them floundering for quite some time, although it appears that they are willing to accept it.

Do not view it as a defeat to pull out, Artemis. It is a situation that has mutated beyond its original dimensions. That is our simple counsel, you may listen or you may not. It is of little consequence to us both, I think."

A rebel leader released the following statement. The statement was broadcasted on radios and TV

"We, the Azeri people, don't need foreign troops to teach how to live in OUR land, we have always achieved our goals with our own efforts and we always succeded! The brought fear and oppression in Azerbaijan, they tought our people would just let them control us and govern us and tell us what to do, but in their way. They were wrong. We are a free people! Constantinople itself recognised our freedom! Nobody has the right to take that freedom away, especially a foreign "security group". They are fools, if they think our secular Republic will bow to some foreign corporation. They will have to fight their way into baku, we will wait them behind every corner, we will shoot them from above, we will hit them when they less expect us coming from behind! Leave this country, there is an entire people standing between your troops and our country, remember that, Invader.

This is not an ordinary riot, we are not hooligans. This, is the Azeri rebellion."

Non-Violent Resistance Embraced by Artemis Soldiers

Artemis Global Security soldiers today dropped their conventional weapons in favor of non-violent resistance, although resist they shall. While Azerbaijani citizens continue to attempt to "free themselves from invaders", the Artemis soldiers have continued to bring in supplies, food and aid from the outside world. As the country attempts to cave in on itself, Artemis soldiers allow themselves to be stricken down in the streets. As of yet, there are no deaths in the riots but several injuries against Artemis soldiers who refused to put up a fight. Outside of the Capital City, Artemis soldiers continued cleaning up the debris and destruction and planting new trees. Orphanages were being built for the children who lost parents, and homes were being rebuilt as well.

Once the rebellion hit a certain part of the streets, the Artemis soldiers continued their rebuilding efforts and kept guard over the volunteers, who were instructed to embrace the feelings of the Azerbaijani peoples.

Revolting citizens in Baku attacked an aid convoy of the Artemis Group, soldiers and army veichles and fought running battles, authorities said, as violent protests against the occupation continued in the night. The mob, armed with batons and white weapons, stopped the volounteers convoy and demanded them to turn around and leave Baku "Get out of our land!" then the rioters suddenly charged the volounteers, assaulting the convoy and trying to beat down all of its members, without killing them tough.

The police also ambushed an Infantry Fighting Veichle, in central Baku, when the crowd of several hundred people were stopped by the Artemis military. The protesters retreated but the tense confrontation continued when the Azeri police arrived in their support.

Youths -- some on foot, others riding motorcycles -- attacked an AGS army truck with petrol bombs as well as at least three checkpoints and several army veichles, rebel sources said. Several hundred protesters set up burning barricades and attacked soldiers with rocks and flares. Riot police fired tear gas against the soldiers to push them back from the center of the Capital. The protesters chanted "invaders out".

Violence is wrecking the Capital City. The riots throughout the city have left at least 70 people injured. Hundreds of veichles have been smashed during the fights but no people were reported dead yet. While most of the protesters have been violent, a small peaceful fringe formed a human chain infront of Baku's Presidential Palace. The building is reported to be abandoned, but the people defended him as "A symbol of Azerbaijan's independence.

The situation in Azerbaijan is unfortunate at best and while my country commends the Artemis Corporation on their continuing efforts to increase aid to this country I must also criticize to the highest degree in their handling of the political and social situations here. In regards to closing borders and cutting off any connection to the outside world, this corporation has overstepped its boundaries and though they have always held the Hansa in the highest regard, I plea for the CEO of Artemis to rethink his decision about the treatment of the Azeri people. They have been through a great deal already and this is the final front for what stemmed from the Russo-Nordic War. If Artemis cannot successful maintain this population accept my coercion, perhaps the White Cross would be better suited for this engagement.

I am not saying that the Corporation is not trying, you have done much, but remember these people are suffering and strict despotism, even to maintain order is lost when all the people desire is freedom.

At the same time, I would hope that the Azerbaijan government can in someway inspire order to their own people, as this rebellion will only further their suffering. Mutual agreement by both parties is the only true way to solve this problem.

THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT

AZERBAIJANI REPUBLIC

The situation seems to be clear enough to avoid useless toughts on the matter, and useless shows of "compassion and humanity". We, the Government of Azerbaijan, the only legitimate authority over the Republic and its Citizens, oppose the occupation and fully support the rebellion. We are not willing to accept the presence of a foreign organization on our national soil. The constitution of the Azerbaijani Republic says the Republic is Sovereign and Independent, no other constitutions are valid on it.

The Artemis Group has no authority and no support to shut down our police, our borders, and our Government. The Azerbaijani Republic consists of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Nakichevan and Talyshtan, i doubt the Artemis Group will ever each all of the areas and gain any support from the civilian population, i made clear in the past that we don't want to see any foreign organization on our territory, thats also valid on the White Cross, which is close to the Nordic Confederacy, the responsible of the destruction in Slavorussia and Baku. They declared war on Slavorussia and killed thousands of innocents, yet the White Cross is a close friend of those countries. Tought this is not of our concern, the White Cross can choose its own foreign policy, as we choose ours. A

We have the Red Crescent organization, the emergency service is fully operational, and the construction efforts by Artemis are not welcome.

We will not even open diplomatic talks with Artemis, there is no deal on this matter, they must leave Azerbaijan, they must leave our land now.

To: Ilham Heydar Oglu Aliyev, President of the Azerbaijani Republic

Excellency,

I apologize for my statement as it seemed you took it as to isolate Azerbaijan from the rest of the world politic. I understand your concern for your people's sovereignty and that fight is more noble than anything a leader can fight for, if you would allow me the pleasure of trying to enter talks with the Executives of the Artemis Group as for their immediate withdraw from your country I can do that as your people have been through much during the past war and I cannot imagine the amount of stress that you and your people are going through. However, I want to let you know that the Hansa will support any movement you may have to expel Artemis from your land if you have no desire for them to be there. In addition, I fully support your rebellion due to their hastily political move to close down the borders of your country. The philosophers of the past have often talked about the people rising up to defend their national sovereignty from the despots and if that is your intention than I salute you in all aspects.

However, as to your criticism of the White Cross and its foreign policy I accept any and all criticism, but the White Cross does not function to only help one side of a conflict. In fact, if I may be blunt, no White Cross workers helped in the renovation of members of true Nordlandic Confederacy members, Kotka in Molakia, which is not part of the Nordlandic Confederacy, though allied to them was the only city that was bombed during our participation of aid in the war. Unfortunately, the bombing of Baku did not enter into our intelligence and I will take personal blame for this, however I do not want to seem to isolate Azerbaijan from the rest of the world as I have extreme respect to you and your nation Excellency.

With your permission, I will be honored to intervene with Artemis on your behalf as a gesture of apology to you and your people. In addition if there is anything that the White Cross or the Hansa can do to alleviate your pain, do not hesitate to ask.

Sincerely,

Sarah Tintagyl
