Agostinho Neto
The People's Assembly of the Azerbaijani Republic approved a same-sex marriage law today, angering such opponents as the Azerbaijan Chatolic Association, which denounced the measure as "unjust." Azerbaijan's action follows similar moves by Armenia, where civil-union has been legal for some time. Gazanfar Musabekov, minister of Labour and Social Protection of Population, flashes a victory sign outside the parliament building in Baku after Azerbaijan became the first country in the Transcaucasus to give same sex couples the same right to marriage as heterosexuals. Same-sex marriages will be permitted in Azerbaijan as soon as the law, which passed the People's Assembly, is published in the official government registry, according to the People's Assembly press office. The Azerbaijani law also gives same-sex couples the right to adopt children and receive inheritances. The vote was held after Chairman Heydar Aliyev unexpectedly took the floor of parliament to speak in its support. "We are expanding the opportunities for happiness of our citizens, our colleagues, our friends and our relatives. Gay people are citizens just like heterosexual, henceforth they have the same rights." he said. "At the same time, we are building a more decent society. A Government of the people, a Government for the people." A roar of applause rippled through the visitors' galleries of the historic Parliament building, and supporters who had gathered outside the building cheered after votes were cast "I'm very happy the new government is also implementing changes towards social issues" said a passerby in Baku. Vedran
Arctica hopes that this trend of progress in Azerbaijan continues. Homosexual unions have had the same legal status as heterosexual unions in Arctica for some time, and it pleases us to see that yet another country is starting to put old ways of thought behind itself. Sarah Tintagyl
With the passing of laws such as these, total world toleration of various issues will begin to progress. The Hansa congratulates Azerbaijan on its liberal stance on issues such as homosexuality, we hope that it does not stop there and that liberalism and human rights continue to flourish in Central Asia and continue to the countries beyond your borders. King Kevz
Due to this recent development in Azerbaijan none of their citizens may enter our territory though we highly doubt they ever would need to but regardless they are hereby banned from entry until told otherwise. Subtleknifewielder
Promised land notes that while this is progression, not all progression is positive. On the same note, not all change is negative. This is one of those things that is debatable by many. We do note, however, that some-sex marriages are permitted in Promised Land, though frowned upon by a large portion of the population. Justinian the Mighty
Homosexuals in Slavorussia are applying for travel permits to Azerbaijan. Thousands of Slavorussians hope to be married in Azerbaijan, despite the fact that their union won't be recognized at home. Although they regret the fact that as long as the monarchy exists to connect the Russian Orthodox church to government they can never legally marry in Slavorussia, they hope neighboring nations will help bring the change to the empire. JEDCJT
As a Christian nation, the UK frowns upon the legalization of same-sex marriage. As such, we will neither support nor condemn this act, but we do applaud Azerbaijan for its progress.
Vasili Markov
I do not care who marries who in my country just so long as they pay the licence fee. 1.13% of all unions in our nation are same sex. and they are quite productive citizens so we do not interfere in their home life. We congratulate Azerbaijan on its progress towards greater civil rights.
Shadowsage
We could honestly care less about the personal lives of the people; who and what they do is their own business so long as it doesn't imperil their fellow citizens, Imperial Property, or the Government. Thus, we have no real opinion on this matter aside from some faint twinge of amusement at what most call 'Progress'.
Comrade
Molakia is currently forming its religious, if we have one, identity. However, Molakia has always alowed marriage between same sex couples, and it will stay that way. We noticed a decrease in the birth rate however.... Sir Keshav IV
This news is highly frowned upon in Manchuria. The Board of Directors have passed a law which bans homosexuals and travel to Azerbaijan for the fear it will bring this stupid practice back home. Lynneth
As the only way for an official union in Canada is not the religious marriage done by a priest, but the union made by the General Register Office, people are free to marry whoever they like, as long as it's a Homo Sapiens, though Monogamy and heterosexual marriage are encouraged as homosexual couples are unable to have children without adopting them. LeVentNoir
"Marriage" does not exist in Aotearoa, as discrimination based upon sexual relationship status is not permitted. All people are free to live and conduct whatever sexual practices they choose as long as the partner is above the age of consent, gives consent and is human.
