Do not buy this game for the PC, it is a giant pile of bugs and bethesda should be ashamed for even putting it on the market. I bought the game, put it on a system that more than meets the requirement and after HOURS of fixes and patches and uninstalls and reinstalls I have still not gotten past the initial loading screen. I went to the official forums and this seems to be more common among users than actually getting the game to run properly.

this is why I usually do console gaming, I should have known better.

Shooters/RPGs bore me anyway.

Strategies are better by far.

First of all, buy a PC game?
Second, I had no problems with it and it is infinitely superior to the console version because you can mod it. There are bug fixing mods, by the way.

Good news for you now days it seems that console games have a increased amount of bugs. And there are fallout bugs on the consoles to.

From what I can tell you got very lucky, it seems most people either have the issue I am having or have the game crash every 30mins to an hour.

I knew I should have got it for my 360<_<

I haven't bought a PC game for years. The only problem I had was that it sometimes took a little while to load but my laptop isn't the best for games.

I have tried them all the most they have done is got me to the second "slide" on the initial loading screen after choosing new game. I quick browse at the official forums should tell you how incredibly unstable this game is

Odds are the problem is with your computer, not the game. The vast majority of people who bought it had no problems. Are you getting an error box? Is there an error log?

Yes and my error is the same as no less than 5 other people on the first page of the bethesda forums I also posted DX logs on the official forums and was told that my machine should run it with no issues.

Also go check out the official site the game is ridiculously unstable, it is not just me. I assumed it was me until I actually researched the game.

What does the error say, exactly?

Oh, you're going by a hugely visited gamer forum and put your immediate reaction as benchmark for the stability of a game?

7950 GT, 2gb ram and a dual core not worth mentioning plays vanilla without any issues.

You thief, I will give you my Ripple of Evil... imagine if everyone just pirated it, all the game companies would go broke, leading to a world with no games!

Problem #1 : Fallout 3 crashing / Fallout 3 crash to desktop (ctd) | Fallout 3 crashing at the start of the game
Solution : (from Bethesda website)
1. Click Start
2. Click “All Programs” (or just Programs, depending on the version of Windows, whether they’re using “classic,” etc.)
3. Go to the ffdshow folder.
4. Click “Audio decoder configuration.”
5. In the left hand pane, click “Info & debug.” This is the second entry in the list.
6. In the right hand pane, near the bottom, find a check box labelled “Don’t use ffdshow in:”
7. Check that box, and in the text box underneath (it lights up when you check the check box), add “fallout3.exe” (don’t include the quotes). If there is already something in that box, put a semi-colon ( ; ) after what’s already there, and fallout3.exe after that. Do NOT use spaces, since ffdshow will think that’s part of the filename. A valid entry would be “explorer.exe;fallout3.exe” (without quotes).
8. Finally, click “Ok” and start Fallout 3.

My specs are better than that <_<

NVIDIA Geforce 8800 series, 2.4 ghz intel core 2 duo and 3 gig ram

@mastab: thanks but the codec fix was the firs thing I did.
