North India Declares Independence!

Citizens of New Delhi held a parade today to celebrate the peaceful independence of the Indian colonies from Slavorussian rule. The Indian National Assembly petitioned the Imperial government several weeks ago. A bill was drawn up in parliament recognizing the colony as a sovereign nation. The bill was widely accepted by His Majesty Justinian I, the Prime Minister and members of parliament. After a long and heated debate between the traditionalist and liberal members of parliament the bill finally came to a vote.
The Indian territories now have to deal the pros and the cons of independence. Slavorussia has already begun the process of withdrawing troops from the new country, expecting to withdraw 5,000 soldiers by the end of the week. Now the North Indian Defensive Force will be fully responsible for the defense of the new country. Slavorussia however will maintain a small military force in the country and will continue to operate several military air and naval bases.
The Colonial government will act as the interim government until successful elections can be held. Governor Nikov says “today is a bittersweet day for me and my family and those of my administration. We worked side by side with the people to secure independence, and the time has finally come.” The Governor says he will not be seeking election to public office, and will probably return to Slavorussia fallowing the transfer of power to a more permanent government.
