The Federal Government of Transvaal announced this afternoon that Annetjie van Matteus has been recalled to Pretoria for re-assignment.
Previously she had been the Transvaler ambassador to Amerikanisches Reich for about one month, however today Prime Minister Hendrik Strijdom put Ms. van Matteus in charge of the new Department of Atomic Research and will spearhead Projekt Vela which is scheduled for detonation on or before April 21, 2009.

We wish we could have gotten more of a heads up about this recall, but oh well. Who will you replace her with, since no one else in the government speaks German?

The Foreign Ministry was caught on short notice about the her recall as well. We shall be assigning Mr. Josua Bezuidenhout as the new ambassador with the understanding that he shall undergo German lessons in your nation to bring his German communication skills up to a suitable level.

While the pick for the head of the department is questionable, congratulations are in order on your new nuclear program. We're working on a similar project over here. We have an abundance of uranium if you need some.
OOC: Planning on getting a Manhattan Project in a month or two.

Transvaal has made many decisions over it's history, some good, some bad. This is possibly the worst decision Transvaal could possibly have made. Not even the terrorists of DKT would have put a woman who should have been executed for treason many times in charge of a nuclear development program

It is no secret that Van Matteus longer than any other government figure has wanted to see Transvaal acquire the atom bomb. The fact that she may be leading the development team doesn't mean she would be in control of the buttons once activated (that responsibility would lay with with the Staatspresident).
Also, a few within the government suspect that this may be her last chance to redeem herself for all her previous mishaps in the past. Although no one will go on record saying this, a few are noticing a developing dictatorial strain in Prime Minister Strijdom's manner with dealing with some government officials. It is no secret that he detests Van Matteus, and may use her failure (if she does fail) as a means to discretely and covertly eliminate her. Permanently.
One nagging question that will detirmine the success or failure of Projekt Vela is exactly how and where will Transvaal get its uranium trade from and how will it be acquired without adversely disrupting its existing 8-bonus trade network?
