Earlier today President Firestorm of Boomtown released a short statement addressing the capture of three smugglers of opiates. Just last week three smugglers were captured at Boomtown International Airport by security officers and found to have in their possession nearly a kilo of herion divided among the three. President Firestorm stated, "Smugglers will not be tolerated and the full force of the law will be brought into play. Elements of this particular case are proving troubling due to the young age of two of the captured smugglers."
The three smugglers are a family of three who stated they were approached by two men during a lay over outside of the country and offered a large sum of money to hand carry three small packages through Boomtown's customs. The father, 43 years old, quickly agreed and placed two of the packages in his 12 year old son and 10 year old daughter's bags. With the new legislation already signed by President Firestorm he now faces dealing with the moral implications.
In his statement Firestorm stated, "These three citizens of The Republic broke the law. The law will be enforced and whatever sentences the court deems fit to impose will be carried out. However, given the young age of the children and their lack of understanding and knowledge of their actions being crimes I'm going to request that the charges be dismissed and I will be cautioning the Prosecutor's Office against such excessive zeal in the future." While the children go free the father isn't so fortunate. By his on statement the father implicates himself in the crimes of attempting to smuggle opiates into Boomtown.
President Firestorm commented on this by saying, "It pains me to break up a family in such a manner. However, justice must be done, but I fear a greater injustice be perpetuated. I plan to seek the counsel of Sargun of The Republic in this matter prior to formally deciding the fate of the father."

Esteemed Sir,
Last week three of your Citzens were captured attempting to smuggle opiates into my country. Full biographic details and scans of their passports are attached. You'll note that two of the captured are 10 years old and 12 years old and that they are the children of the 43 year old man who they were traveling with.
First let me assure you that both children are not being detained in our prison system. While yes some members of my security service displayed a bit to much zeal in having them transported in shackles they are not being held as prisoners at this time. Right now they are staying as guests in the home of General Kim Park and his wife Delores Park. Both are very loving people and both speak Nordic, hence the reason why they asked to have the children stay with them until this situation is sorted out.
While our laws call for the execution of opiate smugglers the children will not be charged with any crimes and are free to return to The Republic as soon as this can be expedited. I'm not keen on dumping them at your border unannounced. I'm hoping they have family who can take them in during this trying time. While I've determined that the children are to be returned as soon as possible the same can not be said of the father.
According to his own statement the father willingly agreed to accept a large cash payment to smuggle what he knew to be heroin into my country. I'm caught between my desire to not destroy a family and my desire to see justice be done. I'd like to hear your thoughts on this matter before making my final decision.
With Regards,
President Firestorm.
