Tanaiste Kelly and Emperor Ranather sat at a table facing the cameras, flaking them on either side were the Tahoan and Franzharian flag. The Tanaiste stood up

"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to this Foreign Affairs conference. I am pleased to announce that Emperor Ranather Rukia of Franzharia is present with us today. He has been in Tahoe since shortly after his government was overthrown. Any questions you have for him, you may ask now. Emperor, would you like to say something?"

'Please, let the man speak," said an unusually considerate reporter from Promised Land. "He can only answer one question at a time."

[Ranather]

To TRANSVAAL: "Though I feel a bit hurt personally, considering all the support I grew between us, I'll, for now, defer for the sake of stability."

To USNA: "My own nation, as it were, still exists in only one place, the Enclave of Novorossiysk."

[Shan Revan]

"Will you be making any attempt to reclaim Franzharia in the future?"

[Coursca]

A random reporter says, "How are efforts toward rebuilding, both in terms of buildings and in civil society, coming along?"

[Ranather]

To NABOO: "That is a question that will require many weeks of careful thought, soul searching, research and planning, to be answered fully and to satisfaction."

To WIGHTON: "I am not well aware of the current affairs of the state, I have been away for some time, though I assume Governor Thomasson, and Pretoria are working hard."

[King Penchuk]

A Proxian Broadcasting Corporation newsreporter raised his hand, "Will anyone from Tahoe be attending the coronation of Douglas Penchuk?"

[Ranather]

While Ranather sat waiting on the Tanaiste's response to the Proxian, his steely blue eyes were affixed to the papers before him. News reports mainly, from Transvaal and the Orient.

After hearing Kelly's response, the Emperor raised his hand for a moment of silence.

"Now, before we continue. I want to bring to your attention the small package that was given to you all as you entered. If you will now open that, you will find inside, copies of my recent transmissions to the Free State, detailing my plans to cooperate with them, not usurp them, etc.

Inside, you will also find a small disc. It contains several video clips. They are scenes from the day of my deposition, hacked or retrieved by my own covert agencies. I'd like to play one such clip now."

To the right a large vynal screen rolled down from the ceiling and the lights dimmed as the projector began to play.

[Two of the Loyal guards fall as a small grenade hits it's mark. They use this opportunity to split into two groups and make for the docks.]

[Several artillery batteries are firing as the two ships barely escape. Ranather's takes some damage, but escapes. The camera cuts out.]

The representative from Promised Land sat there, stunned. It was as if someone had taken a two-by-four and hit him upside the head with it.

He had figured the Emperor had been deposed, but he had not realized it had been such a violent coup.

Ranather looked the man dead in the eyes, and smiled.

"As I scan the faces, it is as I expected. Now you see how mad Haines was. Crazy. Plain and simple."

All the man could do was swallow and nod, agreeing with Ranather's assessment.

"You say you will not interfere with the current gopvernment, but still...considering the present state of affairs, is there anything you would do differently than what they are doing right now? What policies would you change, if you could?"
