American economist Paul Krugman won the 2008 Nobel prize for economics for bringing together analysis of trade patterns and where economic activity takes place, the prize committee said on Monday.

See, I told you he was a serious economist :awesome:

I really like Krugman, I read his blog and op-ed on the NY times pretty regularly. Hooray for 1.4 million dollars!

Sometimes I agree with him, sometime I wonder where economists get all their peyote, but it's an interesting choice for the award.

didn't you get the memo? According to the right wing, the nobel prize is worthless and only given to blowhards or terrorists.

Wait, it's been given to someone right wingers like? Oh, that's different. It's the most prestigious prize in the world again.

When did the right say this? I don't ever recall it being referred to as that, at least not by anyone moderate.

so you didn't pay attention to any of the coverage of Al Gore winning it, when a host of columnists were saying it was worthless because Arafat had won it?

Why do right wingers like him? Isn't he liberal and Keynesian?

You know, retract all my comments in this thread. I just realized I was confusing Paul Krugman with Charles Krauthammer.

I'm going to go and beat my head against a rock for a while.

Poor Paul Krugman.

Personally I'm not too happy with the man, but considering I just had a test on his book I'm a little biased.

I think Al Gore winning it was a bit of a joke because...well...it was the Nobel Peace Prize

It's okay, I've made the reverse mistake on some cases

He was making peace with the environment, man. With him, nature would have rebelled by now. It would be like The Happening... but scary.

It's not really a Nobel Prize if it's for economics.

It's worthless because Kissinger won it.

it's the The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel. This is really just splitting hairs

Yanno, upon looking up that Krauthammer guy, he seems half-way decent. Atleast on domestic policy.

Would you mind if I joined in with the "rocks-hitting-lam's-head" activities? :D

Anyway, well-deserved; Krugman is the only economist and NY Times columnist I can bear to listen to from time to time. I figured they'd wait but the financial industry collapse and the bailout have really been shining moments for him. Plus, he verbally *****-slapped Bill O'Reilly on C-Span. I think that's the real reason they're giving him Nobel.
