There is a god. And its name is Google.

I've been waiting for this for a while - is anybody else going to try and get their hands on one? Hopefully it'll destroy the iPhone.

Also, we Linux users will finally be able to get revenge on the people who laugh at us for using Linux - the phone's software is based off of it. :D

Case by case basis, most people can still get by running Windows 98.

Get by? You could get by without a GUI. But if you want the most out of your hardware and the best software, Linux is what you want.

In terms of operating systems, it's not size that counts, it's what you do with it. :P
Besides, smaller is better in this field.

More than 1/2 the American population doesn't know what linux is and could care less. It's open source OMG! So what, that is only good for programmers. I can't imagine how god awful linux was when it first was released and there was no software. Mastab you're no better than a Mac user.

That is why I'm glad I use Windows, because everyone markets to it and things are ripped off of all it's components (nowadays and for the most part) and all this gives me the right to not give a $%&@ about anyone else.

Anonymity =/= Bad.

Directly? Yes. Indirectly? No. It makes things easier for programmers so more and better programs are made. Everyone can enjoy that.

No worse than when Windows or Macintosh were first released.

Mastab you're no better than a Mac user.

That was uncalled for. Macs are crippled pieces of junk, Linux is the fastest developing and easiest to use operating system in the world.

Linux catches every advantage Windows gets and those it misses. Virtual workplaces? Remote screen viewing? Free software? These are much harder to get on Windows.

So you're telling me everything released by some programmer in his mom's basement is releasing such high grade material that everyone can enjoy. I can't imagine how many duplicate programs exist and just so much clutter and no clear cut winner.

I would argue that when Apple and Microsoft Released their OS's they gave them nice default software that you can get every time you install it.

If Linux is the easiest to use the why doesn't everyone use it? Bad marketing? That can't be it because if something is good enough word of mouth is all that is needed.

I have never had any trouble acquiring such resources, which are nice, but I seldom need them.

There are clear winners. Depending on which distro you use, you can get rated lists of different apps.

Not when they first came out. They both started with crude spreadsheet programs which their non-GUI ancestors had and word processors that couldn't really do anything because there were no laser printers. Not much else.

It's non-profit, it's harder to get, and it usually doesn't come with pre-made computers.

They are luxuries, but why not take every luxury you can get? My point was that, with Linux, they come on it and are well integrated with the OS itself.

They have made nothing exceptional since GMail. Google Desktop Search, anyone? Toolbar?

Most everything they release is rubbish. They're the new Microsoft.

Assuming that I can take Wikinews seriously despite the truth that most of the "facts" are most likely rumors, I'm gonna have to say that that phone looks horrible. Unless its features absolutely wow me, I'm going to put this in the pile with all of the other iPhone ripoffs.

I'm sure that when you purchase the Android and use it in front of someone with an iPhone, they'll feel vastly inferior to your much more advanced phone. The day is yours, good sir.

The contract on my Treo is up in December and nothing I have seen so far makes me rethink my desire to switch to IPhone (hi, I'm a Mac).

That being said.

Android is pretty cool. It won't sync with ITunes, ICal or Address Book out of the box, which Palm (well, not ITunes) and IPhone both do, and there is no Exchange support, but it seems leaps and bounds above a lot of the junks being sold as "smart phones." I like the idea of a full browser and hopefully Google makes Chrome-lite as sweet as Apple made Safari for IPhone. If they were smart they would encourage Firefox to come out with a browser for Android.

I predict within a week of Android's release we'll see a program that lets Android programs run on the IPhone, after all, IPhone is running Unix (striped down OSX) and Android is running Linux.
