I, for one, am appaled at this man, Micheal Savage. His claims about autistic children are utterly ridiculous. I know some autistic people (heck, I even am one), and they did not choose to be autistic. Savage must be insane or something to say things like this!

I tend to support people's right to say what they want. That said, I think this man is egregiously out of line. He should submit a public apology for insensitive and severely misinformed statements.

Autism used to be extremely rare but now it isn't. this is likely due to various chemical tailings of modern civilization as well as advances in medicine keeping defective kids alive more often. Savage is one of those CAPATILISM CAN DO NO WRONG! types, and so cannot accept the pollutants theory. So he blames the modern trend of crap parenting. A problem in itself for sure, but not really related to Autism. probably the reason for a lot of add diagnoses though.

I don't see why people are so surprised. This is the guy who said all Muslims should be deported because in his words "I'm sick of you," comments which drew criticism from virtually every religious organization on the planet. He's a typical reactionary bigot who just wants more attention. The ironic thing is that with each hate-filled comment more radio stations cancel his show so he's actually getting less attention.

My family contradicts your statement. My dad is very much a conservative and for a very long time, I was speech delayed and boderlining on autism, I am fine now, My dad is still a conservative and supports autism reasearch. Infact, my mom is a speech language teacher who works primarily with speech delayed and Autistic kids.

Also, I have never heard the theory of polluntants causing autism ever.

ADD/ADHD and Autism are entirely different. I have not heard of any over-diagnosed cases of autism and if they are, they are probaly rare.

Also, for those his "Overdiagnosis claims" simply look at his quote again.

Yanno, I'm going to defer to psychologists, pediatricians and other qualified medical professionals. You may work in medicine, but I have no idea what you do and regardless I doubt you have any qualification to say such a stupid thing.

I would be surprised that anyone could be this ignorant and tasteless... but since I've heard Savage before I just can't get there. No expectation is set too low when it comes to this guy.

There are diffrent "levels" of autism.

ADHD is easy to misdiagnosed, autism is not. Anyone with half a brain knows this.

Those quick to write off ADHD should remember that, while perhaps misdiagnosed sometimes, there are plenty of us who actually live with it and it is no walk in the park. I wasn't diagnosed until college because of the common gross misunderstandings of what ADHD is. It is truly a disability for some of us-- not just bad parenting or authority issues.
