Sometimes even when you’ve fought your best….
Posted by Wilson on September 16th, 2007 in the Robert Jordan's Blog category

It is with great sadness that I tell you that the Dragon is gone. RJ left us today at 2:45 PM. He fought a valiant fight against this most horrid disease. In the end, he left peacefully and in no pain. In the years he had fought this, he taught me much about living and about facing death. He never waivered in his faith, nor questioned our God’s timing. I could not possibly be more proud of anyone. I am eternally grateful for the time that I had with him on this earth and look forward to our reunion, though as I told him this afternoon, not yet. I love you bubba.

Our beloved Harriet was at his side through the entire fight and to the end. The last words from his mouth were to tell her that he loved her.

Thank each and everyone of you for your prayers and support through this ordeal. He knew you were there. Harriet reminded him today that she was very proud of the many lives he had touched through his work. We’ve all felt the love that you’ve been sending my brother/cousin. Please keep it coming as our Harriet could use the support.

Jason will be posting funeral arrangements.

My sincerest thanks.

Peace and Light be with each of you,

Wilson
Brother/Cousin

To Catalyst: Never, never loose faith. RJ did not. Harriet hasn’t. I haven’t. Going through what we have, our faith is only strengthened. Besides, if God didn’t exist, we would have never had Jim. We did. God does. Remember my Brother/Cousin, my friend, think of him fondly and glorify God’s name.

Editor’s Note:
The entire staff of Dragonmount.com would like to extend its most deepest sympathies to Robert Jordan’s family. He touched all of our lives in some way and we wish him the rest and peace he deserves. We will be posting information in the near future about where you can send condolences. Please check the News Section for these updates.

Lag is extremely high.

Let us all have a moment in silence in respect of the world's greatest authors and a man who has a fighting spirit that only few can match.

o/ Robert Jordan. Victory in death.

'Tis a sad day...

A great author passes on, quite possibly one of the best. I don't know of many who could manage hundreds of main or important characters over 15000+ pages, and not counting hordes of others. He will be missed.

A shame the fellow is dead. He was a great novelist.

And while it may sound heartless, @#$%. The book wasn't finished.

Buy the books and start reading now.

Also, I'm heart broken.

Robert Jordan was the main character in Hemmingway's For Whom the Bell Tolls. Not to sound insensitive, but I don't know who this guy is.

He wrote the Wheel of Time series.

I'll put it this way: I HATE the "Wheel of Time" series. Hate it. That said, it's sad to lose someone who's words could bring so much happiness to other people, even if for me it was at best a cure for insomnia.

In either case, best wishes to his family and fans.

The cliffhanger to end all cliffhangers.

A sad day indeed. :( I've never read his books, but I just looked them up and the basis for them seems great, so I think I'll start.

Did anyone else think this was about the For Whom the Bell Tolls character when they saw the title?

"Before his death, Jordan stated "I'm getting out notes, so if the worst actually happens, someone could finish A Memory of Light and have it end the way I want it to end." The decision to posthumously complete the book has been left to his wife Harriet and Tor Books president Tom Doherty."
The moar you know.

You've got to be F-ing kidding me.

Nearly 20 God damned years I've been waiting to see how this turns out. And he friggin dies within months of completing it?

I swear, this is proof that God does exist, and he hates me.

The final chapter of the final book has already been written, and according to Jordan was written before the series even started.

The final book was in it's final stages of completion before Jordan died.

The editors will finish the book (probably better than Jordan himself) and the series will end.

Topic is about death of great author, not about how "God hates you because now you can't finish teh books".

Several times Robert Jordan was compared with JRR Tolkien and given the novice or lesser position... This, I think, is absurd. After finishing and comparing the wheel of time and lord of the rings series, it is OBVIOUS Robert Jordan is the much higher power. Long live your legacy, Robert Jordan.

Victory in Death!
