A one-act play
Cast in order of appearance:
Sovyet Gelibolu
Comrade Craig
The Greatevilfish
CPGallagher
JustinG
Jackred
Arrnea
Kaiser Frederick II
Unnamed CNer
The scene opens on seven people seated onstage. The lights are low, so all the audience sees are the silhouettes of the seven, each sitting on a straight-backed chair. Four of the chairs are grouped Stage Left, three are grouped Stage Right. In the middle of the stage stands a large podium, up from which sticks a very prominent group of microphones. The backdrop is a plain orange-red, seeming almost maroon in the dim light.
The lights lift to show the scene, and the faces of the seated seven, in detail. One, Sovyet Gelibolu rises from his chair (it should be the fourth chair from Stage Left) and walks up to the podium. He checks the mics, and begins to speak.
Sovyet Gelibolu: Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. I'm glad to see so many people turn up to hear our little announcements. Pause. I'll try to keep this brief, as I'm sure you have more important alliances' announcements to attend. Pause. By now it is obvious to him that he will not get laughter or applause no matter how many times he pauses.
First, I'd like to comment on a small facet of the situation in the world today, a facet that nonetheless has great importance to us. It concerns an alliance with which we've had a long and firm friendship. This friendship began over five months ago, was ratified in a Mutual Defense Pact on January 24, 2008, and has only grown since. And though we may have our differences--
Kaiser Frederick II, who has been planted in the audience, rises from his seat and tries to speak.
Sovyet Gelibolu: no, Kaiser, for the last time we will not merge with you and become your Sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschlands--our bond is such that we have stuck and will stick by each other through the travails of the Cyberverse. It is in recognition of this bond that the Communist Party of Cybernations offers The German Empire congratulations on its recent diplomatic moves, and pledges its full and unreserved support to The German Empire should it encounter obstacles in the near or distant future. We have heard their case, and have come to the conclusion that the material conditions of the nationalist political milleau no longer warrant the continued existence of the portions of the Nordland Doctrine that The German Empire finds offensive.
We love our other allies as well, of course
There is one further announcement that I would like to make on behalf of the Party. We have recently concluded our elections for the Eighth Central Committee, which will guide the alliance over the May-June period. If you will turn to page 26 in your program you will see a list of the members of the Central Committee and their positions. I will also read out their names and positions to you, and they will indicate to you who they are.
Party Chairman: Sovyet Gelibolu. That's me.
Party Secretary: Comrade Craig.
Comrade Craig pulls out a bottle half-full of a clear liquid, swirls the liquid inside around once, and puts it back in his jacket with a wink and a smile.
Commissar for Foreign Affairs: The Greatevilfish.
The Greatevilfish has been typing on a PDA throughout the speech, and manages a quick wave before turning back to his device and the no-doubt interesting messages he's receiving.
Comrade General: CPGallagher.
CPGallagher stands, salutes, and sits again.
Commissar for Central Planning: JustinG.
JustinG stands, raises his arms in a gesture of welcoming and abundance, and pauses to adjust his seat to the perfect angle before sitting again.
Commissar for Recruitment: Jackred.
Jackred stands, jumps off the stage and into the orchestra, and drags the Unnamed CNer, another schill, onto the stage. He seats the Unnamed CNer in his chair and stands behind it with his hands on the back.
And last but not least, Commissar for the Census: Arrnea.
Arrnea, who has been wearing a look of puzzled concentration, suddenly bursts out "Seven!" He blushes, and hunches over in his seat for a few seconds.
Sovyet Gelibolu: Well, that's it. Thanks for coming, and don't forget to pick up your trash on the way out.
Lights fade to black. Curtain falls. Footlights come up to show that curtain is a monstrous CPCN flag made out of red and yellow velvet.
End.
EDIT: it did something weird to my commas.
