I was Reading a few days ago about the village in England that voted (Informally) and decided that it wanted to become Welsh.

Here are the Reasons i think they voted for it

  • Welsh Grandslam
  • Cardiff In FA Cup Final
  • Joe Galzaghe (lots of sports succes for wales in 2008)
  • Free Prescriptions
  • Free hospital Parking
  • 'Prettyness of Wales'

I, as a welshman do not want them to become Wales, and would rather them to stay English. But i don't think there's a better way than that to stick to fingers up to the Government and show them that devolution is necassary for England also.

I Think an English Parliament is only fair, considering they are the only home nation without one

What are you opinions on the story ? and also devolution as a whole.

The sooner such dumbass nationalism dies, the better. Yes, your country is very pretty and you like it. That doesn't mean there should be political parties devoted to d**k waving about it.

OK, Firstly i was advocating devolution for England there, ok? Then i was saying how succesful it's been in Wales. I didn't say the UK should break up, just that more local power is a good thing.

On the subject of Hospital parking, I was talking to a Welsh Doctor 3 weeks ago that said the free parking was messed up, with doctors and nurses taking all the spots. Attempts to prevent this lead to hospital staff simply wearing coats over their uniforms.

On the subject of devolution, I don't like devolved parliaments, but I do have some different idea's for UK governance, that I may post later tonight.

Wales is a Principality, We are a 'home nation' of the United Kingdom , we have our own National Assembly. So we can make small laws and little adjustments atm ( more home law making powers to come )

The National Assembly has given Wales stuff England hasn't got such as ...

  • Free parking in Hospitals
  • Free Prescriptions.
  • More pride (I THINK ANYWAY)
  • We introduced the smoking in public ban earlier than England.
  • FEW MORE THINGS 2

looks like a petrol forecourt to me

plus who wouldn't want free drugs? I'm betting if there wasnt any free drugs they wouldnt vote to be welsh.

by the way this was a survey done over the internet so you know how accurate that would be.

Welsh, those reasons you gave at the start are all really, really, stupid. It's to do with health and hospitals. Same as that little village near Scotland. Doesn't matter thogh, probably won't happen.

Welsh copying the Scots I see. If it isn't the English it's the Scots. At least for Berwick there is implications from moving from England to Scotland in all forms of society... England and Wales are practically governed by the same laws as each other, unlike Scotland which stand alone...

Only two of the reasons are correct. And there is nothing in Audlem. I'm amazed that 120 people in Audlem have access to electricity, never mind the Internet.

Firstly the thing outside of the Senedd is from the docks that were once in Cardiff, Which has now been replaced by a very attractive bay instead. I think it's a stunning building, you'd have to visit it to see how amazing it is, and you can actually go in and see the AMs debating and voting, welsh politics is lot more calm though, (no punch and judy politics and constant arguing).

I don't want them to become Wales, We have our own unique culture that they would simply not fit into.

Also they are the bonus points of living in Wales (Most health i know) We have all the stuff they have in England though aswell, I'd pick living here over most other places in the world. Welsh People are very friendly (Especially in the Valleys).
Please don't moan though at how you hate people who love their country. It realy annoys me , just because you don't love yours doesn't mean i'm not allowed to love mine.

2008 has been a great year for welsh sport.

Joe Kalzaghe
Wales Rugby Grand Slam
Cardiff in FA Cup Final
Swansea city playing brilliant
Football team actually won a few matches

There is a great sense of optimsm in Wales at the moment, not just with sport but with politics also. I'm wondering who will come out on top though in the council elections, I think that it'll be a good year for the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats

I don't hate people who love their 'country'. I just hate people who enjoy jingoistic rubbish like this.

Also, if you're going to boast about 'your' sportsmen (like you have personally had bugger all to do with their success), you might as well learn to spell Joe Calzaghe's name right.

Shut up !!!

And that name isn't a 'Welsh' name if you hadn't noticed. so :P

I never said i had anything to do with their success, all i am saying is a am proud of him as he's from Wales and he always fights for Wales.

You really, really are a grumpy person aren't you ?

and the whole 'country' thing ? would it make you happier if i said i am proud of my 'Principality' or of my Constituent country? happier now?

EDIT : Where are you from by the way ?

No one would want to join a country because of sporting success. It would be completely stupid. "I heard Brazil are favourites to win the World Cup again! Let's go join them so we can celebrate it too!"

Next we will be hearing N. Ireland want to unify with Ireland again because of Aiden McGeady winning the double

And, if you think about it, you can say it has been a great year for sport for all the home nations:

Scotland;

- Impressive results in European Football (Aberdeen 2 - 2 Bayern Munich, Rangers in the EURO Cup, Celtic in the Champions League).
- Scotland win the Calcutta Cup.
- A double over France in football and beating Ukraine.
- Colin Montgomery won something or other (I don't follow golf)
- Winning to host the Commonwealth Games.

England;
- 3 teams in the Semi-finals of the Champions League
- A team in the FA Cup final.
- Ricky Hatton continues to impress.
- Beating France in the rugby
- World Cup Rugby Final (if you want to still count that as this year)

And I'm sure N Ireland have had success somewhere ... but the main point is, sporting success would not be a good reason at all to join a country.

Also remember, Calzaghe was born in England, and has an Italian father, so he is far from being 'born and bred a welshman'.
