So I have been happily sitting at 55k and change for my population for quite awhile and today all of a sudden there was an unexplained population boost to over 56k. So im not complaining but I also have no idea how it happened. I havent bought infra changed my trades or had any events so whats the deal?

Environment affects your population count.
Maybe your nation was within the out 55k, and a better GRL bumped it up past 56k.
