I love Russian Avant Garde made during the Soviet era. Especially the Kandinsky and Lissizky images below.
Wassily Kandinsky's Circles in a Circle

El Lissitzky's Beat the Whites With the Red Wedge
Posted Image

I also like Surrealism, particularly Salivdor Dali's Geopoliticus Child Watching the Birth of the New Man
Posted Image

And 'street art', or grafiti like Banksy's Flower Thrower

I like Alfons Mucha:

And anything Art Nouveau really. Particularly architecture and design.

Victor Horta

Art Deco too.

Tamara de Lempicka
Posted Image

The most famous examples of Art Deco architecture being these two I suppose:
The Empire State Building in the foreground and the Chrysler Building behind it.

There's more but I'll save it for another bandwidth killing post :awesome:

I actually tend to prefer modern commercial art compared to modern "fine art".

Then post some. There is no one type of art. It's very much a subjective thing.

I took Art History. As a result, I hate art but appreciate it very much. :P

I can't really find any folders of art on the computer right now, except for one particular folder with some of Shadow of the Colossus. Here're a few:

They are very much in the Impressionist tradition.

I wish I could draw out images in that fashion. When I was a kid, I was pretty good at expressing myself through art, and one of my friends and I used to compare our drawings with one another and compete with each other. He just kept getting better and better, and I stayed the same.

Now the guy's amazing. He draws in a rough but very appealing style, and his skill is quite amazing. Ever since we were kids he said he wanted to work for Pixar, and I think he'll make it no problem. The man's a genius.

...you better be trolling.

Renoir and Rodin are my timeless ace homies.

More contemporary artist pics are John Heartfield, Ray Johnston, that guy whom I can only remember as 'not George Harrison'. But his name is George and it the last name begins with an H, he does installations.

AWESOME TOPIC

I'm a huge fan of digital art, mainly, although there are certain pieces of drawn art that simply astound.

I mean to each their own, but that stuff's like Garfield except with less shapes and bad draftsmanship. If you look at the DeviantArt page you can see her stuff from 04 and look how she hasn't progressed a single iota from that point. You might as well post Snapesnogger.

How does it challenge? How does it engage? How is it art?

And who are you to determine what art is? The more serious art I view it as my own feelings expressed in drawings that make me feel secure. And the more comical ones are a relief on a bad day.

It gives me feelings other than "WTF?" and "Life is crap". It gives me actual freaking feelings and touches me. Thats why it's freaking art. I'm sorry if it doesn't fit in with the amazing works done by more famous artists, but damn it that does not mean it is not art.

I recommend you think again about criticizing so strictly something that is about free expression <_<

I have to agree. I don't find them either humorous or entertaining. But hey, it's an art thread so you can post it if you like.

Demetrus - There is some really good digital art out there. DeviantArt.com is the ultimate site. I love the jester pic.
