Maybe this is the way to teach the 10 Commandments today! Maybe then people would 'get it'.

TennesseeTen Commandments

Some people inTennessee have trouble with all those 'shall's' and 'shall not's' in the Ten co mmandments. Folks just aren't used to talking in those terms.. So, some folks in middle Tennessee got together and translated the 'King James' into 'Jackson County' language..... no joke, read on...

The Hillbilly's Ten Commandments (posted on the wall at Cross Trails Church in Gainesboro, TN)

(1) Just one God
(2) Put nothin' before God
(3) Watch yer mouth
(4) Git yourself to Sunday meetin'
(5) Honor yer Ma & Pa
(6) No killin'
(7) No foolin' around with another fellow's gal
(8) Don't take what ain't yers
(9) No tellin' tales or gossipin'
(10) Don't be hankerin' for yer buddy's stuff

Now that's kinda plain an' simple, don't ya think? Y'all have a nice day.

No joke, just putting the 10 commandments into the language of the people.
Why do you think it was a joke?

There isn't any 'Don't sleep with direct relatives' command, I see.

I do, my cousins are from South Carolina. I'm pretty sure they don't know the Civil War is over down there, but other then that it's just a hotter and a bit less developed version of the North.

These are the actual 10 commandments (for those unfamiliar with them) put into a southern dialect.

I approve.

Yes. The fools that needed to "translate" the 10 Commandments (11 in fact). You don't know my position on Red Necks/Hillbillies do you?

"FILTH"."FOOLS"? Not exactly a very Christioan attitude wouldnt you say? Whatever happened to Love thy fellow man?

And as for condemning those who needed to have it "translated" How is your Latin and Greek ..Would you be reading it if they hadnt translated it into English?

Normally, I stay out of the religious discussions, but this needs to be said. There is a difference between translating a text from one language and dumbing it down for those that lack the mental capacity to understand their own language.

And does the lack of mental capacity or education lessen them in the eyes of their God? Are they any less of a Christian than someone more educated? I think that anything that can bring them closer to their Deity should be welcomed. When you speak to a child do you speak to him as a college graduate or do you "dumb it dowm" so they can understand the message?

Are you suggesting that we should treat all Tennesseans as children?

I am dismayed at your lack of understanding of the American culture in general and of the South. I am sure you made the remarks as an attempt at humour but this type of humour is hurtful. Stereotypes are simply ways for those who dont understand a culture to feel superiorto them
What would your opinion of me be if I said that all them Aussies are nothing but beer swilling hooligans ?(I in no way believe that but you can see my point)
