Sometimes they assemble alongside one another and then when a female appears, snap into a frantic dance to show off their plumes. The winner then mates with all the alliances in the neighbourhood. While not obligated to offer support, in the event that one of the signatories is attacked by another party, the other signatory is encouraged to provide military, financial and diplomatic assistance as requested. He may have learned how to control his environment, how to pass on information from one generation to another, but if an alliance were to disappear, for whatever reason, it is doubtless that somewhere some small, unobtrusive creature would, with a spurt of evolution, take his place.
