UPDATE: As of 12:28 AM US Eastern Time January 31st, we have just hit $1,125. We opened this drive about 5 and a half hours ago. As a result of this amazing turnout, I will be upping the goal from $1,500 to $2,500
Recently MK member maguko suggested that we start a donation drive for a charity within MK. So I put up a topic on the MK private forums to gauge interest in such an event. The results were overwhelmingly positive and we began a vote for an international charity to donate to, looking at how effective each one would be. We, with the help of Archon picked the excellent charity, Doctors Without Borders. If you are unfamiliar with Doctors Without Borders, please read down further in the post for information on the charity (Including their mission statement and facts and figures about it). We felt it was the best suited to an international community like Cyber Nations, as well as being a worthy cause.
As this idea was quickly turning into a reality, it was suggested that we invite the remainder of the Cyber Nations Community to join us. As a larger community of people, we can have a greater impact on the welfare of other peoples lives. We have contacted many alliances about this idea, with the overwhelming majority of them expressing interest in the idea.
We've also decided to make this a fun event by turning it into a friendly competition and see which alliance can donate the most money for the next 30/31 days. Starting today and ending on March 1st 2012, we will tally the totals from each alliance and post the results. Feel free to continue donating all year because the real winner of this competition will be the people helped by Doctors Without Borders. We will also tally the grand total and recognize those who contributed the most.
The overall goal of The Grand Give is not to win a competition. As stated above, the real winners are the people who get the assistance they need. The goal is to raise money for an outstanding charity that helps people around the world. So please donate what you can to support this charity and give yourself that warm and gooey feeling you get when you do something nice for someone else.
