Lynneth
Advisor for Foreign Affairs, Clement Rohee, was the person chosen for this job. While it was his first major task involving another nation, it would hopefully be relatively easy, what with only a simple downgrading of the previous defensive pact to be discussed. Once in the conference room of the Capital Building, he found himself a seat. "Thank you for having me here, Commander... Serrano, was it?" He smiled at the military man. "Might I know about the specifics of the downgrade? Perhaps you have a new document prepared already?""
iKrolm
Once at the Capital Building, Celement Rohee would be met by President Melchoro Diokno. "It's a pleasure to meet you Mr. Rohee, and please allow me to welcome you to Selenarctos. "I hope the transition of government proceeds well in your home country; I'm sure you're very busy right now so I won't detain you for too long, I hope. As you no doubt know, Selenarctos and Ceylon have maintained a friendly and very beneficial relationship in the recent past. I hope this may continue, however Selenarctos and my government have pursued a West Pacific-centric foreign policy and I do not believe a treaty binding to South America would be in our best interests at this time." "Please consider a revision to the treaty my staff put together:"
A Pact of Nonaggression and Cooperation between Selenarctos and Guyana Preamble: In the spirit of mutual friendship and economic development, Selenarctos and the Republic of Guyana do hereby enter into the following agreement; Article I: Sovereignty and Non-Aggression Both signatory nations agree to respect the sovereign territory, waters and laws of the other. Furthermore, the signatories agree to settle disputes diplomatically, and resolve establish and maintain the communication channels necessary to do so. Article II: Non-Intervention Neither signatory shall seek to infringe upon the authority or sovereignty of the other, and both shall refrain from military actions against each other. Article III: Intelligence Signatories are encouraged to share intelligence related to each other's security and well being. Neither nation shall harbor fugitives from the other, nor assist criminal elements within or acting in opposition to the established government. Article IV: Trade Both signatories agree to a mutual reduction of tariffs and to enact measures to promote trade between each other. Neither signatory shall enact measures to unfairly restrict the trade or economic rights of the other nor impede the lawful passage of the other's goods, persons, or vessels. Article V: Sunset In the event that either signatory wish to withdraw from this agreement, it shall provide notice 65,536 minutes in advance. Signed,
Lynneth
Rohee read through the treaty, mostly finding it absolutely fine, though raising an eyebrow at the fifth article. "If you don't mind me asking, why exactly 65,536 minutes? Otherwise, the treaty looks to be good."
iKrolm
OOC: Haha, umm: the first treaty was 64 days so I chose another power of two and 65,536 minutes was too close 45 days to resist. IC: "I'm sure my staff deemed it a good idea; it can be changed if you would prefer a different cancellation period. "On another note, I am most curious at to hear how work on the Selenarctos Island 3 habitat is progressing."
Lynneth
OOC: Silly iKrolm IC: "I see. Well, I'd like to change it to just 45 days. No need for minutes. As for the habitat, I must confess that I have not been informed about any space-related matters. I only know that construction on all habitats had been paused while former Ceylon's forces were pacifying South America. If you'd like to know more, you'll have to contact the Office of Space." Lynneth
"Thank you very much." Rohee smiled, then left for the airport to return to Guyana after exchanging a few more pleasantries with Diokno. The meeting had been a success, in his eyes.
