Michael McBride
After the successful completion of Cup of Nations V, with the Cup's first ever Asian winner (Denmark won CoNI, Republic/Empire of York/Empire of Pravus Ingruo winning CoNII and CoNIII. CoNIV was abandoned because of host nation turmoil), the tournament once again looks to unite the world around the glory of sport during troubled times. Once again, the tournament is taking bids from nations other than the Empire of Pravus Ingruo to host the tournament. So far, the tournament has been hosted in Pravus Ingruo (North America x3), Germany (Europe), and the Empire of the Twelve Gods (Africa). Because of this, it is rumored that bids from Asia, South America, the Middle East, and Europe have the best chance of winning. It is thought that because of the turmoil that surrounded CoNIV, an African bid would need to be near perfect to even have a chance of winning. North American nations are free to apply as well, but officials in AFIS have expressed a want to expand the tournament beyond the borders of North America. The Empire of Pravus Ingruo will not apply, but would instead serve as an emergency location should no suitable bids be put forward/there was again turmoil in the host nation during the Cup. To apply for a bid as a host nation, nations MUST post ALL of the following: Nation Name: Continent: National Team Rank: Stadium to Host the Finals (please post picture, name, and capacity): A detailed description of logistical, political, regional, and monetary challenges the Cup would face if it were held in your nation: A detailed description of why, apart from all others, your nation is the best choice to host the Cup: Teams wishing to sign up for the Cup may do so with the following form: National Flag: Nation Name: National Team Nickname: Continent: Formation: Playing Style: Very Offensive/Offensive/Balanced/Defensive/Very Defensive Manager: 23 Man Roster (please bold starters and denote your captain. Please also list five penalty takers at the bottom): (OOC: Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES are real life players allowed for national teams. You'd be surprised how many people look at teams besides just me. Don't try and sneak one past us. Teams with real life players on the roster will be ignored.) Teams may post their kits (uniforms) if they so choose. Let the games begin! Current World Rankings: 1. MoG[Corp] OOC: Team strength will be determined on a number of factors. Once we have a final number of teams signed up, new teams will be added to the world rankings in the order they signed up. So the early bird gets the worm in this case, as the "worm" is a slightly higher initial ranking. This ranking, divided evenly from 5 stars to 1 star, top to bottom, will be a team's base number. Nations who participated in the last Cup of Nations will be assigned a bonus based on how often they RP'd in the last tournament. Teams who RP'd the most will receive up to a 1 star bonus. This will be in effect for this tournament as well, so RP will help your team. This is basically to encourage more participation. Finally, teams will each be assigned a random number 1 through 5 by a random number generator in the order they signed up. Any team who gets a 1 will lose 1 star, any team who gets a 2 will lose a half star, and team who gets a 3 will see no change, any team who gets a 4 will gain a half star, and any team who gets a 5 will gain a full star. This benefits the weaker teams much more than the stronger teams. Top tier teams can not go higher than a 5, so some will only be able to lose stars. I'll create an OOC thread for any questions. Please direct them there. Edited July 8, 2011 by Pravus Ingruo

The Cup of Nations is back, for its sixth go around. After last Cup’s disastrous run under the management of Paul Warren, the team underwent a complete makeover. How complete? Not a single player on this Cup’s squad was on the last squad. New manager Jean-Claude Lightfoot went with what his name suggests: quickness. And ladies and gentleman, this is a very, VERY fast team. Lightfoot has also reverted back to the formation that brought the Crimson Lions glory: their much vaunted 3-3-1-3. And he has the players to make it work. Youth is served in between the pipes, where projected starter Vito Marchionni is just the tender age of 23. However, Marchionni has been stellar as the gatekeeper for the Syracuse Salty Dogs, so his youth doesn’t seem to be a problem. While Simion Doroftei is the backup keeper in case of injury to Marchionni, FC New York prodigy Antonello Codognola could be brought in ahead of him. Codognola, or C-Dog as his teammates call him, has shown a unique penchant for stopping breakaways. On the back line, Lightfoot had a definite strategy. Too many times, Crimson Lion defenders were caught out of position or rattled in Warren’s scheme, allowing many late goals that prevented wins or attributed to heartbreaking losses. The Syracuse Salty Dogs provide the entirety of Lightfoot’s starting back line, and Raleigh United makes up the backups. Fred Bramwell and Colm Rosslare both provide experience and a cool head at the back line. Bramwell will anchor the line’s center, while Rosslare and youngster Eamonn Yeats will prowl the wings. Both outside backs provide a good combo of quickness and endurance that should help move the ball up to the midfielders and forwards well. Yeats has been described as skittish at times, however, and Jebidiah Brock of Raleigh United stands waiting in the wings should the young defenseman falter. The other backups are no slouches either. Charles Herbert and Ronald Jolley both have a knack for scoring, and Herbert has been described as a “brute” on numerous occasions for his toughness, a moniker he embraces to no end. In the middle, Joey Damon of Raleigh United anchors the line at Center Midfielder. Damon is one of the toughest players in the entire country, and will not allow the through balls that plagued the Crimson Lions so many times last Cup through as easily. Franklin Daniels of Syracuse and Aroldo Perra of FC New York flank Damon, both being the oldest players on the team. Despite their age, Daniels may very well be the best all around player on the team, and Perra’s work ethic remains unmatched. In a subtle piece of coaching savvy, Lightfoot has placed Perra on the same side as Yeats, surely in the hope that the veteran’s presence up front will calm the young defender. Perra is also one of the team’s freekick specialists, known for his beautiful curling volleys that are deadly from around 30 yards out. Rounding out the starters in the midfield is the attacking midfielder, 21 year old Luke Keane. The Syracuse middie is described as perhaps the headiest player on the team, a real student of the game. His job will not be so much to score, but instead to distribute the ball to the three dangerous forwards up front. Behind them is Peyton Gould, oft-injured but feared for his tremendous shot power, Finlay Keenan, Rori Hutchinson, who seems like he has ice water in his veins and never misses the chance to smash a header into the back of the net, and the captain Lamar Powell, also a freekick specialist. Finally, up front. This is where the Crimson Lions should restore their dominance and return to glory. We already spoke of Keane’s role as attacking midfielder, and in front of him will be Kelly Dun Loaghaire, Niles McDonald, and Ugo Gamba. Dun Loadhaire is another one of those quick players who can run all day, and his spot on the left wing will be perfect for lobbing crosses into the penalty area. Ugo Gamba will man the right wing, a very solid all around player, but probably the least talented member of the starting front line. In the center as a pure striker is Niles McDonald, a 25 year old from Raleigh with a massive nose for the goal. Overall, this is a very solid squad, and exactly what the national team needed after the disastrous run in the last Cup. With an average age of just over 25 and a half, there is a good mix of youth and experience on the club. The one area of weakness that I can see with the team is if opponents are able to get the back behind Perra and work on Yeats. Perra’s age has slowed his speed somewhat, which could pose a liability for the young Yeats. Time, however, will certainly tell.

London alone has seven major clubs not including the Wembley and Twickenham Stadiums which boast a 90,000 and 82,000 fan capacity respectivly. Other major cities in England and Wales sport up to two or three major stadiums varying from 60,000 fan capacity to 80,000 fan capacity. Politically and Monetarily, England is best suited because England is the home of football, the the English in paticular over the Scots and Welsh breath football. It would be a massive stepping stone in the right direction for the UK as a whole if England could host the cup because it will stand to proove that we have moved on from the past of the Triumvirate Government and that we seek to repair such damage caused. Revenue brought in from hosting this event would boost local economies and provide funding for community development programs and will inspire Britains use to remain fit and active. In short, England has been prepared to host this competition for decades simply through the culture of the people and any challenges that arise, if any, will be dealt with swiftly and efficiently to avoid problems. A detailed description of why, apart from all others, your nation is the best choice to host the Cup: England is the home of football and its time that football came home. As previously mentioned it would be seen as a primary method of re-intergrating the UK to the international community in a positive and fruitful manner as a whole and raise Englands international image. Hosting the Cup in England would as also previously stated, inspire British youth across the nation to remain fit and active to avoid problems with health later in life and the revenue brought in from hosting such an event would work wonders for some of the less privilaged families in the country. We already have the infrastructure to host the Cup of Nations and HM Government has offered to pay for any expensives required aswell as the English Football Association. As of yet there was no league of any kind, merely informal, local clubs. Regardless, the realm would participate in the cup as it would not shurk the international stage. The Cup of Nations due to its special status in the Athenian Federation would be exempted from taxes and full security would be arranged by the Imperial Guard for teams and CoN officials. Politically the Athenian Federation is as stable as it gets, with a Council of Magistrates that has remained relatively unchanged for over 14 years and a generally moderate pattern in elections there would be no risks of a political crisis that could pose a threat to the cup. In general all political parties are in favor of hosting the Cup of Nations as it would increase international prestige and provide an economic boost. Permits required just like the taxes would be handed out faster than normal. Regionally the Athenian Federation is in an ideal position, the Mediterranean Sea being a main route for international shipping and perhaps the politically most united area in the world would be a perfect and safe location. Transport would be easier due to the airports and harbors, being on the European mainland it is easier for fans of a lot of nations in the Cup to reach the matches. A detailed description of why, apart from all others, your nation is the best choice to host the Cup: Athenian citizens love football, and they love the Cup of Nations, from the first cup to this one. This love has continued into the politics of the Athenian Federation where proposals for special measures taken to support the Cup are not uncommon. A lot of revenue from ticket sales by Athenians alone could already negate any investment required. This love can also be seen in the football teams the Athenian Federation has, with such giants as Real Madrid, Juventus, Internazionale, AC Milan, etc. Finally the Athenian Federation is in a stable area of the world, with no war in the Mediterranean for years and an extensive defensive network consisting of early warning and defensive systems would make any attack unlikely. Due to the country being surrounded by allied nations another safety barrier exists. Edited July 5, 2011 by Centurius

Both the coach and his assistant have mentioned the possibility of some surprises later on, as they announced plans to rotate players more often to ensure the starting eleven is fit regardless of which players are selected. Given the ages of some of the players on the Zargathian team however, it is expected that for many of them, this will be their last Cup appearance. The team itself models their manager's defensive focus playing a very defensive style while still having the flexibility to promote offense behind their star captain Eru Gomez. The entire offense runs through Eru's play which can be characterized by his size and strength being able to power his way through lanes and control the ball while his midfielders follow him into an attack. The center midfielders are particularly strong with Julian Navarra & Victor Sanchez providing speed and quickness to augment Eru on the attack; conversely the wings are very quick as well leading to the Castillos being a team with the capabilities to swarm an opposing offence and deny their ball movement in the center of the field playing a high-pressure defensive system that rewards them with many errant balls ending in their control. This is however the first time New Spain has fielded a national team to play on the world stage and do to this there are concerns their relative youth and lack of developed team chemistry may bite them when facing more senior teams in the tournament. Michael McBride
All applicant nations have been added. Sign-ups will remain open for another 24 hours for nations who wish to apply. If England does not confirm their application within that time frame, both their team and bid application will be tossed. All nations are still welcome to apply. Should we get anywhere between 17-31 nations, we will hold a small play-in tournament based where teams picked for it will be based off a random number generator. With an impressive amount of world championships under its wing, including one in recent history (Botha's World Championship), it easily earned its nickname. However, ever since that brilliant victory the team has been facing difficulties and has been unable to keep up with its formerly high standards. A detailed description of why, apart from all others, your nation is the best choice to host the Cup: Kingdom of Cochin would not be sending its football team to participate in this year's Cup of Nations as it is still undergoing rebuilding after the negative performance in last Cup of Nations. Thus we hope to be an unbiased host while the football passion in our people would also make it a very successful tournament. Several tax incentives would also be given to the tournament to better facilitate the Cup of Nations.
