~ BREAKING NEWS REPORT ~

Coming to you live from Northanholde HQ, it's C3NS - your source for all news Northanic!

(A news reporter - female, of Inuit ethnicity, somewhere in her late twenties - appears on screen. A serious look is upon her face as a banner flashes beneath her picture, saying, "Queen's Vessel Sinks Off Coast - Search Underway")

"Kathy Nanertak-MacDuncan here, with shocking news coming in just now. At 11:34 Northanic time, the official vessel of Her Majesty, Queen Cybil de Blanc, the Steel-Clad Gar, hit a wayward ice berg, tearing a hole in the side of the ship. A sudden blizzard had appeared over the ocean, and the navigational crew of the Gar, through fragmented radio calls, apparently had miscalculated the ship's path. Rescuers were dispatched to the last known location of the Gar, in a large ice field that was not too far off the Northanic eastern shore, close to the border of the Eggman Empire. The Queen was on the ship as part of her Royal Blessing, wishing the new Northanic cargo ships - which the Gar was the model for - well.

"As of the moment, a few bodies and some cargo has been recovered, but not much has been retrieved. Should the Queen...be pronounced dead, the Lady of Affairs Selena Rosario will take over as Crowned Ruler, since there are no heirs to the de Blanc name to take the throne. C3NS will be covering this story and more, with updates every half-hour on the search. Queen Cybil, crew of the Steel-Clad Gar - you are in our thoughts and prayers."

"Zargathia wishes to express its concern for Queen Cybil's safety, and hopes that she will return to Cyreniice Northan alive and well. Unfortunately we have no navy vessels capable of assisting in the search, though we could send some helicopters if you wish."

The Zargathian Hind-E's that had previously assisted in the reconstruction of Singapore were loaded on cargo planes, this time heading for the American continent. Knowing all too well the war that had nearly happened and caused the fall of the Dragon Empire at the time, a route was quickly plotted and Viniland and Tahoe were contacted well before the craft would enter their airspace.

In the message, the Zargathians would explain that the helicopters that were being transported would be there on request of Cyneriice Northan to assist in Search and Rescue operations. True to their words, the cargo planes carrying the helicopters would be flying under White Cross colors as opposed to the Zargathian one. They would be civilian models, unarmed with only a light Mig29 fighter escort that would break off before crossing into Viniland and Tahoe's territorial waters.

The route they would be taking -- assuming no objections were issued of course -- would take them past Selenarctos in between Midway and Hawaii and from there into Tahoe and the Viniland protectorate behind it. One refueling stop would need to be made on the American west coast however, which was the main reason for the timely airspace clearance requests.

"We thank Vedran for his support, and can appreciate that he cannot send aid; he has an empire of his own to rule over after all. To Michuraza and Disparu, you may assist if you wish."

Meanwhile, a makeshift air strip had been set up for the helicopters, stationed on the coast off which the Gar had sunk. A multitude of small boats could be seen combing the area around the wreckage, coming in with pieces of cargo and any bodies, and going out with supplies and medical personnel. So far, there had been no survivors found, what was supposedly the Gar found tipped on its side, somehow beached on the side of an iceberg. Only the very front end of it was above the water, and there was a gash in the boat over where its name would be painted.

In these circumstances time is crucial, because time is crucial decisive action is the only action, and no action is more decisive than unilateral action-!

Procinctia is as close to the Arctic as anyone, although it’s not our responsibility, assistance will be provided whether you request it or not. In an effort to locate an rescue Queen Cybil Procinctia has already chartered and deployed two C-130 aircraft from St. Lawrence Island to patrol the Bering Sea, Procinctian Arctic, and General North until either the Steel-Clad Gar or Queen Cybil is found. Two additional C-130 aircraft will carry military rescue units to begin operations in the Arctic ice, ground units will consist of Emilio Martinez (who volunteered for the assignment in accordance with Procinctia Armed Forces Article 1337 - Commander-and-Chief-of-Procinctia reserves the right to reinstate Emilio Martinez to active duty at any time for any purpose) and Generalissimo (Generalissimo of Procinctia), who both will search the vast Arctic wastelands independently.

That’s right, I’m broadcasting from somewhere in the Arctic ice right now before looking for Queen Cybil, and it’s significantly colder here than back home the Bering. . . ground operations will continue through next week, at least I’ll know tried. As far as I know I’m not in Cyneriice Northan’s territory, but it’s hard to say exactly where I am when Procinctia doesn’t have GPS technology, but it’s Arctic-ish and there’s ice without any land underfoot. My current plan is to walk in a spiral pattern until I find evidence of Queen Cybil.

Lady Selena of House Rosario - now Queen Selena of House Rosario - gently leafed through the papers documenting the efforts of the search. She was mostly silent, deep in thought, save for tsking at the actions of the Generalissimo of Procinctia. He was in Arctic waters; did he not realize how dangerous it was to wander around the pack ice, where someone could fall in and drown instantly, or be crushed between two things of ice?

There was a knock on the door. "Enter!" cried the Latino, watching quietly otherwise as Yuralria Torklurarpok, Lady-General of Cyneriice Northan, walked in. Beside her was a General of the Northanic Forces at Arms, General Gabrielle Rake. The two saluted their superior as Selena came to stand.

"What news?" asked the temporary queen. Yuralria motioned for Gabrielle to start speaking.

"The wreckage we found on that iceberg is definitely one of ours," said the female General. "But it's not the Steel-Clad Gar. It might have been a cargo ship that caught in the same storm as the Gar, though."

"Any sign of a body?" asked Selena, her face perfectly neutral despite the grim question. General Rake shook her head.

"No, nothing. Just the bodies we recovered from that boat we thought was the Gar. Those people haven't been dead for long, so that's why I'm assuming they got caught in the same storm."

"Any reason why the Queen would be so close to Eggman waters without prior permission or any reasons to visit?" asked Selena.

"We have no idea, Your Majesty," said the General. "All we can say at this point is that it was a massive failure on the navigational crew's part. They were trained very well, the top of their field; no doubt when they are found, there are going to be some serious questions on how the situation was handled."

"And you, Lady Torklurarpok," said Selena, shifting her focus on the Lady-General. "What can you tell me about this?"

"All communication logs point to a failure on their end. Every transmission we received indicated distress and a path that was severely off-course. The meteorologists say this was a freak storm the crew dealt with; the day's chances of a blizzard were only two percent. A perfectly clear day for sailing. No signs of any suspicious activity in the area, either; no unmarked ships, no people where they weren't supposed to be. In other words, business as usual. Besides, why would anyone purposely attack the Queen's vessel, when we have no enemies and we are a nation of peace?"

"Jealousy over our position on the Northwest Passage is one," said Selena, furrowing her eyebrows. "And Tintagylists are another."

"Tintagylists?" said Lady-General incredulously. General Rake blinked in surprised, stunned by such an accusation. "What do they have to do with anything?"

"The press has constantly compared Queen Cybil to the Lady Protector, Sarah Tintagyl, of the Old Hansa," said Selena. "If our Queen was not missing, she would have sent her blessing to the nation already, and we'd know it was reborn. Otherwise, an extremist Tintagylist might assume that the country is trying to 'take' Miss Tintagyl's position in history as its own, and want to 'fight back'. You have heard of the cult in Australia, have you not?"

Valeria Sangral put down a china cup on its saucer as she looked out the window of the cafe in the Northan Capital. The snow drifted down from the sky softly and she couldn't help feeling chilled even being inside, Valeria was an Australian native she never cared much for the cold northern weather and had opposed Hannah sending her to Northan on a secret mission to investigate the sudden disappearance of the Northan Queen. One of the main reasons that she had been against placing any Hanseatic aid or more so risking Lillians for a mission outside of Hanseatic influence was that a foreign leader was no concern of theirs. The problem stemmed however that there was the possibility of the 'Tintagylist' Cult, which had been active in Southern Hanseatic Australia, having something to do with the Queen's disappearance. Hanseatic reputation had already been ruined, many of their old allies turning away from any government not led by Tintagyl herself, giving the Hanseatics the feeling that it had been only an alliance based on beauty, holding no such national or diplomatic merit. Anything that could further damage Hanseatic diplomacy abroad had to be contained, in addition gaining new allies traditionally out of the Hanseatic web of influence. So, it had been after a long audience with Lady Hannah that Valeria had been thrown onto a commercial jet towards Cyneriice Northan. Valeria couldn't help but joke that when she came back she might very well be more powerful than Hannah ever could be, though the jet had landed safe and sound in the capital.

Northanholde was a small city, on some six thousand people spread about the town, which would make blending in much harder. Valeria didn't have the features that many of her Hanseatic sisters had, she had golden blonde hair with a light bronze complexion across her body, the perfect mix of Finnish and Welsh blood, the blood future of the Hanseatic nation. After arriving, she settled herself in a small inn off in the corner of town and finding herself severely under packed immediately hit up the town merchandise stores, feeling much more comfortable in mimicking the garb worn by Northan aristocrats, anyway so she wouldn't be portrayed as a foreigner.

As she finished her cup of tea at the cafe, Valeria placed a few Hanseatic marks on the table as payment and as a tip for her waitress before heading off towards the government complex near the center of town. Here, the genius of Lady Hannah shining through, the Captain of the Lillian Guards also functioning as the Commonwealth's Foreign Minister, it made Valeria a truly dangerous woman, while being extremely influential. When she entered the complex, the guards that asked for identification would receive it of course, she was the foreign minister of the Commonwealth here to bring a personal message from the Potentate to the new Queen in regards to the recent disappearance. After a bit of exploring once inside, she was able to near the quarters of the new queen, Selena of the House of Rosario. The door to the office had been left open as the woman moved closer to hear what the ruler and her generals were talking about.

"Jealousy over our position on the Northwest Passage is one and Tintagylists are another." Said the Queen.

"Tintagylists? What do they have to do with anything?" Said the female general.

"The press has constantly compared Queen Cybil to the Lady Protector, Sarah Tintagyl, of the Old Hansa," said the Queen.

"Yes, the Cult is something none of us Hanseatics are proud that it exists." Said Valeria walking into the the Queen's Quarters. "They are nothing but murderous traitors and go along bastardizing the good name of Lady Tintagyl." She opened her coat a bit to allow herself to breath and bowed slightly. "My name is Valeria Sangral, I am the Hanseatic Foreign Minister, in addition, I have another purpose here besides bringing Hanseatic sorrows to what has happened to Queen Cybill." A beautiful saber with a gold hilt was attached to her belt. "I am also Commander of the Her Excellency's Lillian Guard, the elite detachment of Hanseatic soldiers. Queen Cybill is an excellent example of what this world needs right now and while the Hansa may not continue to embrace Pure Tintagylism, no country should be bashed for trying to recreate the past, especially for as successful as your country has." She took out her saber and pointed the hilt towards the Queen. "I offer my services to help in any way to find Her Majesty. The Hansa will always help those on the road to peace, even if it means killing a few to reach it."

"Yes, the Cult is something none of us Hanseatics are proud that it exists."

Everyone in the room stiffened, a hand from each person flying to the hilt of a short sword, which all Northanic troops wore as standard equipment. Selena kept her eyes glued to the figure which walked through the door, not bothering to tell Yuralria and Gabrielle to stand down until the stranger introduced herself. With a sigh shared by all three, the trio of important figures relaxed, and Selena spoke.

"A pleasure to meet you, Miss Sangral," said Selena with a kindly smile, for her lost Queen always gave the same to foreign visitors. "I apologize for seeming so tense; as you well know, circumstances are not the best for Cyneriice Northan."

When Valeria explained her reasons for being there, the three's eyebrows went up in surprise. The New Hansa seemed to already be following in the footsteps of the old; it was said Sarah Tintagyl always hammered the need to help others into her people. Selena was glad that such lessons had remained in the hearts and minds of her people.

"I send my greatest thanks to the Hansa for this," said Selena. "I am touched by the kindness of your nation and your people's quest for peace. Hopefully, none will have to die as a result of our Queen's disappearance. May I introduce you to the Lady-General Yuralria Torklurarpok, and one of her right-hand generals, General Gabrielle Rake?"

"An honour, m'lady," said Yuralria, extending her hand for a firm, friendly handshake.

"Likewise, m'lady," said Gabrielle, doing the same. Both were smiling faintly, their minds too much on the grim matter at hand for anything else.

Valeria took their hands and smiled as she returned her saber to its sheath and walked forward into the council of leaders itself. "The tenseness is totally understandable and trust me, if you get to know me and my people, we're some of the tensest bunch around. Its what happens after you've been through the amount of internal and external strife that we have. As to no one dying from your Queen's disappearance, to correct your statement Your Majesty, no Northan will die and I will not die. However, as to the !@#$%^&* that stole your Queen, they will be slaughtered without quarter, especially if they turn out to be Tintagylists." Valeria growled to her side. "The traitorous scum that they are."

Looking back up at the three individuals, she bowed her head again. "What I must ask then, Lady Selena, General Torklurarpok, General Rake, what is the plan of attack here? Or are we just really looking for the proverbial needle in a haystack? I need to know any information you have on the queen, enemies, where she was when you lost contact with her. Anything, anything at all, from there, we can begin to search and then if you two." She said looking at the generals. "Or if you would prefer your soldiers, we can begin the hunt for Cybill. Every second is a danger to pass, but we are the hunters now."

"The needle in the haystack," said Selena with distaste. "We have a general area of where Queen Cybil's ship went down, but the radio signals are too scrambled for us to find the precise location on our maps."

Selena motioned for Yuralria to come forward, and the Lady-General did so. In one hand, the Lady-General held a map, which she placed down on Cybil's old desk, made of antique pine.

mq1pd.jpg

"This red circle," began Selena, "indicates the general area of where we last heard from our Queen. A lot of ground to cover, and treacherous with the amount of pack ice drifting around up there. From the messages we did manage to salvage, the crew was hit by a freak Arctic storm; the day's chances of bad weather were slim to none. A hole was torn in the side of the ship by an iceberg, and the crew was ordered to abandon ship. We picked up some scrambled screaming as well, mostly about how the Gar was sinking too fast. But then, there was this, which we haven't told the public about."

Pulling out a small tape recorder, Selena hit the Play button, motioning for Gabrielle to close the door.

"We (static) her much longer!"

"Someone's in the cargo hold - tell them to (static) there!"

"Sir, all crew have reported to be out of the cargo hold!"

There was much static, and inaudible voices. Then....

"What the (static)?!"

- And silence.

The nation of Helzan, considering its close location, shall be sending out search and rescue aircraft to comb the waters for any sign of life boats or wreckage. The number of aircraft we possess for such situations means we shoukd be able to cover the full area in roughly two hours. We will also be sending out Naval torpedo boats to search by sea.

Valeria looked down at the map as the radio recording was shut off, closing her eyes she sighed and traced her finger around the circle. "Well, if this is our only information we have no clue whether she is alive or dead. Though if the recording plays true, something else was on that boat and if someone or something else was on that boat there is a good chance that this was definitely not just a mishap at sea. However, if we're going to do anything we need to get back out to where the boat may have sunk and any possible routes that..." She paused. "If they're on a sinking ship, its not like they took her on a surprise submarine and disappeared, they had to have escaped on a lifeboat, which means that they couldn't have gotten that far away from the abandoned crew or even that chance that the sailors of the Gar may have been in on this." Looking up, Valeria's bright green eyes met Selena's own.

"Your Highness, I need a patrol boat, anything to get me around that circle. A yacht would be excellent, something quick. In addition, I need the Gar's log, if you have it of anyone that was on board that boat and their histories. If someone could investigate that a bit for me, I would be appreciative we need to know if any of these people are foreigners or if they've had any past transgressions with the state. After that, we need to head out towards the wreckage and see what we can find." The Hanseatic turned to the two Northan Generals. "I don't mean to command those who are above me and so I move with Your Excellencies' permission, though I would be humbled for you to accompany me on the search and to you Your Highness, only with permission do I request these things. But I believe they will be necessary for us to locate the Queen." Valeria said with a bow. "I am at your service."

"None of these men were foreigners," said Selena. "All of them lived upon Baffin from its days as a protectorate. We will give you the log to review as well, but I assure you that all were well and guilt-free. No drug problems, no offenses, no nothing. We made sure that no one who would be able to hurt the Queen was on that ship. Although...."

Selena's hand touched her chin as she descended into thought.

"...Although, I did find it strange that, before her departure, she was insistent on going alone. As Lady of Affairs, not only do I tend to her at will, I am also her personal bodyguard. Alas, my duties may be excused if the Queen demands it."

"Are you saying, Queen Selena," said Yuralria, "that you think Cybil might have known something, and she didn't want you to be there because of it?"

There was silence from Selena for several moments. Finally, she looked up at everyone, and sighed.

"If she did..." said Selena, "she didn't show it. I mean, the Queen has been quite stressed lately, and has had a bit of trouble sleeping, but the medical representative on the council assured her and I she was fine. And if she was troubled by something, can we blame her? She's only nineteen years old, and she's ruling an entire country, with little experience in politics and going on nothing but a dream. All her life, she was raised in the Far North, never growing up with as much luxury or material troubles as others did. To her, she lived a life of peace. She only wants that for the world. There should be no reason for a woman with such good intentions to have any enemies."

"But can one so young keep up with the stress?" said Gabrielle. The eyes of Yuralria and Selena went to her. "Maybe the Queen didn't want the work load any more. Maybe this is all just some sort of plan for her to get away."

"General Rake, cease your accusations! You can't possibly be thinking of Queen Cybil as the type to...to...to run away!" cried Yuralria.

"Or kill herself," said Gabrielle. "Even the greatest of world leaders have done it."

Gabrielle's little addition to her words sent a shocking quiet throughout the office. Cybil de Blanc, the woman of her people, throwing her life away so easily? It was downright unthinkable. She might have been young, but she was no coward, as many might stereotype such a peaceful ruler to be.

"Conspiracy theories aside," said Selena, a bit of a growl to her voice, "I agree with Miss Sangral that something might have been on that ship. What of the reports of that second wreckage, beached upon the iceberg, Lady-General Torklurarpok?"

The question snapped Torklurarpok out of her daze. "They're right here, Your Majesty," said the woman, pulling a simple folder out from beneath her arm, which was laid on the desk before Selena. "All casualties so far, with the name on the side gone. It appears that something hit the front of the ship, cutting a gash through its name, and that it tipped onto the side of the iceberg when it took on too much water on one side. So far, it has been identified as one of the new cargo ships, and there have been no survivors found."

"Were there any cargo ships near the Gar at the time being?"

"Yes. Two of them, actually. We lost contact with them just before we got a distress signal from the Gar. Both ships' crews check out clean as well. Strange, though, that we wouldn't get a signal from them when they had brand new radios."

"Exactly. It definitely makes things more suspicious. Perhaps something cut the radios, somehow, and then got onto the Gar? Our technology is from the Cold War, after all. I imagine that, with so many advanced countries which are havens for the black market, someone could easily get their hands on something cheap enough to jam signals from an outdated radio."

A fleet of rescue boatds escorted by an icebreaker from the Disparuean Forces' Maritime Command, which were equipped with crews trained for Arctic weather, and half-a-dozen planes to take aerial photographs of the area were immediately dispatched into the area. To prevent Groenlandia and the Eggman Empire from being alarmed by a sudden movement of partially armed Disparuean ships, a clear message on the fleet's intent and purpose was sent long before the fleet had arrived in the area.

The Buckshorn Stealth Boat cruised along the water, as far as the world was concerned Buckshorn has never even been able to produce a tank yet. But the Buckshorn government constructed this stealth boat especially for raiding and pirate missions. On the stealth boat were about 60 soldiers all trained by foreign special forces. Their mission in this area was simple just to patrol the waters and take small ships and take hostages. None of the soldiers or crew members of the ship knew about the missing queen because quite simply they only listened to Buckshorn radio transmission channels. To listen to foreign radio channel's meant execution.

But when they heard the Disparuen plane above them every single soldier loaded up their AK-47's and immediatly went up onto the top deck of the ship. Manning the anti-aircraft guns getting ready for a fight till the end. But what they saw in the water made them even more curious it was a life jacket and a couple of feet away from that was a dead body in the sea.

The commander of the ship a man named Edvard Ludvic ordered the men to get the body and the life jacket out of the water and to examine them. The real purpose was to take any valuables on the dead body but the secondary purpose was to identify where the dead person came from and report it. The Stealth Boat of Buckshorn was gonna be open news now but Edvard did not care.

The body had no valuables on it except from the clothes which covered it, and out of respect edvard ordered the men to not take the clothes. But the interesting thing about the life Jacket was that it was property of the ship known as Gar.

Edvard went over to his radio down in the commanders cabin.

"Buckshorn base Alpha 3 come in" Edvard ordered.

"Alpha 3 hearing you loud and clear Edvard" the radio man replied.

"I am requesting permission to send out a signal to say that we have found a body in the water Alpha 3" Edvard said.

"....Permission granted Edvard"

Edvard through morse code had sent out a signal giving the stealth ships co-ordinates and what they had founf now all Edvard has to do was wait for a boat to come and pick the body up and take responsibillity.

Valeria was speechless. "Its truly amazing, your Queen, this Cybill, she sounds so much like Lady Sarah it is almost incomprehensible. Her young age, her desire of peace and being thrown to the wolves with only her advisors to guard her from the demons of this world. Truly amazing. However, as to her killing herself I find that highly unlikely. Though running away may not be." Then listening to the explanation on the radios, Valeria cocked her head. "Well if you are positive that those men on the cargo ships are clean then we'll have to assume that their radios were not able to make contact whether because of people on the cargo ships or someone on the Gar, but for something like this I'm afraid Your Excellencies, perhaps even those who are 'clean' could be involved."

She looked up at the council of three with a glare in her eyes. "But we must start moving now. Every second wasted here talking is a chance for Cybill to get further from our grasp and further into the grasp of our unknown enemy. As I said Your Highness." She turned to Selena. "All I need is a yacht, a small crew, communication devices, and a few weapons, just in case." Turning to the Generals, Valeria nodded. "You're both welcomed to come with me as well. But we must start moving quickly. Do I have your cooperation and Your Highness to we have these materials, if so I will head out immediately towards the sea."

"We don't have any yachts," said the woman, "but we've called back all our cargo ships. They won't be here for a bit, though, with the ice packs jamming the water ways this time of year. We'll have to use one of the patrol boats, or, if all else fails, a fishing boat."

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door behind the four. Selena focused her attention on said door, and said loudly, "Yes?"

"Report from General Joannes, Your Majesty!" barked the young voice from behind the door.

"Enter!" replied Selena. In stepped a young Major, male, with brown hair and bright green eyes, not unlike Valeria's. After he closed the door behind himself, he handed a piece of paper to Selena, which the temporary Queen gladly took, hoping it was news about Cybil. However, what she read gave her an irritated sigh, and she glared at the words written down.

"Great," she muttered. "Juuuuuust great."

"What is it?" asked Yuralria.

"It's that Generalissimo fellow, from Procinctia," replied Selena. "He equipped himself with no form of communication, purposely dropped off the radar, and got himself lost in the Arctic. His plane has crashed somewhere."

There was a collective groan from the two military officers, and a facepalm from General Rake. Selena sighed tiredly, about to toss the paper aside, but then a footnote at the bottom caught her attention.

Suspicious communication signals picked up, boat sighted by Disparuean plane. Approx. eighteen miles east by northeast off shore of Cyneriice Northan, in circle of last known contact with Queen.

"What the...?" muttered Selena, looking closely at the footnote. However, it wasn't for long, for she quickly snapped her fingers to get everyone's attention.

"We have suspicious activity in the circle of last known contact with the Queen!" snapped Selena. "Some sort of boat that's not cleared with us. You three, go to the Communications Room and check in with General Joannes; get out there as fast you can. Major?"

"Yes ma'am!" said the soldier, standing stiffly as he waited for the next order.

"Go to General Joannes and tell him to prepare a ship. Clear a miss Valeria Sangral to go with these two here - General Rake and the Lady-General herself. Tell all search parties to keep their eye on this; if this boat is suspicious, I don't want them to get away. Understood?"

"Yes, Your Majesty!" said all three of the Northanics in the room. The Major quickly ran back down to the Communications Room to give the news.

**********************

Within a few minutes of giving the orders from Queen Selena, all of the search parties would be given a signal about the suspicious boat in the area, and that it was to be of suspect.

One hundred and twenty six Dranaggan nomads have volunteered to search. Anyone wishing to transport them can land an aircraft or small ship at Port Dranagg to pick them up.

They should drastically increase the ability to find survivors, bodies, wreckage, and anything else that happens to be laying around that wasn't even being looked for.

They have the condition that they keep anything they find not related to the search of the missing queen.
