Athens - While Rebel Army forces are still on withdrawal the Provisional Government has already started setting up the nation, one of the first is a more controversial law. A strong movement has voiced favor for a Christian theocracy and banning all other religions, as a compromise the government has decided to make Christianity the official religion but allow all other, with the exception of one. The Imperial Dragon Cult has been banned from the nation meaning while cultists can enter the nation they are not allowed to practise their believes in a public enviroment. Any violation would cause arrest. This compromise has so far been well received and support for the provisional government has increased. In a second bill accepted today the elections of the People's Assembly has been set for the 1st of April.

Athens - In line with the new liberal policy and a petition filed by around 1 million people the Assembly of the People has today announced they will begin to restore ancient religious sights throughout the Athenian Federation, the restoration will start with temples within the city of Athens and slowly extend in each direction. It is expected that within a few years every temple or other important religious sight has been restored to their former glory. To keep it authentic the authorities will mostly use building styles that were common in the time.

Athens - Following a resolution passed almost unanimously within the Assembly of the People the Armed Forces of Athens have been renamed to their former name, namely the Hellenic Armed Forces. It is expected the Athenian population will appreciate this change due to the fact that the former name seemed limited to one city. The structure remains intact with the Hellenic Armed Forces consisting of the Hellenic Army, Hellenic Air Force and Hellenic Navy. The name of the branch in charge of the Strategic weapons remains Strategic Weapons Command. In honor of the renaming another 5 Destroyers have been christened and are currently patrolling the Aegean for any threats or piracy. The conscription of soldiers and constructions of ships continues on schedule.

Sofia - Today when on a visit to fully integrate the Bulgarian people into Athens a terrorist group assassinated Empress Catherine I of Greece while passing through the center of Sofia, those responsible managed to escape from the scene before the Imperial Guard could arrest them. The group known as the Followers of Asen have been causing trouble ever since the unification of the 4 unions into the Athenian Federation, recently support among the local populace has grown with claims that the leader of the group is a direct descendant of the ancient Asen dynasty that ruled the area a long time ago.

In response to his cowardly attack on the crown the President has announced a national day of mourning and has deployed 5,000 fully armed soldiers originating from Southern Greece to maintain order within the Union of Bulgaria. In a press statement the President said the following, "We will hunt down these cowards and those who help them and we will hang them within the walls of Athens. This will not go unpunished.". While the soldiers have impressed the local population tensions keep growing steadily and it is expected not much is needed for a civil war to commence. The Bulgarian Freedom Party has voiced their disapproval of the government response however the majority within the Assembly of the People have authorized special measures to be taken should they prove needed. The entire Federation has moved to a maximum combat readiness and all soldiers have been called to their stations.

War, for a short time it had united all factions active in the Federation. While the situation in Bulgaria wasn't clear yet only 20,000 soldiers were left to guard the area, all others were being redeployed. Soldiers from all Unions had been called upon and they were all going to heed the call. Within days 200,000 soldiers were mobilized and transfered to Athens for deployment, the navy had ordered the Second Fleet to move towards Gibraltar and the Americas. For obvious reasons the Hellenic Navy Chart would be kept classified as to not give the enemy an idea of what to expect. This would be made easier with the fact several designs the Navy used were quite stealthy including 2 Aircraft Carriers build upon being easier to hide the real size of to conventional systems. All carriers were filled with the F-1 Shadow to provide aerial support whenever needed. The entire fleet would eventually go to the east cost of North America most likely to reinforce the forces of the Northern Republic. Strategic Missile Command was ordered to prepare all weapons for deployment.

Athens - After months of talks between the leaders of the Bulgarian resistance and the Federal Government an arrangement has been made to end the civil war officially.

With a lot of cheering and happiness the Federal Act on Rights of States 2 has been signed by the Assembly of the People and the president. This new law allows states greater control on individual development and preservation of culture. It for example allows provinces to develop it's own trade and to some extent an individual economic policy. Furthermore the taxes to Athens will be limited and resources in provinces will be used for the local community more than for the Federal state. Finally it has been decided in this act no province will be allowed to secede from the Federation. For Bulgaria itself the Asen line has been elevated to a royal title. The heir to the dynasty will obtain the title of Duke or Duchess of Bulgaria which just as the Emperor title of the Federation holds no real power. Soldiers are expected to withdraw over the upcoming few days.

Athens - Ever since issues arose in the Dutch speaking areas the amount of dutch immigrants has steadily grown to around 500,000 at this moment in Athens alone. Even to the point of an entire area in Athens being called Little Amsterdam, today these people have formally signed up their new political party at the High Court of Athens. It is expected the foundation of the Party of the Dutch People in Athens will be approved in time for state elections to be held soon. The party has announced their goal is to represent their people in the Assembly of the People next national election.

This move has been greeted with positive reactions from all parties and the President herself who in a statement said the following "The Dutch are an important part of the Federation, it is the next step into full integration that they involve themselves in the politics of Athens". The party in question has informed the press that their political ideology will be generally left but will feature right elements too. Even though its name would suggest otherwise the political agenda includes a lot of international elements.

Defenses had been progressing in a stable pace, around a year had past since they were originally ordered and it started to take shape, the minefields at the borders had been placed and activated remotely. To prevent accidents signs and other warnings were placed along the border, maps issued would also show the border posts where foreigners could go through for safe passage. These border posts themselves were well defended, every one had 12 soldiers and several artillery emplacements, not to forget the 2 automated turrets aimed at the road all traffic had to go through. Coastal Defenses were going nicely too, the detection systems had been completed however the mines and railguns were still in early stages, only 5% of the entire coastline was defended by the weapons and only 2% of the Athenian waters had been filled with mines. The upcoming year would focus priority on these 2 elements. EMP Protection systems had been completed on the military installations that were already well protected however the government installations proved harder already.

For mobile defenses the general staff of the military would work out a plan using experts from all of the Federation, their goal was to have an effective doctrine by the end of the year using guerrilla tactics and other means to slow down an attack from the enemy on own soil. More specifics would be released to the Assembly over the next year.

OOC: Permission from people obtained where permission was needed.

IC:

During the wars and other issues in the Low Countries a lot of emigration had occurred to Athens, with more and more people coming the growth was increasing exponentially. The 600,000 became 1 million, which became 2 and eventually 4 million would be looking for jobs and homes in the Federation. In a nation used to having a low unemployment rate this would cause quite some issues. There however was nothing the government couldn't solve. First of all legislation was passed to limit the maximum hours a week someone could work to 36 from 42, it was expected this would create enough jobs to compensate for the increased demand. Furthermore as employers would be spending more money to keep up their staff taxes were lowered somewhat, this would be reflected through lower investments in culture and cuts on government costs. It was expected these economic hits could be compensated for within a year or 2, however there was another issue that would take longer to deal with. The cultural impact on the Athenians was huge, they had to get used to an entire new population living within their borders, the PDPA had achieved a lot but more reforms were needed and they were needed fast. One of these was the recognition of Dutch as a regional language, another one still up for vote was transmigration, getting a large group to move the underpopulated Albania and Macedonia where they could freely exercise their ways and customs. It was hoped this law could be passed reasonably soon as tensions in major cities as Athens and Sofia were rising between nationalist Athenians and immigrants of Dutch and German origin.

Athens - Alexander II of Greece and Angel 1 of Bulgaria, they had been visiting each other in private ever since the peace talks of the Civil War had begun and were married yesterday in the Mētrópolis officially merging the royal houses of Greece and Bulgaria into the new Royal House of the Athenian Federation. The couple has refused to comment so far however it has been announced that individually the 2 regions would still be independent and that an international event was planned for the near future.

The Hellenic Armed Forces were good in every way imaginable except one, the Special Operations. Over the last years there simply hadn't been time to form a well trained and equipped force to deal with unconventional warfare. This was about to change. From the entire Ground, Air and Naval Forces around 10,000 men were selected. They were the best in their profession, either with information technology, infiltration or just plain stamina. All of these men and women would be redeployed to Central Command West in Tirana for additional training. While foreign intelligence would show this redeployment what was about to happen would be hidden. In secret the Hellenic Special Operations Unit "Deathstalkers" commonly just named Deathstalkers would be formed. Luckily for the staff previous training would make it not needed to go over the basics again. Something that could easily save years of the total program. Even within the Deathstalkers several layers of skill would be formed. The top tier being the elite of the nation, these would be around 15 men and women tasked with the more darker operations of Presidential Security. They were to effectively destroy any threat to the life of the President domestic or abroad. The other tiers would be all very effective as well however with each tier a bit less than the previous one. All would be tasked with one thing; Protecting the Athenian Federation against all threats at all costs.

Athens - While the day of the revolution is normally only filled with celebrations and joy this has changed this year. From an unknown source the Athens Times has obtained records and pictures of Emperor Alexander II with several known criminals and former warlords, in addition questionable requests from the Emperor's Office have been revealed in which dozens of automatic rifles have been ordered to remote villages in Macedonia. It is yet unknown what the intent of the Emperor was however when confronted with these facts he refused to give comments. The President has informed the Times that just as every citizen the Emperor would be investigated to find out the truth of these claims. With sanction from the Assembly of the People the Emperor and Empress have been put under house arrest for the time being. All press and other people are being prevented from getting within 500 meters of the palace by Federal Police and the Presidential Guard.

Athens - Each day more and more information regarding the Imperial Scandal arrives at the desk of the Athens Times. From recent sources it appears that the Emperor has not only been arranging weapon transfers to known criminal groups but has also collected enough weapons himself to maintain a small army. Using this evidence the Hellenic Army has retrieved over 2000 Automatic rifles, 1000 Semi-Automatic rifles, 3000 side arms and even several explosives. The House Arrest has been prolonged for an indefinite amount of time and voices within the Assembly of the People have called for legal actions to be taken against the Emperor. The President has refused to comment on the recent updates.

It was late at the headquarters of the Athenian Communist Party and Castor was probably the only one still inside, as opposition leader he had the difficult task of making sure the Socialists weren’t going to abuse the power they had. The ASA was already able to pass normal legislation but luckily they didn’t have the support to pass more extreme resolutions. As he looked at the clock on the wall he realized how late it actually was. Suddenly while he was working a noise could be heard in the hallway, Castor shut down the computer and walked to the door to see who was there at the time. The moment he left his office something hit him at the back of the head causing him to fall down unaware of whatever was going to happen. A few hours later he would wake up in a dark room with only 2 chairs and a table, due to the lack of any light he couldn’t even see if there was someone with him in the room nor could he see how big the room was.

“Hello mister Baros, I see you are awake. I will leave introductions behind, we just need your cooperation” A female voice said from the darkness as a small light was put on and she walked to the other chair. “Let me guess you’re from the Socialists. What do you want?”

The woman who was now in the chair smiled. “Now, now Castor why so edgy? Anyway, there will be 2 resolutions proposed to the Assembly. One will be proposed by the Athenian Socialist Alliance and the other by the Athenian Communist Party” she said as she passed a file, inside would be a proposal to amend the constitution to make the current President a President for life. “We expect you to propose this tomorrow and to vote in favor of the other proposal or we will meet again”

Castor laughed at the threat. “Miss, I’m an old man, whatever you plan to do to me I am sure I can handle it” he said throwing the file on the ground.
“You shouldn’t have done that” The woman took another file and opened it, there was enough light for Castor. “You have a cute granddaughter Castor, if you do not fear for your own life please think about your family. I heard your son-in-law has quite some debts with the wrong people. You either do what we told you or you will know”.

At that point 2 other men came in and hit Castor at the back of his head again. A few hours later he would wake up in his own bed, when he came downstairs he noticed it hadn’t been a dream with the file that was given to him on the table. As he opened it he saw the contents but realized that he had to chose between his country and his family.

“We apologize for interrupting your regular broadcasting however we have just received breaking news about 2 planned resolutions being put for the Assembly of the People, we are transferring to the Assembly Chambers in Athens”

Castor Baros, Opposition Leader of the ACP: “My fellow Assemblymen, ever since the foundation of the Athenian Federation there has been one person who has guided us to our security and the progression of our nation. This person is our President, Nikita Akhatova. Therefore I would like to propose Federal Resolution 20100518-A. An amendment to the constitution which will allow miss Akhatova to remain President until death.”

Hektor Asker, Speaker of the Assembly: “The vote on Federal Resolution 20100518-A will begin now, all Assemblymen in agreement vote on the left button, those against vote on the right button and those unsure on the center button”

“3847 votes in favor, 975 votes against, 178 abstains. The resolution has passed”

Damon Petros, Assembly Leader of the ASA: “Assemblymen, for the last few years we have made a lot of progress however there has always been one barrier, the lack of power with the executive. Therefore I propose Federal Resolution 20100518-B, the ability for the President to veto decisions by the Assembly, declare Martial Law, immunity from the law and the ability to suspend the Assembly in times of emergency.”

Hektor Asker, Speaker of the Assembly: “The vote on Federal Resolution 20100518-B will begin now, all Assemblymen in agreement vote on the left button, those against vote on the right button and those unsure on the center button”

“3845 votes in favor, 1005 votes against, 150 abstains. The resolution has passed”

“As you can see the Assembly has just voted in favor of making the President maintain her power for life and has granted her several times more power than before. It had been over a year since the house arrest was ordered and the isolation was effective, real world news didn’t get through, something had to be done. Something would be done. At dawn a black van parked in front of the Palace in Athens at the gates it was stopped by the Presidential Guard tasked with keeping unauthorized traffic out. One of the guards in a quite decorated uniformed walked towards the window of the driver while the other guards had aimed their rifle.

“Identity and purpose for your visit please, sir.” The guard said keeping his right hand on his sidearm.
“I am here on order from the Magistrate of Internal Affairs to deliver some items to the Emperor he may need” the driver said as he gave his identity card to the guard. It was a lame excuse and a sign the men hadn’t prepared but apparently it worked . The van was let through, once within the gates security was at a minimum. The 4 Royalist Forces in the back could easily handle them and get out safe with the Emperor and Empress. Once across the border they could safely board a ship and ensure the protection of the true rulers of the Federation. At least that was what they thought while they parked the van in front of the Palace and deployed. Within minutes they had reached the bedroom of the Royal Family. The Emperor had expected them however the Empress hadn’t and was reluctant to go with them at first, after a few minutes of convincing both were back in the van. The operation was a success as it would take them a while to find out they were gone. Again without problems the van left the gates. They weren’t even checked which was quite strange when looking at in retrospect. Something which they would be doing a lot in the near future. As soon as they had left the gates 2 cars would follow them, in addition 2 apaches would follow a few blocks away. The pursuit would go on unnoticed until the van had left the city border of Athens, at that point the Apaches and cars would come closer and the street in question was cut off. Under the threat of being destroyed the van stopped driving at which point a Chinook would drop 50 Marines to arrest everyone inside the van. The Emperor and Empress would be taken to Detention Facility Omega, a place where a lot of political prisoners were taken to. As soon as the news had reached the Office of the President an emergency broadcast on all Athenian television and radio channels was ordered.

---

“My people,

As you all know over a year ago controversies about the Emperor have rocked our country. I fear I have to make a difficult announcement today. We have secured proof confirming the rumors that the Emperor has been funding and providing arms for his own private army to obtain more power. In addition our proud and strong servicemen and women have intercepted an escape attempt. As we speak both the Emperor and Empress have been detained and are facing a trial for their crimes against the Federation. To successfully restore order and disarm the rebel group I hereby issue the following Executive Order. As of this moment the Athenian Federation will be placed under a state of Martial Law and the Parliament is suspended. In addition a dusk to dawn curfew will be in effect immediately, any violations of this curfew will result in the use of lethal force against the violators. I ask you all to be patient and sit this crisis out while we protect you against threats from within and outside of the Federation. Thank you.”

“Therefore I hereby initiate the motion to merge the Office of the President and the Office of the Empress and grant Nikita Akhatova the title of Empress as official successor to the throne of the Athenian Federation.”

It was dark outside, the emergency session of the Assembly had been going on for a long time. With the final line the faith of the Federation was decided and the greater plan fulfilled. As expected the motion passed without many objections, the coronation was to be held soon. As soon as the notice had arrived at the office of Nikita she took the phone with a secured line and called one of her most trusted Generals.

“Luka it is time, Operation: Loaded Gun is a go”

At those words hundreds of orders were send out, arrest warrants, curfews and even sentences. Thousands of Marines were deployed to assist in the arrests of around 700 people throughout the Federation; politicians, generals, press they would be taken to Athens for questioning. Due to the martial law and Anti-Rebel Act this meant they could be kept under arrest for a long time. There was some resistance as families saw their beloved taken away however the forces were experienced and trained in Counter-Insurgency procedures. By the early hours of the next day all were on transport, by the afternoon they would be processed. The prisons they were taken to weren’t bad at all, as common in Athenian prisons there were recreational facilities, individual cells and the cells weren’t small either. Due to the fact the now Empress controlled the state media reports of the arrests would be minimal combined with the current Cup of Nations people didn’t really care either. The Athenian Intelligence Agency would keep a close eye on those that could become a threat. Any form of communication from the families and friends of the arrested would be taken care of swiftly.

Currently the damage control units have found the bodies of 20 people of which 3 were children.

Only an hour after the attack a group in Bulgaria has claimed responsibility for the attack, the so called Slavic Independence Army has stated this is in response to the 'illegal arrest of the true Emperor and Empress of the Federation' in addition the group has claimed they 'will not stop until every Slavic citizen of the Federation has obtained their independence in their own state'. So far Athens has refused comment however Imperial Command has announced they will send support from the Army to assist the local authorities in Sparta with their search.

(One day before the French invasion)

Surprise, it was the only feeling she had had the entire day. The day before she was just doing her part in assisting with the mobilizations, she had just returned from the Asian and Antarctic theater. Even there was a surprise, only days before Imperial Command had announced they would not be redeployed for at least another year and all of a sudden they were returned home. Once home expecting they could visit their friends and families they saw they were still in a mobilized state. Nothing made sense at all. If she had known all would today she would not believe it herself. However it did happen, early in the morning an armored car arrived in front of the base, 4 men stepped out of it, these obviously weren’t common soldiers, wearing uniforms of the legendary Deathstalkers they walked inside towards the room where she was sleeping.

“Major Renée Picard?” The most decorated man asked.

“Yes?”she asked a bit dazed.

“Please dress up Major, we are her to take you to the Empress”

The answer was enough to fully wake her up, the Empress wanted to see her? A common Major. She knew her father was one of the closest advisors but she had not expected the Empress would even so much as know her name, she nodded as the men left the room. She quickly replaced her common uniform with her dress uniform, an audience with the most important person in the Federation deserved said courtesy. After a few minutes she walked outside and followed the men into the car.

“First of all Major, you are to avoid any mention of where we are taking you, revealing the location of the base is considered treason and in wartime punishable by death”

She didn’t care too much about his words, she wouldn’t tell anyway. Why would she? Though the secrecy did make her curious. There were rumors of a large bunker but no one knew where it was, luckily for her it wasn’t that far away from the base they were stationed on. As they arrived she was taken through the standard security measures at which point the guards left, once down she would go through the second phase. Until the millimeter wave scanner all went as expected.

“Major we have to make an image first for future referencing so this can take a bit longer, please avoid moving too much.”

The scanner made her feel uncomfortable but she understood the reason for having it.

“You’re good to go Major”

The Officer quickly verified the results which caused the door to open so she could go in, once inside she saw numerous people walking around, talking, discussing war plans. It was true, this was the home of the Imperial War Cabinet, but why did they need her? She was just a common officer, she had seen her share of wars but still. An aide in the room turned to her.

“Please follow me Major, the Empress is expecting you”

She followed the man without hesitation, just before entering the section reserved for the Empress she saw her father in talks with Generals. What a sight, a man that despised fighting talking to the military commanders of the Federation. As she entered the office of the Empress she immediately saluted and didn’t speak a word.

“Renée Picard, veteran of the Bulgarian Civil War, the Athens-FSA War and the Bore War, first woman and youngest recipient of the Order of Ares. Academy at 17, First Lieutenant at 22, Captain at 23 and Major at 24. Not to forget one of the sole survivors of the Sofia Defense Force in the War of Independence. Quite a record Major”

Nikita turned around.

“It is people like us who know how it is to fight for ones country, the mere right to exist as an independent nation. You saw those men our there? Three quarters of them have never seen a Battlefield, a quarter of them haven’t seen a real war at all. Athens needs people like you Renée, people who know how to handle a rifle and who know preserving life is important. You probably do not know of the tension brewing in Europe but matters are getting out of hand. I need someone I know will fight for her country. Your father will hate me for this but I am promoting you to Field Commander and grant you a seat at the Imperial War Cabinet. Now get some sleep while you still can. Tomorrow will be a very long day”

“Yes, your highness. Thank you for this chance”

She smiled as she left the office of the Empress, the aide was the first to congratulate her, he was also the one who would show her where her own quarters in the complex were. She knew she wouldn’t stay here for too long, Field Commander was a rank just above Colonel reserved for special circumstances so she expected she was going to serve at a frontline again. Did she mind? Not at all, her heart was with the common soldier. As she entered her quarters she saw that there already were 2 new uniforms, this one more decorated than her current one. She had always loved the white dress uniforms of the Hellenic Armed Forces, the gold decorations and the style of the uniform in general. It could be seen people put work in these. The common uniforms while lacking the gold were just as beautiful. After looking around she decided the Empress was probably right and she could use some rest.
