Clarification needed on GA mechanics

Hello,

 

I've recently fought a war with Fluens of murtibing: http://www.cybernations.net/nation_drill_display.asp?Nation_ID=325202

 

Even though he had a significant tech advantage over me, I had much more infra and therefore more troops. Despite this, he decided to run Ground Attacks even though I had near max troops at home. Predictably he lost these GAs...except it wasn't really a loss, as it was the kind of defeat where he ended up looting tech and land, and destroying infra. I only gained money in return.

 

Now, I know this happens every once in a while...except this time about 90% or more of his defeated GAs ended up like this (i think he just had one regular loss). It's as if he was guaranteed a win each and every time he ran a ground attack, no matter the odds, no matter the actual outcome. So in light of this, I would like to have some clarification please about how GA mechanics work, specifically, about the factors that lead to a defeat where the defeated party ends up with the spoils of war.

Attacking aggressively with really low odds against someone, you can still lose the attack and funds, but you have a chance of still doing damage.

 

I believe the worse your odds the higher the chance you have of getting that "underdog" damage.

Still, 8 out 9 loss ends up with him taking something anyway? This seems outright broken. And wasn't the underdog bonus toned down/removed a few years back?

I'd like an answer to the OP question as well. The nation I am sitting for is experiencing the same thing in nearly every defensive ground attack against murtibing.

This is late, but... in my experience, I think the odds of all damages achieving max effectiveness tend to increase proportionally with the size of your nation.

 

I think the rule is that underdogs have a chance to occur with any attack below 15%; but how often they occur most probably deoends on NS (tech/infra). At 4000 NS / 1k infra, I can attack with tiny odds every day for a month and never once get the underdog bonus. When I was 30k NS / 5k infra I got underdog maybe 50% of the time. But past 100,000 NS, you guys should expect to be seeing underdog damage with almost every low-odds attack. That is the whole point of underdog attacks - to allow weak nations to inflict some damage against strong nations even when they are losing a war.

But I have never had a large nation of my own, so the only way to test that theory is to record the results of your own low odds attacks. It's also possible admin has changed it since I last looked into it. Most of these mechanics were designed back when the super-tier was 10k NS.

This has happened to me twice, and I was on Murtibing end of this.

 

My odds were less than 10 percent both times, though I believe 15% is the threshhold for underdog victory.

 

One more thing. I once did attack with 13% odds and didn't get any damage done, so maybe underdog damage is not always guaranteed.
