When should I make the jump to tech buying?

Hello CN. I've been playing for a few years now, but often find myself having to re-roll for various reasons. (this is my 9th nation <_<)

This time though, my nation is growing steadily and nicely. I was wondering when should I begin to buy tech.

How much money do I need to become a tech buyer? Do I have enough infra to do so?

Here's my nation (I collect every 20 days also)

Before even considering the switch, you really want to start adding wonders.  Right now you have no wonders and I would say that you would want a minimum of 3 before you considered the switch.

Having tech and no Manhattan Project would be a disastrous choice, it puts you in a range where you will be a sever disadvantage; and depletes your money to do so.  This is really the key issue.

To a similarly extent however, having a Manhattan Project but not enough money to keep purchasing nukes and fighting can severely hamstring your alliance unless they know that they will be sending you constant aid in a war.  Often alliances prioritize 2-4 wonders before MP's for this reason, although its worth checking with your alliance.

Besides that general advice which would put you 3 months or so out, it is always worth paying attention to the political cycle in CN.  In a war you should definitely expect to lose a fair amount of tech, so switching to buying 1 month (or even 2) before a war is generally pretty inefficient, as it all disappears instantly and you would have been much better with the extra money from selling.  So, if you think a war might come, and are hearing rumors of one, it might make sense to wait until after the next war, and then switch right then, rebuild permitting.

Before you decide to become a tech buyer, buy a wonder first. Normally they'd say buy the SM first because its cheap which means you can buy it early and start your wonder clock early but you are pass this point - you are 84 days old. With the doubling of aid I'd guess you can buy an SM at 20-30 days old. Since you are past the earliest point to buy the SM, the next best thing is to skip the SM and go straight for the SSS then buy the SM next. An alternative, if you do not have the cash for either SM or SSS is to buy the FAC and just continue selling tech.

Another alternative when you've finally decided to buy tech for yourself is to save enough cash to buy it on your own without having to go through tech deals. Buy 1000 or 2000 tech straight up.

At about 4,999.99 infra (which you have).

That being said, I highly advise you buy a lot more wonders before even considering buying any more infra or switching to buying tech. At minimum, you should probably have at least most of the wonders I have. See here.

(Disaster Relief Agency, Federal Aid Commission, Interstate System, National Research Lab, Pentagon, Social Security System, Stock Market, [probably a Manhattan Project])

Overall, you want to have  good enough income that you can comfortably send out about 36 million (or maybe more) every 20 days.

In short: MOAR WONDERS!

(Aslo, your avatar made me laugh and that makes me feel bad.  )

I have way more than enough money to buy a wonder (I've got more than 120 million right now but won't say the exact amount because WCs are supposed to be kept secret).

Well then, what wonder should I get first?

Probably the Stock Market or Foreign Aid Commission.

Lol, this just shows how TTK is these days

There is no point in getting an FAC if your AA isn't going to send you aid, get a DRA, then an SSS. Try your hardest not to have the amount of wonders Fox Fire has after 700 days.

It seems to me that the Interstate System is more important than the Social Security System. Is 2% more taxes really that good for a nation my size?
