Australia

Australia was a strong pacific nation built around a solid core of ambitious, loyal and hard working citizens. These three traits had allowed the nation to grow into a singular massive industrialized titan where the lights never turned off and the factories were always running. Every want and need of the Australian people was met and provided for and the people always looked to the future.

The current ambitions of the people of Australia lay in becoming an even greater influence in the pacific and to achieve this aim they set their sights on the local island of Papua New Guinea. Knowing and not caring that the local population likely wouldn't wish to be forcefully assimilated into the Australian nation they prepared themselves for war.

As the factories and industrial complexes continued to produce military equipment, the training camps and bases of the Australian military would continue to train the military soldiers of the nation for the coming conflict. The Australian navy would set out to sea to carry out some final training exercises not far from the island of Papua new Guinea while the Australian air force would begin to carry out some simple but vital reconnaissance over flights of the target. The discovered information would be forwarded to the Australian military command to assist them in planning the attack.

In the meantime civilian life would continue as usual with little disruptions and vessels and planes would continue to be welcomed at Australia's ports and airports. The only real noticeable difference in civilian life was the occasional banner and poster showing the populace's support for the military.

From: King Gregory of Malta

To: Australia

"Dear Sirs,

We'd greatly love an opportunity to come visit your fine continent. Might you host an unofficial visit in which myself and a few others can travel around Australia to take in the sights?"

-King Gregory"

"Your highness,

Australia would be more than willing to host an unofficial visit form yourself and any other visitors for the purpose of sight seeing. Please be aware that the country is currently on a war footing so extra precautions should be taken but should not impede your visit in anyway. On board the Assault class vessel Endurance

Commander Cassandra Blair stood on the second level gangway of the hanger bay on the Endurance, her hands firmly on her hips she watched as the last of her recon soldiers assembled in parade formation before her. Once everyone was gathered in place, she keyed her throat mic so that she could speak loudly and clearly to them all. "Soldiers of the Wolf's Dragoons first recon force, you have been granted the honour of beginning the assault on the people of Papua New Guinea. You shall land on an undefended section of beach to our north before moving inland to report on enemy positions and engage targets of opportunity. That is all, dismissed".

Thirty minutes later, on approach to the assigned undefended beach

"Shit!!" swore sergeant Aden Drax as another armoured recon vehicle took a direct cannon round to the front and exploded showering the water and Drax's vehicle with debris. Cursing intelligence Drax ordered his gunner to target the concealed cannon bunker on the beach bluff and was rewarded a few sections later with a sizable explosion as his gunner walked a line of rounds straight on to it. The recon group had taken a few losses when the hidden defenses opened fire but quick reflexes and a little luck brought them the advantage and the sergeant was pleased to see that the majority of the group made it on to the beach itself.

Arriving on the beach shore line half of the armoured vehicle's lay down covering fire while the rest moved up towards the bluff, response fire from the defenders was light and those enemy positions that revealed themselves were swiftly destroyed. Only two more vehicles were lost to short range anti-tank missiles and as the bluff was secured the other half of the force advanced up off the shore line.

"Enemy infantry!" roared one of the gunners as a wave of defending infantry crested the bluff and charged straight at the recon group, the gunners responded instantly bringing their turrets around and firing on the enemy. Soldier after soldier was shredded by cannon fire but enough made it through to throw themselves at the front most recon vehicles. These vehicles disappeared in balls of flame as the infantry detonated explosive vests they wore under their fatigues.

"Fall back, don't let them close on you" ordered sergeant Drax, his own driver throwing their vehicle back hard as did the drivers of the surviving vehicles. This move created enough of a space to wipe out the last of the enemy infantry who all died to the last man. As the recon survivors gathered into a close defensive formation the sergeant surveyed the devastation before keying his radio and transmitting the results back to Commander Blair. Clearly the current plans would have to be changed.

With resistance turning out to be heavier than expected a change in tactics was called for, small teams of infiltrators were sent in ahead of the main force, which was just now beginning to land on the secured beaches. These teams of infiltrators would locate enemy positions and covertly inform their superiors who would then pass these locations on to the air force. The air force would then carry out a systematic bombardment of the targets using overwhelming force of munitions to ensure that they were destroyed. A few aircraft were lost to enemy air defenses but their loss was deemed acceptable as was the few teams of scouts that were lost. These attacks would continue as the landings were carried out to ensure the enemy was kept off balance.

Australian military teams have landed on a number of islands to the north of the country and in the ice bound Antarctica to the south, they have either secured the area from the locals or worked with them to keep the area safe. With this achieved military construction teams have be sent to each secured site to construct radar stations and listening posts along with basic ground and air defenses. This is done all in the name of keeping Australia safe.

The Australian war fleet left Australian waters shortly after sun rise, the combined vessels sailing in a protective convoy towards the west cutting through the waves at a decent speed. The fleet was made up of various classes of ships from destroyers to cruisers and including the two aircraft carriers that Australia possessed. Beneath the waves a small host of attack submarines helped to guard the fleet on its journey. Also travelling with the fleet was a number of assault landing ships all of which carried extensive numbers of soldiers, military vehicles or equipment on board.

Sailing towards the coastal waters of Somalia the twin carriers of the fleet quickly began to launch their compliment of aircraft, the sounds or roaring engines was quickly heard through out the fleet as the aircraft took to the skies where they formed into their separate squadrons before continuing on towards the coast of Somalia. The orders given to these pilots were quite simple the fighters were to provide close air support while the attack planes engaged ground targets.

Of course Somalia was little more than a pitiful third world country and posed very little threat to the Australian aircraft however, regardless of this fact the mission was to still be carried out at a highest degree of awareness. Any form of military base, encampment and staging area on the coast or near to the coast of Somalia would be targeted and eradicated. In addition civilian infrastructure that was deemed capable of supporting Somalia military units was also destroyed, thus resulting in the utter destruction of the Mogadishu international airport and numerous civilian power facilities and few communications centers. To help bring chaos to the Somalia ranks government buildings that were deemed to be of high to moderate importance were also wiped out.

All of the above was carried out in a methodical and careful manner and this fact plus the vast difference in technology allowed the air mission to be carried out without the loss of single Australian plane. As the aircraft returned to their carriers for rearming and refueling the war fleet split with the majority of the fleet's vessels staying to protect the carriers while a handful of cruisers and destroyers escorted the landing ships in further towards the coast where they unleashed their smaller landing craft which ferried, men, vehicles and equipment on to the Somalia beaches where they landed and began establishing a number of forward operating bases.
