Hereno
[Private]With the consolidation of Confederate power under Sir Walter, efforts to increase trade with Europe led to a decision to take the Azores for the CRNA. A single carrier group and five accompanying landing ships have been sent to secure the island chain.[1/7]
Hereno
[Private]At the last second, Sir Walter consulted a map and realized that the islands he was looking at were not the Azores, but was actually Cape Verde! The ship captains were notified of their new destination before setting sail.
Hereno
[Private]A message has been relayed to the local forces on Cape Verde:To protect the Atlantic from devastation...To unite all peoples within its location...To denounce the evils of other nations...To extend our ability to go on vacation...The Confederate navy is here to remove darkness from light:Surrender now or prepare to fight![2/7] Edited December 25, 2014 by Hereno
Hereno
[Private]Economic growth, that's right!A blockade has been enacted around the island chain. Anti-missile defenses, runways, and anti-aircraft installations are bombarded with missiles in anticipation of an air strike. The air strike is targeted at bunkers, guns, and naval installations. Soon after, the landing ships unload their troops onto battered islands, which quickly surrender with little fighting. Casualties are minimal, civilian infrastructure remains intact, and rebuilding should only take a few weeks.[3/7]
Hereno
[Private]Successful in its mission, the Confederate navy has gone home. Approximately 5,000 soldiers - one for every hundred persons on the island - have stayed behind to assist in the rebuilding efforts. These will include rebuilding military infrastructure and bolstering it significantly, as well as a more perfect integration with the Confederate economy proper in North America. Additionally, they will be training local soldiers to be stationed in the island chain.[4/7]
Hereno
[Private]The military infrastructure from before the invasion - admittedly quite shabby - has been replaced. While more elaborate defenses will be constructed later on, there is some defensive capability back on the island, and the airports and harbors are all in working order.[5/7]
Hereno
[Private]The size of the military on the island has increased by about 200% as a result of the excellent training programs. The islands have been integrated with the mainland's defense, and elaborate radar & early warning systems have been erected. The economy is booming with tourists from the mainland, and infrastructure has never been in better shape. The citizens of Cape Verde love their new leaders and the flag of the Confederacy proudly flies over every house, government building, shack, business, and doghouse.[6/7]
