Punics in the Baltic

Carthage had for a long time been looking at the Baltic for a potential new friend but to date it had mostly been comfortable maintaining simply cordial relations rather than seeking direct diplomacy. With the lack of friends in Europe and more importantly the rising trade empire that was Carthage it seemed access to the Baltic and good relations with Sverige were a lot more important now. In line with this a formal invitation would be sent to the government. Due to the now active state of war the suggestion was made that having a diplomat from Carthage travel to Sverige might be a safer option.

Diplomatic Reply from Sverige

The Kingdom of Sverige would be delighted to host a friend of our ally Northlands. We are more than willing to host a diplomat from your nation, however with the current state of affairs and the recent divorce, the King may not be available to attend the meeting. However our Foreign Affairs Minister, Julian Olsson, is looking forward to conducting business with your nation.

As soon as the Swedes had granted permission for Carthage to visit first class tickets on a non-Carthaginian airline would be booked. After all, with the terror coalition you could never be sure whether or not they would shoot at a government plane flying diplomatic colours. On the plane would be a senior ambassador with the Carthaginian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Leyla Ahmed. Upon landing she would meet whoever had been sent to receive her.

The Foreign Affairs Minister of Carthage would be escort to the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Sverige. She would be escorted into a conference room where the King of Sverige was present with a few other aids, as well as his younger brother. Both King Karl Gustaf, and Sigvard Gustaf were idly chatting between each other in Swedish about affairs of the world as well as the current state of the Kingdom. As she was brought into the room they would both stand and bow to her.

"It is my pleasure to meet with a delegate from Carthage." The King smiled and sat down, followed by his younger brother, sitting down after he did. "I must say I was surprised to get a message from your prestigious nation, especially considering our current political ties, as well as your current political ties with the current war going on. So what do we owe the pleasure of this visit to?" The door opened and some people brought in a variety of food and drink and placed it on the table. "Please feel free to help yourself."

Leyla nodded as she took a selection of things. "Well my government feels that despite the ongoing war there is in fact hope for a future Carthaginian-Swedish agreement. Such an agreement would guarantee us access to the lucrative markets of the Baltic states while also providing your own state untaxed access through the Strait of Gibraltar and thus the economies of the Mediterranean. I also believe that it is in both our interests to see some kind of security alliance formed to deal with threats against our states' existences"

Sigvard would make no attempt at being a well mannered person as he dug into the food, while the King would refrain from eating for the time being. "I am inclined to agree towards the possibility of a trade agreement. We both sit as nations that have a projection of power through vital trade routes, and maintain control of what goes in and out of these routes. If we are going to have a trade agreement, as well a security alliance as you have suggested, I would be interested in the possibility existing that we move along a path of mutual interest. Such as if one nation prevents the passage of a nation through ones trade routes, the other does so as well. This would quicken the need for the outside party to seek diplomatic venues towards the both of us so the original offended party could solve the issue."
