2230 AD

The War between the Varosian Empire and the Talos Federation had been going on for Ten Years, started when the Varosian Empire had infringed Talos Federation Territory to gain more resources. The conflict had been a hard fought one with an armistice now in place, though the peace was tenuous at best. Rebel Factions such as the Viper Consortium and the Darkness Brotherhood had pillaged the planets and trade routes along the Armistice Line. Times were tough and each side were eyeing an opportunity to strike.

Prologue: A Fragile Pace

Day One

Space Station Fox was a Major Space Station, orbiting the Planet Jakos which was a only Ten Thousand Kilometers from the edge of the Armistice Line and a Forward Operating Base. It was Fifty Thousand Metres Long and Thirty Thousand Metres High. It had Five Thousand Floors with a Hundred Hangars and many Defences such as countless laser turrets. It was able to support up to Three Hundred Large Vessels if need be and had a defence of Two Thousand Fighters. The station was an impregnable obstacle the Talos Federation had.

However the Station had been defending against Rebel Ship Attacks for months. The number of attacks had been in the thousands although it had not been a major issue. Smugglers was another problem, with the day being marked by the capture of a suspected Spice Freighter carrying expensive contraband from the deposits on the planet below. It was now landing at a hangar inside the Station. It was to be kept there while the crew was interrogated.

However the ship held a surprise which was hidden in the ship's structure, waiting to be revealed....

Everywhere else the Station was on normal procedures with its inhabitants going about their normal duties. The Cargo Ship which was on a hangar on the port side of Floor 3142 had been secured and the crew now being returned to their vessel. However they would not reach it, as suddenly without warning the hidden deadly cargo of explosives which had been running on a timer detonated.

The massive explosion ripped the vessel and hangar apart, the fireball venting through the internal conditioning ducts and punching through the doors leading out of the hangar. It also raced down corridors, incinerating equipment and anyone nearby. The hangar floor and roof was ripped apart, tearing bulkheads and punching into the two floors directly above and the two floors below. The shock wave reverberated around the station, triggering alarms and sensors. For a moment the whole station froze in shock and confusion.

The aftermath was a sense of utter destruction with an area effecting an area of a thousand metres in each direction. The epicentre of the blast was a giant hole, though there had been no outer hull breech due to the explosion collapsing what was left of the hangar ceiling and the tonnes of wreckage which had been the vessel. Elsewhere in the effected zone there was at least twenty floors initially effected either by fire, smoke or structural damage.

The ships reactors had amplified the explosions power, with many doorways in that area bucking under the shock wave, parts of floors had also collapsed trapping people inside. The responding damage crews could not reach them as blast doors automatically sealed the effected areas off. Trying to unseal them would be difficult as power lines in the area had been severed by the blast and some backup generators had been knocked out.

However a new threat was closing in fast on the port side, with the station unable to see due to the panic. The situation was about to get worse.

The Suicide Drones screamed in at Mach 3, too fast for the Laser Turret Defences to intercept. The first wave of twenty slammed into the structure with ripple of concentrated explosions. They tore through the effected areas, leaving massive hull breaches sucking whatever was in those areas out into the vacuum of space. The sudden new threat caused ever more panic, with new teams sent to the effected areas. Then the second wave hit.

Ten more collided with the Station, causing more damage. One would penetrate at least sixty feet into the station on Floor 3274, severing a corridor and hitting a Major Reactor. It exploded with a force of One Megaton, ripping a swathe of destruction. The blast ripped Fifteen Floors in that part of the station to shreds as a huge fire took hold. A huge shock wave caused further floors to buckle and killed hundreds instantly, injuring countless more. Crews would spend seventeen hours trying to bring it under control, afraid of radioactive contamination or any surviving fuel rods cooking off in the flames.

Finally after the barrage of explosions, it was over. The sound of sirens echoed in areas around the effected zone, with Floors 3000 to 4000 in the port side of the Station declared off limits due to the severe damage. The Talos Federation Navy's Sixteenth Fleet would arrive two hours after the attack ended, warping into the station after being scrambled from the nearby Erusia System. They would now be the protectors of the Station while it was repaired, plus help search for the origin of the attack.

Orionsi System

Varosian Empire Controlled Space

Word of the failed attack on the Jakos System and Talosian reinforcement of the System had reached Varosian Imperial Command. Their plan to take out the station before assaulting the System had been torn up and the fear was surprise had been lost. However the timetable would only be delayed by a few weeks. Reinforcements were arriving on the Varosian side of the Armistice Line which was mainly Assault Troops who would land on Dropships on Jakos to take it as a Forward Operating Base for further assaults.

The Plan codenamed Operation Clean Sweep, was a surprise assault against Three Separate Star Systems involving close to a Half Million Soldiers and Five Thousand Vessels. Jakos System was the main effort, with its location being between the other two targets of the smaller Hagos and Yaterna Systems. Once Jakos had fallen, it would force the Talosian Federation out of the other two as it would be unable to sustain their garrisons in the sector. Planning would go on.

Jakos System
Talos Federation Controlled Space

The System was now host to an entire Battle Group, with Talosian Ground Units numbering Twenty Thousand Battle Hardened Soldiers had landed on the planet to reinforce on the Five Thousand already on world. However a small scale evacuation of non native citizens was undertaken with a view to get them away from the deteriorating situation.

Space Station Fox was under a major repair. It had massive damage which had reduced the effectiveness of operations. The attack had killed an estimated Five Thousand People, plus destroying Thirty Six Hangars and many vessels. Fears were there would be further attacks, meaning that the State of Alert was now on a constant high. However there was no way that an evacuation of the Station would take place due to the High Strategic Importance of the System.

Two Weeks Later

Jakos System

Day One of the Varosian Jakos Offensive

The Varosian assault came unexpectedly and without mercy. Two Whole Battlegroups numbering a Hundred and Fifty Vessels left the Orionsi System and began moving swiftly through the Demilitarised Area, destroying Sixty Listening Posts without warning. The assault on the Hagos and Yaterna Systems had been postponed to make this main effort as easy as possible.

At the same time, the Jakos System finally felt the weight of the assault. Space Station Fox was suddenly attacked by Two Hundred Suicide Drones, wrecking the station, with the Varosian Battlefleet warping directly into the system and engaging the Talosian Federation Battlegroup there. Its sudden arrival was a shock and completely threw the defenders off guard.

Space Station Fox after being hit countless times by the Suicide Drones and Turbolaser Fire was in ruins, with the survivors abandoning the station. It's orbit was now beginning to decay as the Power Reactors on the Station had failed, leaving the station unable to power its stabilising thrusters.

Meanwhile on Jakos itself, Varosian Troop Dropships had landed and began to slowly take over the surface. The Talosian Federation Garrison with its surface Ion Cannons would take a heavy toll of Varosian vessels, with two Super Battleships coming crashing down. However by the end of the first day they had at least a fifth of the planet under their control, with several major cities occupied.

However the Capital Jakosia was still well protected under a Deflection Shield, with most of the Planet's Garrison moving to protect it. At the same time, under a cordon in orbit over the City of what remained of the Garrison Battlegroup, evacuation of people wanting to leave was under way. The good thing was so far all Varosian efforts was geared to getting their forces on the planet surface so the evacuation was unhindered so far.

Jakos System
Day One Hundred and Twenty of the Varosian Jakos Offensive

The Varosian Empire had by now conquered most of the planet, with Talosian forces now mostly evacuated. The remnants were still holding, however the Capital Jakosia which had lost its Deflection Shield after being disabled by Varosian Commandos. It had fallen on Day Seventy Six of the Offensive, with a final stand being made on the nearby Fajas Peninsula. However the Varosian Plan to end resistance was to be a sudden and violent air strike using Tactical Nuclear Weapons.

Elsewhere mopping up operations were under way with the first signs of the Occupation Force now evident and the imposition of Varosian Empire rule now being brought into force. The system would now become a staging area for further operations once Varosian Forces consolidated their position.

Meanwhile in orbit, the Varosian Military had taken control of Space Station Fox, though with a skeleton crew. Damage was extensive and the orbit was now significantly closer and slowly decaying, but hidden was a final surprise. Talosian Commandos had taken advantage of the skeleton crew and slipped onto the station to place demolition charges in weak spots, especially near Nuclear Reactors to cause maximum damage. As the day began, the charges were entering the end of their countdown.

Then suddenly they exploded, setting off multiple reactors, ripping the station apart and killing everyone on board. The blast is equivalent to a Sixty Megaton Nuclear Explosion, scattering the debris of the wrecked station outwards. Most of it is blasted straight down towards the Planet Surface, causing streaks of light in the atmosphere. Large chucks crash down, causing massive craters and levelling wide expanses of area.

What remained in space became a massive debris field orbiting around the planet, covering a good portion in the Northern Hemisphere. The blast had also created a massive Electromagnetic Pulse which would now disrupt communications for the time being. The raid would cause many troubles for the Varosian Empire Forces in the System for some time.
