"If we weren't leaders?" Jeanne says incredulously, "Don't say such wicked things, our nations wouldn't be safe, our people starved and impoverished. I took this job willingly dear, it's a calling that I readily stood up to take. Defender of a culture, one of the finest in the world."

She leads Kazuko around a corner and into a rather posh building, hugging her around the waist, "Besides, if we didn't rule we would never have met."

"I was not given such an option but I doubt the Imperium would be beyond Japan without my vision leading it, Ethnic and religious divisions are so 20th century, I'll drag the world kicking and screaming into the 22nd if that's what it takes. You certainly are the finest in the world." she teased, nuzzling into her as they walked into the building, "I'm sure the fates wouldn't have let us go through our whole lives without forcing an encounter."

"France would almost certainly be under the Aegis of some German or British moron with no more knowledge of war than they have of the bottom of the seas." She opens the door and motions Kazuko inside, "I'm not terribly impressed with many of my contemporaries in Europe if you hadn't noticed. I have much less faith in fate than you also it seems."

She simply shrugged, "It all tends to come together when you want it to, life that is. The other european leaders I haven't had much interaction with, but if my experience with the British was any indication of how the rest of them behave, I have no real interest in doing so either."  After a few words with the concierge, they were escorted from the luxurious lobby to a penthouse suite, with a bottle of champagne waiting for them. "You certainly have excellent taste in hide aways." She said, wandering through the gigantic apartment they'd be staying in tonight.

"If I didn't have a gross amount of hidey holes there would be no time for me to enjoy myself among the people because they would be too busy fawning over me." she says, grossly exaggerating her people's love for her for humorous intent, "I must at some point take a break from the stress of rule or I'll surely snap. That's what ministers are for after all." she pops the champagne and pours a pair of glasses.

"I like sneaking off every once in a while, but they still always manage to track me, something about keeping my safe. They are my bodyguards and yet I can kick any two of their asses, interesting how that works, eh?" She said, taking the glass, "Although I was thankful the time that guy smashed into my car, he won't ever be making that mistake again." She opened the doors to the balcony, stepping out with a glass in hand, holding it up to Jeanne she smiled, "To our love of independence, may we forever remain thorns in the side of those we are surrounded by."

"A mere thorn? Hah!" struck by a poetic instinct that she'd tried so hard to suppress in public, she threw the champagne in her glass over the balcony and poured herself a new one, "No, a Lance through their hearts, a nightmare they cannot wake from. I am more than a mere thorn, to my friends I am a great weapon, to my foes an enemy as easily conquered as the very heart of the earth. My name is known the world around because I am bold, because I espouse creeds and morals that no other leader in the world has the courage to keep themselves to. I am better than they, I am an old-style ruler for the new world."

She touched her glass to Kazuko's, the balcony filling with the high ringing of the two glasses, "I am a mistake that none live to forget, a friend that none can possibly discount." she draws herself up haughtily as she drinks, but smiles, "No mere thorn."

After downing her glass, she laughed, "How poetic of you, I obviously need to catch up to you, you are quite the egotist after a few bottles of wine, I like it though," she said leaning in for a soft kiss on the lips, "It makes me feel safe that I have someone I can rely on, someone to be my weapon if I require, you have certainly been a trusted confidant and that is something I will never forget. I was going to save it as a surprise for you, but when we're all finished, I'd like you to come to Tokyo, they're constructing a monument in the Bay, a statue of you and I, holding hands and pointing east. No matter how dark the night, the Sun always rises. Now look at what you've done, now I am spouting off poetry as well.

"Statues? Isn't that a bit premature?" Jeanne says, drinking a little more, "To have monuments built in your honor after your death, that is to have been a great person. But to have them built in your lifetime, that is a bit arrogant. I might do something terrible with my time left, or turn out to be some dismal failure, who should know? I may not deserve a monument in a few years. It reminds me of pyramids."
