Declaration of the Republic of Borneo

The Republic of Borneo exists. It is led by Prime Minister Giorgio Franco, and consists of all territories of the former states of Malaysia and Brunei on the island of Borneo.

"Long have the Borneans been subjugated by empires and petty Sultans. But today, we rise triumphant. To victory! For Borneo!"

[Not Public]

Several leaky old unarmed biplanes would fly across the rest of the island, dropping leaflets advocating for independence for the entirety of the island. An additional appeal was sent to the Japanese Empress, imploring her to allow the Borneans being subjugated by the Japanese to vote for independence from occupation should they choose to do so. The language used, however, was much nicer. Edited by Hereno

The Imperium would grant sovereignty to Borneo, self rule a core tenant of the whole system after all.

:Public:

"The East Asian Imperium recognizes the independence of Borneo, and will be protecting them until such they are able to maintain their own military."

"Really? Only three nations in the entire goddamn world recognize we exist? What are we, Kosovo?"

Giorgio waved his hand above his head, causing his advisers to look at each other and shrug, as if they were in a cartoon or something. He laid back in his chair, barely conscious, and let some more words stumble out of his mouth a few minutes later.

"Oh well. $%&@ it. We'll play ball with the people who want to play ball with us, and damn the rest of them to Hell. You hear me? YOU HEAR ME JOHNSON?!"

Without warning, the leader got up and charged at one of the aides, causing the rest to scatter.

Johnson laughed. "Yeah man, I hear you" he said, before putting his hands on his hips as the charge slowed to a walk.

"LOL" shouted the leader, articulating each letter with purpose, and continuing to scare the rest of the aides. "I bet those rookie morons actually thought I was going after you. That would be ridiculous, wouldn't it?"

"Yes, it most certainly would, sir."

As Johnson replied, the rest of the staff seemed a bit more at ease.

"We should have them all executed for their mistrust in you."

The eyes of the aides got as large as saucers as they tried to play their cool, not sure if this was another trick or not. They stood as still as icicles hanging from a rooftop, just waiting to smash on the ground should they be given a little push.

"What? That's ridiculous. Are you high or something?" The leader retorted, confused and very high himself.

"No, not at all, it was just a joke..." Johnson started, before being interrupted halfway through the "all".

"Well that's the !@#$@#$ problem then. Get over here and drink some of this feel-good juice you square."

As Johnson reached for the leader's thermos, the leader laughed from his stomach. "No, no, that's not the juice I was talking about..." he said, looking down. A ball formed in Johnson's throat as he looked down at the leader's crotch, before looking back up at his head and then down at his other. This was certainly embarrassing.

Without a word, the silence of the room was cut by the leader reaching into his pocket and pulling out a bag of kratom.

"Here. Go take this over to the machine in the office and make your own damn tea."

The aides giggled in amusement, before being instructed to send messages to all nations whom had recognized the existence of Borneo, inviting them to engage with Giorgio himself in diplomatic talks. While the Prussians were not expected to give a !@#$, the Northlands and Japan were both regional presences and so were considered to be a bit more likely to respond. Other nations who had not yet recognized Borneo, including Druk Yul, the Great Lakes Republic, and Persia, all of whom were regional presences, were additionally invited to send their own representatives to Borneo. [Secret]

With tensions brewing in the region, President Giorgio has used the resurgent Indo-Malaysian nationalism to earmark large funding for an intricate, complex guerrilla warfare system spanning the entire island. While similar to such defenses used by the Vietnamese, these took into account over 40 years of innovation in atypical warfare, along with substantial funding unavailable to the Vietnamese, and so would make an invasion and occupation of the island all but impossible in combination with the natural forestry, harsh climate, and exotic animal life. Additional money was earmarked for substantial coastal defenses, as well as strategic placement of many small air bases throughout the island to ensure that even the most heavy of bombardments could not disable the Bornean air force.
