CNRP'40 Rule Discussion: Mergers

Indeed, which is why I say this in reference to a merged nation, not allies. Though, maybe its a zoot point, nonsensical, I'll think on it more or possibly forget about by lunch time.

Yeah, though the suggestions here do take that option in account already by requiring every part of a merge to rp their own portion of the points.

So the poll options would more likely be.

1. 800 per nation, everyone can rp all forces

2. 800 per player, every participant can only rp their 800 points.

To me, what makes a merger different than two nations is that people in a merger are more or less forced to always come to a consensus decision to act as a unified nation, whereas coalitions can form and split and move around based on the national interests of each nation. Having each player RP their "section" of the army separately is, frankly, kind of ridiculous and clunky. And, at the same time, it would be ridiculous and gamey to let each player have 800 points to contribute just for one person to run around dominating the rest of us. 600 points takes this into consideration while still realizing that one nation should be acting unified.

Both your statements are not backed up by precedent, we have seen mergers way more unstable than any coalition and no merger has ever lasted as long as certain coalitions have. Having everyone rp their own units has also always worked well and your third option while lowering the total points is a lot easier to take advantage of by truly just having people merge into you that won't post.

Any proposal that doesn't restrict people to RPing their own points is going to be a mess. It would lead to the situation where a state consists out of two or more people, who all bring together points and the strongest of the lot becomes the one to conduct all warfare, because they know best. That people control their own points is a safeguard, because it prevents the Weygands from donating points to the Rommels.

I don't even see why this needs to be a vote.

Mergers get 800 points to work with - nothing more, nothing less. If they want the double million men or whatnot, then they don't have to merge. Blocs, alliances, whatever - those are irrelevant, that's normal RP. Mergers are abnormal.

Proposal:

Each individual has the full set of 800, but must RP their own forces.

Proposal 2:

In a merged nation, each individual gets a decreasing amount of points. 1st person merging gets 600 on top of the original's 800. 2nd gets 400. 3rd gets 200. Everyone can RP each others forces.
