Following the Empires announcment that it was open for buisiness, Parliament permitted an allocation of funds to construct a series of sea forts around Britain to provide offshore defence on vunerable beaches and sea ways. Furthermore, these sea forts would also house a new development known as 'radar' which would provide commanders on the mainland eyes far beyond visual range and allow an advantage to be given to the RAF in terms of interception of hostile aircraft.

These sea forts would be armed with four QF 3.75 inch guns and two Bofors 40 mm guns. The 'forts' themselves would be in a cluster of seven structures and would mainly be focussed around river estuaries such as the Thames, the Severn and Mersey as some examples of major shipping ports. That said, the Irish sea between Britain and the Isle of Man would be filled with such structures to deter any attempt by the Irish state to interfere with British interests.

Larger forts would be constructed in the English channel focused more between Calais and Dover, these forts would be larger in order to accomodate larger artillery as well as reinforcement from bombardment. Notification was sent to France over these forts and the purpose of their construction. A full explanation would be provided at a later date when both heads of state deemed it a good time to meet.

With these developments underway, the vast industrial complex that sprawled across Britain would be subjected to massive orders to fill out the needs of the army, airforce and navy.

The primary vehicles to be used by the army would be the Valentine cruiser tank, a medium tank that would provide the backbone of Britains armoured fist. Supplimenting the Valentine would be the Daimler Armoured Car, Humber Armoured Car,  Daimler Dingo, Bren Gun Carriers and M2 Half-tracks. This comprehensive list of armoured vehicles would allow a highly agile and highly armed British force the mobility needed to out manouver and obliterate an enemy formation. When facing another mechanised force however, the fights victory would largely come down to who had more guns. A host of unarmoured, wheeled vehicles would provide transport for the majority of the army.

The airforce would be made up of a variety of aircraft. Starting with the Spitfire with the A type and D type wing configurations. Also to be entering service as fighter aircraft is the Hawker Hurricane and the Bristol Beaufighter. As part of Bomber Commands mission to provide flexible and devestating bomber forces to support ground operations the Bristol Blenheim, Vought SB2U Vindicator, Lockheed Hudson, Fairey Swordfish, Handley Page Halifax and the B-17 'Fortress I' are to enter service. Bomber commands mission was to provide a strong backbone to ground operations, as well as provide long range strategic level bombing against centers of industry and logistical routes such as railroads and bridges.

The Navy, the nations first line of defence and most important piece of Britains defensive puzzle was critical not only to the defence of Britain, but its overseas territories as well, and if worst came to worst, to continue fighting a war from abroad.

The Royal Navy would consist of a large battlegroups centered around battleships and aircraft carriers. The doctrines of naval domination of trade lanes and overpowering levels of firepower to destroy or deter hostile naval forces would lead the way as the admiralty began drawing up the navy on paper.

Comprised of King George V-class battleships, Illustrious-class aircraft carrier, Admiral class battlecruisers, York-class cruisers, Crown Colony-class cruisers, L class destroyers, Admiralty type flotilla leader class destroyers, Flower-class corvettes, U-class submarines, T-class submarines, Grampus-class submarines, S-class submarines and River-class fleet submarines.

The wide array of warships was to ensure that a ship for any circumstance could be called on to fulfil any role required, be it humanitarian or military in nature anywhere in the world.

A convoy of troop ships with a small destroyer escort would leave Portsmouth for Morocco carrying the Black Watch Infantry Regiment and the Royal Highland Fusiliers Regiment. It would take around three weeks for them to arrive and begin disembarking in the city of Tangier. They would land with rifles slung over their backs as they moved to secure the city and establish supply depots and a command HQ for future operations.

With no resistance in Tangier, General Montgomery would proceed to fortify the outskirts of the city as well as prepare forces to hold the city when the rest of the force would move south to secure Rabat.

A message was sent to the provincial administrators in Algeria that two regiments of British infantry had landed in Morocco was had claimed protectorate over the territory and that the end game was annexation. It assured the French that no harm was meant to any French interests and once combat operations had ceased, a regular garrison would be left in the territory.

Several divisions of Troupes coloniales, Tirailleurs algeriens and Zouaves would be dispatched from French Algeria into neighbouring Morocco. This would be accompanied with the sending of additional troops from Toulon to North Africa.

Additionally, a message would be sent to London.

"British actions in Morocco are not tolerable and France sees no reason to recognise a British protectorate over Morocco. This move going directly against historic French interests in the area can hardly be construed as anything but a grave affront against our people and we would hope Britain can explain herself. As it stands, we urge Britain to leave Morocco, lest the situation escalates."

The telegram had arrived almost on the tail of the first British message. Thus the response would also be speedy.

To: Pierre Laval, Ministre des Affaires étrangères

From: General Montgomery, British Army, Commander of Expeditionary Forces in Morocco

'I apologise on behalf of the British Government for this grievious offence caused to France. British intelligence, not to mention Ministry of War cartographers did not take into account historical French interests in the region and as such, I failed to check the map and background reading very carefully and as a result, caused the present problem.

British forces will begin removing themselves from Morocco and shall be on their way to the next destination by the end of the week'

After the telegram was sent, British forces would begin reloading the ships, which thankfully would not be such a large job and re-embarking. It would take around two days for everything to be loaded back up again and the flotilla would leave Tangiers and continue south to resupply at the Georgia and South Sandwich islands before continuing on to South Africa.

Once they had docked in Jo'berg the British forces would once again disembark and begin again their mission of securing the city and establishing a HQ before further operations were launched to secure the rest of the state. After this first hiccup, Westminister was highly pissed off with Montgomery and very nearly stripped him of rank, it was only luck that prevented it.

Subj: Invite to Paris

I wish to thank you for the invite. I passed on the invite to the highest authority in Britain and the King himself spoke very highly of visiting Paris. His Majesty, as chief diplomat of the United Kingdom will represent Britain in these talks at his own request. As a veteran of the Great War, he will also be paying his respects to the fallen.

The British forces in South Africa spread out over the region in force, with a considerable number of soldiers left in both Johannesburg and Pretoria. The etablishment of the Command HQ in Pretoria and the military fort in Johannesburg allowed a steady line of supply between the two cities as fortified lines of communication were established to protect against armed insurrection from the Boers.

A request was sent back to London for the deployment of a further 35,000 men to expand operations.

In addition to the Valentine tank, Ministry of War officials had been developing a heavier class of tank to suppliment the armoured spearhead of a lightening war doctrine. The Montgomery Tank, named after its designer, General Montgomery, is a medium sized tank, and provides the much needed power behind the punch. Its thicker armour and larger main armament will provide the fire support needed for an offensive or defensive warfare the Empire may find itself in.

With the Empires many colonies throughout the world, Westminister began allocating funds and organising projects to increase the quality of life across the major territories. The Empires territories in the caribbean such as the Turks and Caicos Islands, Montserrat, Cayman Islands, British Virgin Islands, Anguilla and Bermuda would all recieve the lions share of funding and work as they would be home to significant military forces to protect British colonial interests in the region including naval forces.

Large naval bases would be constructed and vunerable islands would be fortified and have existing military infrastructure upgraded to include radar and airstrips.

The colonies in the Atlantic would each be turned into large sea forts with the sole purposes of being way stations for fleets travelling long distances and radar stations to moniter surface and aerial traffic in the respective areas around the islands. The larger islands would be developed into major naval installations with large air strips.

South Africa

In South Africa, to accompany the Infantry division now securing the state, the remainder of the 3rd army would be deployed over the following weeks. The additional nine infantry divisions and the entire mechanised and armoured elements would allow a far broader and stronger set of operations to take place in the region. It would take many months to move the entire force into the region rom its bases in Britain, but given its new deployment, the 3rd Army was now the Kings African Legion. Montgomerys intitial request for an extra 35,000 men had reached London, but the decision was made to simply move the entire army down to South Africa for future operations.

The First Support Flotilla would be running constant escort operations for the convoys making the journey to Johannesburg.

A small convoy of vessels laden with the First Bermudan Rifles, a force of 5,000 men would depart Bermuda and sail to Jamaica to bring it back under British influence. The Great War affected the colonies as much as back home and Jamaican politicans used the war as an excuse, much like Ireland to seize independence. Much like the Irish easter rising, it was wiped out, but following the brutal put down of the rebellion, the attention it brought turned the right heads in Parliament.

It was these heads that eventually managed to grant Jamaica its independence.

But since then, the island nation in isolation had slowly degraded following allegations of corruption and brutality by representatives of the Government. So much so that a small rebel element managed to get a message to British authorities in Bermuda. Colonial administration sent the message to London, who in term ordered the deployment of the 1st Bermudan.

As the convoy flotilla moved towards the coast and the lead ship got within range, several light artillery batteries opened up along the proposed landing site, the shells landing short of the fleet in the water, sending up huge spouts of water. The flotilla would begin moving out of range before dropping anchor and waiting for some heavier fire support to enter the theatre.

The Fifth Support Flotilla would arrive within the week.

South Africa

The last few weeks had allowed British forces time to secure the state, providing security in the way of overwhelming firepower against wayward natives who had briefly threatened the new province. With more soldiers arriving every week, the former politicans of South Africa who had enjoyed the respect of Westminister were pulled out of retirement to put together a new provisional, non military Government in South Africa which would eventually lead to full elections to take the pressure away from British politicians in London. Naturally, the new Government would be loyal to London as the scope of operations in Africa required that there be no doubts of an attack from the rear. However, with that being in place, progressives in Parliament lifted all restrictions on black inhabitants of South Africa holding positions of power in a bid to create a racially harmonious society in line with the democratic and free principles of the Empire. No man was above the law, and all men were equal.

Along the frontier, away from all the towns and cities, a string of fortified positions was developed to house forward supply depots and garrison forces, not to mention staging grounds.

The small fleet had been sitting off the coast just outside of the shore guns range for nearly a week now until the Fifth Support Flotilla arrived on the scene to lay down some heavy firepower. It was hoped that the display of force against the defending militas would be enough to deter any attempt to oppose the British force which had been deployed to remove the tyrannical and corrupt regime which had since taken hold of most of the island.

The cruisers would begin shelling the defensive positions of the militias with HE shells as they had no fortified positions that could protect them from such force. Deliberately targetting the artillery positions it wouldn't take long before the heavy guns were silenced, that was when they turned on the other positions. Keeping up a steady bombardment, the 1st Bermudan would begin embarking into the landing craft to begin the journey to the coastline.

As they neared the beaches, resistance forces began firing at the British, but were then quickly eliminated by the shore bombardment from the cruisers. As they ramps went down and the men poured onto the beach, moving quickly under covering fire from machineguns in the landing craft and artillery from the ships off the coast.

Three hours later

The beach had been won with only a hundred or so casualties and the 1st Bermudan began moving in land as aircraft from the seaplane tender flew over head, providing recon information all the way to Kingston. Reports came flooding in of mass surrenders from the defenders. Enemy moral was low, and as Britain intended to annex Jamaica, all efforts were made to prove they came not as conquerers, but as liberators. Any man who surrendered would not be taken prisoner. His weapons would be confiscated and then he could go home to his family. Only the ruling Government would face the courts.

Like the operations in Africa with the Kings German Legion, the 4th Army would be deployed in its entirety and distributed across the Caribbean. Work would begin on fortifying the islands and landing beaches, as well as installing more anti aircraft and coastal bombardment artillery. In addition to the 4th, the 1st Minelaying and Supply Squadron would be deployed to the region to prepare for minelaying operations along with the 5th Submarine Wolfpack and the 6th Submarine Wolfpack.

Complimenting the submarines, the 3rd Fleet and the 1st Battleship Fleet would be ordered into the region to bolster the Fifth Support Flotilla which was engaged in operations in Jamaica.

On convoys of ships, three hundred Spitfires, four hundred Hurricanes, one hundred Bristol Beaufighters as well as one hundred Vought SB2U Vindicators and finally, one hundred B-17's would make their way to new bases across the islands. By exchanging bombs for more fuel, it could be done, but the aircraftwould be sucking fumes when they landed. Ordenance would arrive by ship.

South Africa

Plans were ditched to create a Government for South Africa in favour of a colonial Government run by native politicians under the control of the Governor General. With that now in place and taxes now flowing to the treasury, civil engineers would begin the process of modernisation and upgrading the infastructure of the country.

By rebuilding roads, hospitals, power stations and other vital services jobs would be provided for the locals and a steady income. The re-development of South Africas industry would see it geared towards heavy industry such as ship building, weapons, armour and aircraft. Vast mines would be dug for precious metals and gems.

Vast fortifications would be constructed to house artillery batteries and anti air batteries around cities and on the frontier. The project would be larger in scale than similar projects on going back in Britain itself. But for now, South Africa was officially part of the British Empire once again.

The 1st Bermudan made quick work of the light resistance as they pushed to Kingston. Under the support of the 5th support flotilla which was now in Kingston bay, its guns aimed at the heart of the city. It didn't take long for the government to capulate. Ministers in the regime betrayed the leaders, shooting them as they tried to flee for their lives. These Ministers approached the British forces outside of the city preparing their siege guns and surrendered.

With the bloodshed of the previous week over and minimal casualties for both sides, work began at stablising the island and making it prosperous again. Colonial administration in London would send out a Governer for the island to lead the recovery and work that was to be done to bring Jamaica back into the Empire.

Jamaica

Several weeks had passed since the surrender of Kingston and all 'resistance' had been quelled after Brigadier Smith issued an edict of clemency to all those who still carried arms. This act of mercy was the final nail in the coffin for those who considered Britain an invader and they all began to return home and lay down their arms. With these elements dealt with bloodlessly, the 1st Bermudan was retired to its positions on the outskirts of the city in a military base that was being constructed.

In the place of the soldiers to ensure law and order was kept, the Royal Jamaican Constabulary was formed out of the old police force. It would be under the eyes of the RJC that elections would be held on the island to provide a free and democratic colonial Government. This process would be tied into similar actions being undertaken for South Africa which would pave the way for Jamaica to become an imperial realm, a nation in its own right with King George at its helm. With representation in Parliament also on the cards the only powers Jamaica would not have would be to declare its own wars, unless of course it voted to become independent in the future.

With tensions in the caribbean at an all time high between Britain, Spain and the Americans and the military convoys now endlessly deploying soldiers and aircraft around Britains islandsto ensure they were fully defended, secondary defensive properties would begin. Using elevated positions on the islands, artillery pieces would be moved into position and beaches would be prepared for any hostile landings by laying barbed wire, belgian gates, land mines, czech hedgehods and Dragon's teeth. Trenches would be dug and reinforced to provde cover for defending soldiers, artillery and machinegun positions as well as deeper 'dug outs', to provide top cover in case of air raids. AA guns would be set up around targets of importance and with the recent completion of the caribbean radar network, no island would be caught unawares.  But just incase tensions did die down, all landmines would be taken note of so that they could be removed safely at a later date.

The reinforcing naval forces who had arrived from other patrol locations would take up defensive positions around British islands and would be ready to provide a flexible force of interception against any foreign invasion.

With the Americans mobilising the decision was made to deploy the entire fleet to the Atlantic. The first through fifth wolfpacks would patrol the entire American coastline from Florida to New Foundland seeking out and tracking hostile warships and convoys. With all fleets apart from the 2nd fleet now steaming to take up positions around the British overseas territories in the Caribbean. They would sit well within range of the islands own artillery, bolstering each fleet with the firepower of an unsinkable platform.

All garrison forces would go to a full war footing and emergency protocols were activated across the islands preparing the people for a long drawn out war. British forces would entrench even deeper and harder than they already were doing, munitions dumps and weapons emplacments would be fully supplied and hidden.

Every soldier and civilian on those islands was praying that diplomacy would find a way to avoid a war.

RAF squadrons on the islands would regularly fly combat patrols out to sea to keep a watchful eye on the horizon for any enemy fleets.

Following an emergency meeting between Lord Postlethwaite and the President of Mexico a understanding was reached. It would take a few days for it to be confirmed by Parliament, and then by the King himself given the severity of the crisis. But the treaty past with a safe majority in Westminister and confirmation was sent directly to the Mexican embassy informing them that Britain would begin the process of a power transfer in Jamaica to Mexican authorities who would have little work to do following the completion of the elections, as well as the general military drawdown across the region back to Britain and South Africa. It was estimated to take nearly a year to fully meet the requirements of the traty given the extensive nature of 90% of the islands fortifications, artillery and everything made redundant by the Mexican guarantee to uphold the security in the region. Likewise, the extensive ad-hoc defences thrown together such as minefields and the fortified beaches would be carefully dismantled and the minefields intricately combed until zero landmines would be left for some careless child or a tourist to step on.

It would be a long, expensive year, but not as expensive as a war.

‘Ms President, with respect, if you took a tour of British overseas territories in the Caribbean, you would find the same high quality of life, healthcare and education as here in London. Whilst the Spanish are content to allow Cuba to tear itself to pieces, Britain has been a stabilising force in the Caribbean on the islands that fly our flag that is. It is only with this crisis that we have been obliged to commit large numbers of men and machines of war to the region to defend our interests. His Majesty does not want war with the Americas, but he is hesitant to allow Britain to be removed from territory it has held for centuries and have finally managed to correct the mistakes of past British government by giving something back to those who lost so much. Are you a woman of compromise for the greater good Ms President?’ finished Postlethwaite politely, keeping his tone polite with zero hint of British stiff upper lip or bigotry.

"Centuries that involved the enslavement of men from Africa and rife poverty throughout the Caribbean. Excellency, times are changing, and the new American powers cannot permit British and any European excursions into our territory. For that we must ask and rather kindly demand you withdraw. I am one for compromise, but not when sovereign people are at stake

...with Jamaica, I cannot stress enough that Britain must evacuate, the island is home to a significant population and the reasons for Britain's arrival, from my perspective are shaky at best. I will not budge on Jamaica, if the rumors are true of a disastrous government there, Mexico will handle it and provide support."

‘Jamaica was a pecular one I will concede. As for a disasterous Government, it no longer exists. When we moved onto the island, the Kingston regime was butchered by revolutionary elements within the Government. At the moment it is undergoing elections to form a free and democratic Government and its Police force has just been inaugerated. It even has representation in parliament, or rather will do in the near future. However, lets say for arguments sake, that Britain did evacuate Jamaica, what of our other overseas territories in the Americas?

"If Britain evacuated Jamaica, Mexico would take that as a gesture of goodwill and we would be willing to allow Britain to hold smaller islands, specifically as those in the Windward Isles. However, if Britain is to remain in our territory, then His Majesty's Government must agree to the removal of air and naval garrisons and permit only two battalions of men

...on any of the specific islands. Mexico and the American nations will take it as our duty to defend these island populations in conjunction with the British. But you will not be allowed any form of power projection in the Caribbean. Further, if Britain's government collapses, the islands go to a Mexican protectorate. I have plans to make a Greater American

‘Such wording in any document would be akin to castration Ms President. Whilst I am authorised to make such an agreement, it would be best if it was written down differently. For example if His Majesty as a gesture of good will and respect towards Mexico ordered the withdrawal of Royal Navy and RAF assets, as well as a reduced military presence by the army to an undisclosed size.’

‘Ms President, one more thing I must request for Britains compliance with this agreement is a non-aggression pact between our states. Dishonour is far worse than defeat and I would dread to think what would happen if one of us broke the agreement.’

As troops and equipment were removed from the Caribbean, the 4th Army would be re-deployed to Africa with the Kings German Legion to garrison British islands in the Atlantic and the mainland South Africa. The network of fortifications along the frontier of South Africa would be bolstered by the re-deployment of heavy guns and more soldiers to work on the slowly expanding network of military bases in the region. The rationale for such a deployment was the mobilisation of Duisternis military forces. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd wolfpacks would likewise be deployed to the South Atlantic.

More permenant static fortifications would be made ready for construction on a scale not seen outside of Europe. A model based on the maginot, it would be between twelve and sixteen miles deep in places with multiple levels of defence and would run the entire length of the border to prevent any flanking movements by a potentially hostile force. When completed it would be more than enough to defend South Africa from any invader coming from the North.

A roving diplomatic envoy from the Empire of Duisternis would arrive in South Africa's capital city bearing a request that he be allowed to meet with the ruling governor or whoever else was in charge for the British Empire to discuss the developing situation in the African sphere.

The massive coastal guns taken from the caribbean would reach Britain in over the course of several weeks and the process of installing them in the fortifications running along Britains south coast and in paticular the strait of dover, though many of the guns would find themselves in land covering beaches and other potential landing areas for a hostile force.

Within three years it would be complete, Britains 'atlantic wall', which in depth and heavily defended fortifications would stretch around the British coast from Liverpool to Hull to protect the south coast. Made up of artillery, machineguns, casemates, pillboxes, anti tank guns and anti air emplacements. Likewise,  stockpiles and distribution systems would be developed to rapidly lay down minefields and other static defensive objects such as tank traps and hedghogs in 'vunerable' areas.

The system of Sea Forts that had been under construction in the English channel, North Sea and river esturies were proceeding at an excellent pace and most of them were now complete and armed.

The standoff between the coalition of european states, Spain and Italy had now been on going for several weeks. All British forces had moved into position by now and the continual work on the defences of Britain and its territories was proceeding at a good pace. In South Africa, five mechanized divisions would being assembing on the borders of the Duisternian province of Rhodesia. A further five infantry divisions would move east towards St.Lucia.

The vast lines of defence stretching across Africa were slowly coming together, creating a network of artillery, machineguns, minefields, hard and soft fortified positions that were miles deep. With this work proceeding as planned, an armoured division supported by an infantry division would move into the territory of 'Lesotho' and 'Swaziland. Resistance was expected to be heavy.

The forces massing on the border of Rhodesia would begin their deployment north into the country and would proceed right through the country into Zambia, Malawi and Tanzania. Two divisions would stop in Tanzania and Malawi each, leaving the fifth division to secure Tanzania.

Malawi and Zambia, being former provinces of Duisternis were already ready for the handover of power and with the military forces were attached hundreds of civilian administrators who would begin the process of intergration with the rest of the Empire including currency, security and local Government. Provincial Government would for the first few years be administered by the colonial government service who would, when the time was right, start the process of organising elections for a native Government aswell as selecting a Governer General for the two provinces from the small army of bureaucrats.

Tanzania was once a free state so when the British division began crossing its borders, the native people began rallying together to create a large army of Sukuma warriors. Armed with little more that spears and old rifles, they would present little challenge to the highly trained British forces and the firepower.  The British would sieze the town of Mbeye with no bloodshed. Like South Africa, the commanding officer would begin establishing fortifications around the town and arranging supply depots and the construction of a large military base to house the soldiers until the next stage of the campaign could begin.
