PresidentDavid
For the first time in two weeks the Irish sky was clear of clouds and thundering storms. The crisp air rushed from east to west in a steady breeze that most everyone preferred to the rain. This Act of God could not have come at a more opportune time for it was a historic day for all of Ireland. Exiting were the constant squabbles and unorganized chaos which drained the minds of those in Irish politics - now came a new order, one that would be centralized with stability and power but intended to rule wisely and use force only when necessary. Aaron Fitzgerald, King of the province of Lienster, was chosen through an assembly of all of the chiefs of Ireland, was sworn allegiance to by the other three kings of the island, and was affirmed by the Roman Catholic Church after years of political turmoil and violence as the High King of Ireland. Ireland is a unique place in the world for many reasons, but especially because of the many different types of government it experienced over its history. A powerful, centralized government is what it needed most now though, because unity is what almost everyone in Irish government was striving for. A united Ireland under one flag and one central High King. Aaron Fitzgerald now had the fate of his fellow countrymen in his hands and had the immense task of bringing together a people torn by war, hunger, a political corruption. A booming crowd chattered outside of St. Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin. A small wooden podium was riddled with several microphones which lead to radio broadcasts that would bring the words of the speaker around all of Ireland. A younger man quickly walked up to the podium and waited for the crowd to die down. "Fellow Irishmen, it is my humble honor to present to you High King Aaron Fitzgerald, Protector of The Island." The crowd erupted into joyful cheering. Men and women from all four corners of Ireland converged to this once place to support one man - something that had not happened for centuries and perhaps never before with such national unity. Aaron opened the doors to the cathedral and stepped outside to the podium in a surprise entrance. To put it simply, he was a dapper High King. His hair was combed neatly, he sported a rich-black suit with a green tie and an orange sash with green trimming which took the place of the crown which was reserved to be used rarely. That Sunday afternoon all of Ireland stood still. Villagers traveled for miles to reach relatives or friends with a radio. Men huddled together and smoked their pipes while children played outside in a new united Kingdom. The crowd cheered for a lengthy amount of time. It was an abundance of celebration that finally everyone could rally for one man. That domestic squabbles were not the priority but instead rebuilding and communicating with the rest of the world was now an actual option. It was nothing short of a miracle. The crowd was getting more quiet to a low rumbling murmur until Aaron shouted, "We are united!" More cheering and flag waving of the tri-color came for dozens more seconds. "I am humbled by your support, people of this united island. Here in front of Saint Patrick's Cathedral, a place of almost a millennium of history, we mark the beginning of unity and the end of muddy discourse. I thank God for this point we have come to, but we are not done yet. We are blessed to have the tools to make a functioning Kingdom with a strong economy and rich culture, but before we get those things we must act instead of argue. We must put theory into practice. We must actually change the status quo and step out of the shade and into the sun. "My cabinet and I will begin putting into place acts which shall bring down unemployment in the urban areas, offer assistance to farmers in the south and west, and unite the country not only politically but also through communication via the radio. I will also work with the Church to reach out to the poor in our cities and our rural areas who are struggling to feed their children and themselves. We have more to come and plenty of work to do, but today we are going to celebrate our unity... Erin go bragh!" "Erin go bragh!" shouted the crowd back in near unity. Fitzgerald waved to the crowd and then walked back into the Cathedral, followed by a few soldiers who stood ground behind him. After months of deliberation, Ireland was United.
