Communications to the Principality of Tikal

To our southern neighbors in the Principality of Tikal,

With the founding of the Confederacy of America we find ourselves welcomed but diplomatically alone. We would like to begin to immediately rectify this and as such we would like to request a diplomatic meeting between our two nations at the earliest convenience to the Principality. If this is acceptable to yourselves then please let us know if you would like to travel to our capital of Chihuahua or if you would prefer our diplomat to travel to a city of your choosing in your own territory.

Thank you,

President Joseph C. Frank

"Mister President,

His Highness is willing to visit you in your capital of Chihuahua. He will travel to your capital in 3 days, accompanied by 4 personal guards and 56 personal servants."

By the authority vested in me by Their Sublime Highnesses
Director of Diplomacy,
Clemente Marroquín Rojas
Principality of Tikal

______________

Precisely three days later, the Principal Concorde arrived at the capital's airport, bringing its most important passengers to the new nation.

The Principal Concorde would be warmly welcomed at the capital's airport and the important passengers would be met by the President at the base of the aircraft steps as they got off. The President would introduce them to the Vice President and other members of his staff before guiding them to a series of waiting limousines. The President would enter the first one expecting his Highness and any other important members of the Highness' group to join him while the Vice President would entertain the rest of the guests in the other car. Once everyone was settled the cars would leave for the Presidential building where the actual meeting would be taking place, for now his Highness and his party would be treated to a roadside tour of the capital city where the President would be open to any less formal talks his Highness wished to have.

Only a select few servants would accompany the Prince to the meeting aside from the Guards, the rest staying with the Concorde. The short meeting with the VP and various staff went well, with no surprises, while the trip with the Limousine would go mostly silently, other than the Prince listening to whatever the President had to say. He himself didn't have anything to say at the time, though he was curious about the new nation, its values and what it would look like in a few years. There had been some entities lasting mere days, after all. He hoped the Confederacy was not one such nation.

With the journey passing quietly and without trouble it would not be long before the small diplomatic convoy would arrive at the Presidential building. If his Highness had expected some sort of grand palace or other such fancy building he would unfortunately be disappointed as the Presidential building appeared to be a simple town hall from the outside which would be reinforced when the group was taken inside, the entire party would pass by a number of offices and other areas where government employees of both genders and mixed races went about the busy work of running and maintaining a city and a nation.

They would end up in a medium sized assembly room where a long table had been prepared for everyone to sit at, President Frank would gesture for his Highness to take a seat opposite him and would politely wait for him and the rest of his party to take their seats before he and his own would take theirs. A short break was called where refreshments would offered and delivered if such were asked for before they moved straight on to business.

"Your Highness," said President Frank starting the talks, "thank you for coming on such short notice to the Confederacy. I hope it did not cause too much trouble for yourself or your nation. As a newly awakened nation it is important that the Confederacy solidify its diplomatic policies and relations with our neighbors and the Principality is such one. I hope that by the end of this meeting we will at least have gotten to know about each other and our respective nations better and to at least plan for future relations beyond today."

A town hall being used wasn't too surprising, considering that the provinces had, to the Prince's knowledge, not hosted a grand capital or anything of the sort previously. Still, modesty was a good trait, perhaps one that the Confederacy might keep.

Once in the meeting room, he chose simply water to drink.

"It was no trouble, Mister President. I am glad that the Confederacy rose when it did - we were contemplating on integrating the lands you are in, but now it is no longer needed, with your centralised government uniting the three regions.

"Now, anyways. What would you be looking for in the Confederacy's and Tikal's mutual relationship?"

"Honestly I am looking for assurances of security, luckily for us we did not encounter any problems when sections of Sinaloa announced they wished to become a part of the Confederacy however, we have no idea what further plans for the land the Empire of Palaven has. That is something we intend to find out soon enough for now though I would like to know what it would take for the Principality to possibly make an announcement guaranteeing the Confederacy's independence? This wouldn't be a request for supporting us in any aggressive conflicts not that we have any desire to start any such conflicts anyway, but more that if some other nation felt that they wished to take our land or resources for themselves then we could hope to call on the Principality to help ensure that that doesn't happen?"

"I know this is a very big and important request when we do not know much about each other but what we do know is that the Principality is strong, stable and most importantly well known in the Americas. In return the Confederacy can help provide the Principality with a large amount of raw resources from our mining industry if you so require it?"

What do you think your Highness?"

"A guarantee of independence could be arranged, yes." The Prince nodded, smiling slightly. "Though I honestly doubt that anyone would attack you, unless your diplomatic corps went around and insulted every nation on the face of the planet," he added with a chuckle.

"In terms of resources, Tikal obtains the vast majority of its needs from extraterrestrial sources - asteroids, to be precise. These operations yield enough that we'll be able to sustain our current growth for a very long time, even if no new sources were accessed. So unfortunately, we don't have much need for the products of your mining industry - nevertheless, I would be glad to provide some subsidies for industries further down the branch, refining resources or creating products, to help your economy grow and strengthen. There is one place I'd like Tikal to have unrestricted and sole access to, though - if you don't mind, that is. The Cave of the Crystals, near the mining town of Naica. Could that be arranged?"

President Frank replied with his own chuckle as he spoke. "Perhaps that is true but just to be on the safe side having that guarantee would put many of us here at ease. As for the Cave of Crystals I see no problem with such an arrangement. After opening the cave system we have sent nobody inside to explore as the lack of equipment makes it impossible for any of our explorers to be in for longer than ten minutes and we really don't want to damage the crystals themselves. So yes Tikal can have unrestricted and sole access to the cave just be careful with the crystals okay".

"I can promise you that Tikal will treat the Cave almost reverently, Mr. President. We won't be damaging anything, and our explorers should be able to stay for a little longer. As for the guarantee of independence, I'll have an announcement made once I return home, if that is alright with you?"

"Certainly your Highness, again you have my and my people's gratitude. I do have one more piece of business to ask about before you leave however, we intend to build a state wide rail network here in the Confederacy and I was wondering if the Principality would welcome a link or two to our rail network across our national borders. This would hopefully better connect our two nations and ensure future ease if or when we transport goods or people across. What do you think your Highness?"

"Connecting our rail networks might be somewhat difficult, as Tikal mainly uses maglev lines instead of classic rails. But it would certainly be possible for us to finance construction of appropriate lines into the Confederacy, allowing for transport or good to be streamlined somewhat. How about that?"

"That sounds more than reasonable to me, we could have a series of stations built in the South that can run regular rails to the North into the rest of the Confederacy and have maglev lines run to the South into the Principality. Well now that we have that settled is there anything else I can help you with before you have to return to the Principality your Highness?"

"I believe that would be all for the time being. Thank you for your time, Mister President. I quite enjoyed my stay here, short as it may be." With this, the Prince stood and shook President Frank's hand, he and his entourage leaving a few hours later.

Two days later, a public announcement was made by the Prince and the Princess that the Confederacy of America's independence would be guaranteed by the Principality - any who attacked it would be treated as having attacked the Principality directly.

Perhaps a week later, construction of rail lines would begin, starting at Tikal's border cities and moving northwards.

Still a week after that, a sizeable team of scientists and researchers from Tikal, accompanied by some troops as guards, travelled north to the Cave of the Crystals to set up camp and begin their research into the caves. Some equipment had been brought by them, though it was possible that they needed more at a later time. If so, they'd request it from home.

Also, if I do anything in your country that you don't like, please notify me by PM. I'll edit appropriately - even if I made the offending post in my main thread. /OOC]
