The Holy See of Mainz

With the destruction of Rome and Vatican City, along with the majority of the Cardinals, the Catholic world was in shock. The center of the Church since the split with Constantinople had been completely destroyed after having to suffer the dishonor of annexation by the Milanese. The Bishop of Mainz, Eduard Gerstle, has been given the power by the remnant of the Catholic Church in Saxony to declare himself Primas Germaniae and elevate his title to that of Archbishop, transforming the Diocese of Mainz into an Archdiocese once again.

 

Additionally, it has been declared that the Holy See of Mainz will be elevated to Patriarchate status, with Eduard given ecclesiastical authority over the whole of the country's Catholic population. This has been confirmed by the new Landtag, making the Saxon Catholic Church the legal successor to the Catholic Church in Saxony. He has contacted Bishops throughout the world, asking them and their followers to recognize his legitimacy and to not only recognize his legitimacy and continue to be in communion with the Catholic Church in Saxony, but to create Patriarchates of their own and exchange delegates to give rebirth to a decentralized global Catholic governance.

 

Correspondence has also been sent to both Carthage and Yugoslavia, asking their permission to rebuild the Vatican and assume administrative and ecclesiastical authority independent of either state in collaboration with Saxon authorities. They have additionally requested permission to seize any property left behind by the Catholic Church on behalf of global Catholics, and to store it in Mainz until it can be redistributed to diocese in communion, or placed inside/used in the rebuilding of Vatican city.
