Re-integrating Sri-lanka

Maelstrom Vortex

Recommended Posts

After a bit of letting the new Sri-Lankan government try to take root, it was discovered the leadership simply wasn't going to be up to the task of getting the people and the island organized. The Druk Yul Government asked them if they wanted it to take back over. They confirmed this, they felt the Druk Yul would give them a better quality of life.

The 2nd fleet returned to basing in Sri-Lanka. The civil police trained by Druk Yul returned to duty and the military stationed a small garrison there to keep the peace among minorities as representation was established. It would be a while before things settled down again. The upheavel of having and then lost their independence left many with a bitter taste.

The next day, Druk Yul officially took over for the faltering government peacefully. The new regional governor was installed and citizens began to register for voting and census.  It was overall a quite and somber occasion. Free food and drink were given out and the locals turned it into a small festival to pass the time. Merchants took advantage of all the people out for the census to sell their wares.

The work continued. ISPs restablished internet services through the Druk Yul commercial network and industry standards were re-applied. Medical services were re-integrated into the national health care system. Welfare and social security systems swapped control. Old flags were replaced by new ones and the military presence began to draw down as newly installed police began their patrols.

The Druk Yul presence was one again becoming common and as things settled down what little resistance there was to the re-integration was fading. Druk Yul had protected them and supported their bid for independence, they were really working for the people of Sri-Lanka so there was no reason for them to fight. The infrastructure improvements and the technology they brought were actually improving the quality of life on the island significantly.

With people now on voter rolls, elections would be held and public officials appointed to office. Things were quieting down. The economy was normalizing and the national currency reverted back to the Druk Yul Talon. A radar was put on the island to add it to the national defense grid and permanent defensive emplacements were stationed as well as a small garrison of troops recruited from local population. The Druk Yul national military presence began to trickle away.

Sri Lanka was practically Druk Yul once more, the economy had switched over. Banks were using the new currency. Government services had re-integrated Now it would only take time to heal over the wounds left by the abrupt shifts in control caused by the group that had tried its best at an independent government.

The small islands was becoming a popular tourist destination for Druk Yul citizens who were looking for warm, hospitable beaches. Several resorts soon established themselves. Maelstrom even arranged to stay there with his family for a couple of weeks to relax. The local government was enamored to have such a religious icon among them and did the best to preserve the peace he sought there among the calming waves of the Indian Ocean.

Sri Lanka finally convened a vote of its new founded public servants. It formally petitioned re-admission to the parliament of the Druk Yul people with its representatives filing papers in a public session of the chambers. The consent was nearly unanimous among both houses as many had been in the position of the Sri Lankans before with a failed state preceding them.

The new delegations were seated and the day's business began. Thew small island was, for the first time, a formal part of its neighbor and friend.

7/7 Sri Lanka integrated.
