And another Conference

(Probably last post until Sunday)

Hungary-Slovakia has no problem with diplomacy either.

Truthfully, we have been meaning to diplomacisize with Muscovy ourselves. While we are very leased with our port in Romania and grateful to Romania for granting us said port, we have also wanted for some time a second port, one up north in the Baltics, to help further trade to bolster Hungary-Slovakia's economy, and indirectly the rest of the Eastern Bloc's as well.

I have just been asked,to inform everyone here that there is to be a large 30 gun salute military funeral for the 50000 plus brave Hungarian soldiers that died either in the recent war or in the nukings.

Everyone in attendance here today is invited to it, for any who may wish to show their final respects to those who bravely gave their lives for their country.

"We shall send a delegation to honour the brave Magyars falling for Bloc interests.", Maria stated, for once not smiling.

"It may be useful to us, if we could maybe agree on an economic free trade zone within Eastern Europe. It is our opinion, that the economic level of our countries is about similar, that by opening up a common market, there be more chances for cooperation and a larger market for economies of scale, strengthening our respective economies. By possibly expanding this free trade zone to similarly-minded nations, in our opinion mainly countries like Yugoslavia, or maybe even Muscovy, there may be a chance to be able to better develop domestic capabilities to whither the storms of global economy and also it may contribute to peace and stability in the region, through economic cooperation, which may in turn lead to increased political cooperation."

Schëre bit her lip as she mused to herself. Economic treaties had become something of a norm for friends to sign, whether or not the economic impacts would be good for them. Something of an oversight by the decision makers, most likely, whom needed to be fired.

"What kind of goods can the nations of the Eastern Bloc provide? We ourselves largely export metals, cars, machinery... Whilst we import foods, oil/gas, the sorts. Similarly, what would you say the Purchasing Power Parity of your currencies are, compared to our Thaler?"

(OOC: Just got with 1 Thaler = 1 GBP)

While some might think this to be a thoughtless gesture of friendship, to Maria it was more than that. But noone questioned the rationale, so naturally, there was little reason to defend it.

"Romania most of all exports machinery and machine parts, agricultural products, mainly food, minerals and other raw ressources, chemical products, metal products and other heavy industry... Meanwhile, your Thaler is about 5.5 Romanian Lei."

"We would be more than happy to sign on to a Free Trade Agreement'"

"Belarus, like Romania, mainly specializes in producing machinery, chemicals, agriculture, and heavy industry. From our latest calculations, one Thaler would be about 10.2 BYR."

Ooc: For obvious reasons, My IC BYR is worth more than the irl one :P Edited by Mr Director

Hungary-Slovakia, too, would be happy to sign a Free Trade Treaty with Romania and Belarus, as well as with Prussia and Ukraine, should they desire to.

We would be happy to host such a conference in Debrecen In a day or so. All Bloc members, as well as our friends in Prussia, are welcome and invited.

Maria nodded. "Would the delegates want to discuss the matter of economy at our next meeting in Debrecen or at this one still? Also, it is our opinion, that the economic agreement best be handled as a common trade authority, establishing a single market in Eastern Europe, not only to make the region more competitive, but also to allow for stable economic planning and increase economic and political leverage of the Bloc overall."

"Could you please elaborate on what the policies and characteristics of a single market would be," asked Andreichenko, thinking about his nation's heavily state-owned economy.

"Sure.", Maria would state, nodding. "As it stands, we think that the greatest priority economically is not as much prosperity, than stability and a degree of autarky. Global trade relations can and will get disrupted by war, as can be seen in the recent spats between Persia and Japan. Meanwhile, our countries grow closer together and we think it'd be good to invest in a certain diversification, in order to compensate when the global market suddenly falls short. While this would mean that most likely, major investment and restructuring is necessary, to compensate in certain areas, if we take this burden upon us as an economic union, that might help create more favourable outcomes, while sharing costs... and risks. For this to work, I would think that there would need to be a common trade and planning board, which works on lining out common long-term trade plans, overarching industrial development plans and also possibly can interact with third parties economically."
