Sri Lanka

* * *

The heart of Sri Lanka is beating with the blood of independence. Two great Indian empires have risen and fallen in the aftermath of civilization, both with an iron grip over the island of Ceylon. In their wake, a great, fire-breathing Asian dragon breathed fire into the hearts of the troubled peoples of India. Under their guidance, our Tamil brothers on the continent will be strong under the crown of Everest.

Thirst for Independence

* * *

For us, however, lays a different path. The fate of Sri Lanka has landed squarely in the corner of independence. Following the long-held democratic traditions of the island which produced the longest-standing democracy in the history of Asia, the cities of Jaffna, Colombo, and even the suburb of the capitol building began to gather signatures for an official petition to the government of Druk Yul asking for independence. Along with it was sent a copy of the new constitution which they hoped would bind the island together. In it included provisions protecting individual rights and the freedom of worship, as well as promoting a tolerant multi-ethnic society. The nuclear program was to remain peaceful by constitutional decree, and the principles of democracy squirmed through the entire document like a thread, binding it together with universal suffrage. The peoples waited for an answer from their protectors, hopeful for a new light to shine in Asia.

A Country Reborn

* * *

There was dancing in the streets! The flag of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka would once again fly all over the island. A unified nation of Sinhalese, Tamils, and Europeans, practicing Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity. One people, one voice, under one flag, united in one democratic socialist republic. Today was truly a glorious day. Today, the rising sun of the east was seen in the skies of Jaffna. Today, a country was reborn. Edited by Hereno

"The Imperium of Japan welcomes another nation to the Indian Ocean, we look forward to working with you to ensure a peaceful and prosperous region together."

OOC: should have gone with the original idea, much cooler flag.

King Wangchuck made a statement, "Let the world be witness. We believe strongly in the spirit of SEATO. The Tamil have taken the initiative to form their nation and to govern themselves. We strongly encourage this divine right of all people to self rule among all our own. Though if by necessity they need the safety our culture and our strength can grant them, we will be here for them. Druk Yul is a nation for the people of Asia..and by the people of Asia.. however they wish that government shaped. Let no person fear oppression in our lands."

Moscow, Japan, Alexandria, Novak, UAR, Persia, Australia, and Druk Yul would all be formally thanked for their welcome and thoughts. Subsequently, the goals and mandate of SEATO would be praised.

In response to perceived interest, the governments of Japan, Novak, and Australia would be invited to Colombo (separately) for diplomatic talks.

The Persians would be thanked for their invitation. They would additionally be informed that the new Prime Minister would shortly be on their way to Persepolis, with light escort.
