Imperial Announcment

The Empire of New Babylon recognises a state of war with Milan after observing the escalating and deteriorating situation over Southern Italy. We will be removing Milans capability to wage war and remove its continued threat to the peace of the Mediterranean. Furthermore to these actions, we will sieze any Milanese ship in the Med, and will impose harsh economic sanctions, and if required, blockade on any state which trades openly, or trades covertly and is discovered with the Milanese state.

 

Operation Imperial Eagle

As the Imperial Fleet reached its final strength as it sailed past Milanese held Sardinia the operation was stalled. Satellites and high altitude reconnaissance discovered critical Italian positions vital to fighting an offensive war.

 

Short range ballistic missiles fired from the submarines on the ground and cruise missiles warships towards Sardinia with programmed targets gleaned from satellite analysis of Italian military facilities. The missile assault would focus on radar stations, military bases and other items of strategic importance like command and control centers and divisional HQ's along the whole island. Those missiles fired towards airbases and airports would carry a mixed payload of high explosive and cluster warheads with the aim of cratering any runways and causing massive damage to the housing of military equipment such as aircraft and ground formations. Munitions depots, fuel depots and arsenals would also be targeted by the enormous assault, which would strike across Sardinia from the south, all across the Island. Hundreds of missiles would be fired. Furthermore any italian warships would be targetted by submarine launched, supersonic sea skimming Harpoon block III missiles.

 

Second to this, the fleets cruisers and destroyers would launch their own attack comprised of sub sonic cruise missiles to saturate the more mobile forces of the Italian military infrastructure such as mobile anti air, radar units and static defences, as well as supplementing the first wave of missiles.

 

The missile barrages would be maintained as targets were identified by the fleets screen ships.

 

Aircraft from the carriers, primarily F-35C's and F-14++ jets would begin the massive first wave aerial assault to dominate Sardinian skies. With the F-14's primarily to dominate the skies from the carrier fleet, the F-35's would carry mixed payloads to assault ground targets. Military command and control, which had been identified with satellites, would be attacked mercilessly by JDAMs as well as any targets of opportunity, which presented themselves. Once the ground attack munitions had been expended, the F-35's would aid the F-14's in dominating the airspace, actively hunting down any Italian military aircraft, which made it into the air that is assuming it, could take off. Tornado ECR++ aircraft that would jam surviving enemy air defences and provide an EWAR assault on any enemy aircraft would supplement this air attack.

 

From Anatolia, hundreds of aircraft on readiness due to the preparations had begun filling the skies in waves to ensure complete and utter saturation of the enemy’s air and ground forces. Two squadrons of B-2's would begin SEAD operations using long-range air to surface missiles and smart bombs, these would be maintained for as long as required by rotating aircraft crews back on base. To support the B-2's SEAD operations and the deep strike missions being run by F-35's and the F-14's, two squadrons of Tu-160 supersonic bombers would operate on the same basis as the B-2; s, but using their speed to strike hard at Milans military infrastructure and military forces on the ground using payloads of long range air to surface missiles with HE and fragmenting warheads. Supplimenting the long ranges, mid air refuelers would be on station and requests would be sent to both Sparta and Carthage to allow Imperial air units permission to land and refuel wthin the respective nations, still unknowing how the two nations would respond themselves to such an offensive being launched

 

F-15E Silent Eagles would operate in the same role as the F-35 squadrons, only on a much larger scale. With eight squadrons of F-15's in the first few waves, their part in the aerial supremacy attack would be kept rolling with replacement squadrons from the reserve pools of aircraft. These would be supplemented by all five squadrons of A-10 II's to focus on enemy ground formations.

 

Six squadrons of Saab JAS 39 Gripens++, eight squadrons of Typhoons++ and three squadrons of F-22's++ would begin the second phase of the assault in tandem with the heavy SEAD operations, which would be the mission to dominate and destroy the Italian air force in its entirety across Sardinia. Supported by naval, land and air based radar systems, the fighters would systematically hunt down and wipe out any hostile aircraft they detected with overwhelming force and aggression. The massive reserve pool for continually rolling SEAD and AA operations to cover the ground assaults would sustain this.

 

In addition to the aerial assault, preperations began for a massive amphibious operations. Using the fleets four Armageddon Class Amphibious Assault Ships and three Apocalypse Class Helicopter Carrier, Imperial Marines began the journey to the coastline of Sardinia.

 

The ground assault would come from the MEU's situated with the fleets comprised of forces of the Imperial Marine Corps. These forces, would deploy from helicopters to secure Alghero L'Alguer, Oristano Artistanis and Cagliari Casteddu,  towns which would be covered by the massive aerial assault taking place overhead. It would be under the covering firepower of the air force that would allow the landing ships to get close into the towns seafronts and begin deploying armoured forces from hovercrafts and more heavy infantry from AAV's.

 

The Marines mission in these towns would be to secure local weaponry and the local Government as well as establish a fortified beachead and forward HQ. All armed resistance would be wiped out as and when encountered, with the use of aggressive tactics, light artillery support and armoured vehicles in the form of the M33-A3 Marine Battle Tank, MT-41A2 Infantry Fighting Vehicle and the M-102 Armoured Personnel Carrier, not to mention a host of smaller, lighter armoured vehicles.

 

Advance elements of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Commando regiments would spearhead attacks to secure any military installations in the area. The remaining Marine forces would stay in the three towns, fortifying and consolidating the positions until new orders were received whilst seeking out and destroying any and all resistance. Providing overall support of this operation would be several AC-130 gunships which would be protected by the vast number of air forces dominating the sky. Forward air controllers with the ground units would call in air strikes as and when necessary.

 

Overall battle command would be observed by live satellite data links, J-STARS and AWACS, and response from the Italians in terms of a counter offensive would be detected and quashed with overwhelming aerial force and missile bombardment.

Alexandria is appalled by Babylon's use of violence in this dispute. Their blatant aggressive and expansionist policy on that side of the Mediterranean, when not needing to step in at all, is duly noted.

 

As such, Aidennic Alexandria would like to formally inform Babylon that, pending the grace period, (OOC: 72 hours IRL iirc) the treaty between our two states is now considered null and void.

 

In the interests of keeping the Mediterranean a safe, and stable environment for trade and prosperity, Alexandria officially condemns Babylonian involvement in the region, and stresses to the Milanese and Spartans to seek diplomatic reconciliation.

Operation Riposte- Phase 1

 

The opening salvos of the Babylonian attack were to be joined with a Sicilian response. The 1st and 2nd CVBGs were already posted to the Western shores of Sicily and troops of five Sicilian Divisions had already been loaded. Orders were sent and a massive strike group of aircraft began forming up over Sicily consisting of 120 aircraft. The leading wave of B-2 bombers were ordered into the air and to begin forming up over the waters of the Mediterranean over the heads of the Sicilian Navy. Two Sicilian submarines carrying a full complement of cruise missiles were ordered to put to sea as well. Once these preparations were completed as defined by all units being properly in position, Operation Riposte would move into Phase 2.

Despite the fact that Babylon is an honored ally of Persia, we do not agree with the presented casus belli. As such, we urge both parties to sit down without preconditions to discuss a peaceful solution to the afromentioned problem.
