Conflict in Asia

OOC: Closed to those involved in the possible looming conflict in Asia between Amur, Amur's allies and IMPERIAL RUSSIA.

IC:

Imperial Russian forces was made up of fifty thousand soldiers equipped with small arms, squad support weapons and light anti-tank weapons along with a few anti-aircraft man portable launchers. Of these fifty thousand thirty thousand was in the front lien positions currently hastily digging trenches across from the Amur border with one hundred main battle tanks in support. The other twenty thousand soldiers of the battle force was deployed behind the front line positions, these men were also hastily digging trenches or were setting up light, medium and heavy mortar pieces. With these men was the towed artillery howitzers who had accompanied the force as fire support. Scattered across the whole area of Imperial occupation were numerous mobile anti-aircraft systems for protection from aerial attack. A small area had also been cleared and turned into a makeshift system of helipads for the accompanying attack helicopters to land, refuel and rearm at as required.

For now no offensive actions had been taken against the Amur border itself the Imperial Russian troops more focused on digging in and preparing than anything else.

The Druk Yul troops across the border just yawned and shook their heads. This was the most defensive offensive they had ever seen. "What are they doing?" One soldier asked his Lt. "This makes no sense for an offensive."

The offider responded, "Probably attempting to defend their lines of supply and logistics.  Decent attempt but there are means of circumventing their foritifcations."

The Druk Yul forces had deployed an expansive mine field just in front of the border.. for which only they and their allies had maps. It included some intelligent area defense systems. and the mines had had their circuits carefully shielded.

The first Druk Yul Armored Corps ran drills just behind the front and out of sight of the enemy.. preparing for the need to counter a mobile offensive. For now.. no jamming was being utilized as no hostile action had yet been taken. The high command was taking account of every unit that showed up on the active sensor grid and the location of the enemy's stokcpiles and aviation support pads.

Back at the Command Center.. Dread Space remarked, "I love how the enemy in its movements lets us know exactly where they keep everything. Good thing we don't have to move. Good thing these are our satellites. They keep making these important intelligence errors and this is going to be a very quick fight."

A Druk Yul sentry would heckle across the border, "You're outnumbered like.. 3 to 1.. spare yourselves the humiliation and tuck your tails like whipped pups and scurry on home will ya?" He was drunk. An officer promptly stole the megaphone and beat him over the head with it and sent him for push-ups and assigned him to MP duties for breaking protocol and consuming alcohol on the front.

ADF assets would move to support the Druk Yul forces.  10,000 ADF soldiers, equipped with a modest support corps of 25  BTR-80 APC's (these had been in production and were being sent straight from the factory to the forward defensive lines).  The soldiers of the ADF would be hastily equipped with AK-74's as a standard infantry rifle, with RPK light machine guns, PK multi-purpose machine guns, and Dragunov SVD sniper rifles in limited numbers to supplement the specialization of roles where it could be managed.

10,000 more soldiers would remain in Harbin, but would be actively prepared to move out and supplement the front defensive lines.  the remaining 10,000 would be divided equally to bolster the Kirin Republic's borders along Heilongjiang and the northern border of the Primorsky Republic.  29,740 soldiers were being put through training and would soon be able to supplement existing ADF numbers.

General Zhao coordinated the use of Druk Yul combat data for dissemination to various troop commanders throughout the ADF.  This would allow for better force coordination and make sure that ADF personnel had access to combat data gathered on the Imperial Russian forces.

The Druk Yul sentry would promptly be ignored as the Imperial Russian soldiers were too busy either on over watch or helping to prepare the defensive fortifications. However, small two man teams of scouts would be pushed forward from the Russian positions, equipped with basic recon gear such as binoculars and such they would do little to hide themselves knowing that even before they left the Russian positions they would have been detected. The scouts would not advance too far forward from their side but it would be enough for them to scope out the border and to see the fact that a mine field had been laid down in front of them. Though they could not see exactly how large or deep the minefield was they were able to make a rough guess and would continue to occupy forward observation positions whilst they scoped out the Amur border and the units stationed within sight of it.

In orbit an imperial Russian military spy satellite was tasked with moving its position to over the front line and to maintain a geo-synchronous orbit at all times to give the Imperial Russian high command eyes down from above.

The tracking station at Pathein reported to Space Com, "We have an unidentified object in the combat space near UAR. Appears manmade from ground observation. No identifier sqwak and broadcasting encoded coms."

In orbit.. a Druk Yul satellite dropped a very small payload into its own orbital path.. setting idle at the moment, ready for commands. It was what was known in layman's terms as a "kinetic kill vehicle". But really just amounted to  a metal rod with a truster attatched with on board guidance. It was in a prepped state and waiting orders.

Meanwhile Lee would work with Amur generals and officers to better deploy his force of 50,000 troops around key areas in their country. While the forces of Druk Yul attempt to stop them from crossing the border Lee would make sure his men were ready in interior parts of the country in case the Russian forces made it that far. Shanghai's forces specializaed in urban warfare more than open battlefields and would be better suited to defending important cities than fighting on the frontlines. They knew that the Russian forces were outnumbered and even if they did try to go low enough to use nukes or something like that he knew that were some other nations that wouldn't hesitate to wipe Russia off the map should they try to use them. He would keep the Shanghai Air Force on standby until the war started if it ever did.

To Whom It May Concern,

I am grateful for your public support of our sovereignty against the threats of the Russian Empire.  If you plan to use military force, we are more than willing to cooperate with your forces and assist in whatever way we can.  I still hold hope that the threats of force from our neighbors will be enough to stave off the Russians before any fighting can take place.  However, if worst comes to worst, and you intend to use force, I would be happy to coordinate with the proper Japanese officials.

The scout teams had seen enough, they turned away from the Amur border and retreated back into the basic fortifications that had been set by the Imperial Russian soldiers. The information they had obtained plus the images that came in from the orbiting satellite allowed them to map out the basic positions of the enemy soldiers across the Amur border. These positions would then be passed along to the commanders in charge of the artillery weapons and to the mortar teams who would take this information and carefully but quickly realign the barrels of the weapons. Whilst this was happening the soldiers and tankers of the Russian forces prepared themselves for imminent combat, some prayed, some wished their comrades luck and others just remained quiet.

At once the signal was given, the howitzers of the Russian artillery opened up on the hostile positions across the border from them in one massive bombardment. The bombardment used three different shell types to achieve different effects. The first shell type was the standard high explosive round, the second was a timed high explosive shell that would detonate a second or two after punching into the ground whilst the third was a flechette shell which would burst apart in the air above the target and send a hail of metal darts scything down, this should do little damage to equipment but crews and soldiers caught out in the open would hopefully be shredded.

At the same time as the artillery bombardment the mortar teams began a rolling barrage across the enemy minefield, it was hoped that the impacts on and in to the ground would detonate some if not most of the enemy mines or at least damage or disrupt them enough to make them useless. As this barrage rolled forwards to join the one coming from the artillery the soldiers of Imperial Russia moved out from their defensive positions at the same time that their armour rolled forward in support. The soldiers advanced in teams with plenty of individual spacing to help reduce losses to enemy direct fire and enemy artillery.

The attack helicopters that had accompanied the battle force rose from their helipads and moved to take up positions further back from the actual battlefield positions, it was here that they would use a pop out, pop in tactic by lifting above or around a piece of blocking terrain for a few seconds acquire a target, launch a single hellfire missile or short burst of cannon fire and dart back behind cover to avoid any enemy counter fire.

The assaulting infantry and tanks would attempt to cross what should, they hoped, be a neutralised or at least diminished enemy minefield and close in on the enemy positions. Any surviving infantry and tanks that managed to make it across  would work together to engage enemy positions with the tanks and at least one team of infantry providing suppression fire whilst another team would move up and attempt to engage the enemy position with grenades and close quarters weapons fire if possible.

Classified to Shanghai, Druk Yul, and Japanese Commanders

Commanders, we have been engaged. Use the Amur. They are attempting to advance. They will have to use what few bridges there are, or build their own. These should give us the necessary defensive choke points we need. Those will be the areas ADF personnel will look to fortify. Destruction of the bridges is acceptable.

A broadcast was heard over all radio bands from a deep booming voice that sounded inhuman in nature. Dread Space spoke from afar, "May your Gods have mercy on you for your sins.. for we shall have none."

Tactical high energy lasers in multiple batteries mounted to mobile units intercepted the artillery fire. A few got through.. intentionally disregarded and allowed to pass as they were destined towards hardened targets. At the same time.. MRLS missile batteries would use artillery locating radar to pinpoint the battery positions and counter the battery fire beginning the process of rapid extermination of the russian artillery force. The mine field the russians would discover to their chagrin had its own THEL battery protective cover shielding it and keeping at least half of the mines fully functional even as their own artillery was even being shelled.

In space, the KKV recieved its orders to lock onto the Russian Military satellite. The engines fired as it would move to attempt to kill the overhead intelligence asset of the Russian Imperial forces giving them indirect eyes on the ground. As soon as the shelling began, any forward deployed scouts would find themselves being fired upon by snipers from within a half a mile range on distance hill tops and roof tops.

With the first incoming hostile shell Druk Yul had hit the fire button on every pre-targeted asset. Most Russian helicopters probably wouldn't even leave the pads as their clearly visible arrangement from space would guide in missiles straight to the point where they were taking off. Anyone approaching the mine field would be rewarded with a hail of machine gun fire from bunkers.....

In the mean time, their tanks would roll from behind the lines and their own artillery would open up. From mobile launchers far distant, ares missile assets targeted the bridges behind the lines of the Russian forces destroying them. Now the Russians would have to either air-drop supplies on the Siberian steppes or find a way to get them across the water without being able to use continuous roads.

Then the air forces arrived. DYS-1-A (B1-A equivalent) bombers traveling at mach 3 and escorted by YF-12i (SR 71 interceptor variant) flew over the air field. A few of the interceptors broke off to down the close air support of the Russians getting the aggrevating choppers out of the air. Most remained on escort of the DYS-1-A, which began to drop cluster bomb munitions across the Russian lines along the column of troops and vehicles. A YF-12J flew far overhead... misdirecting missiles and providing general jamming in the area. Every radar frequency except those used by friendly forces would be filled with white noise.

The F-22s and F-35s seemed to just magically appear as if out of nowhere and would engage any other Russian fighters or bombers that might appear. Meanwhile, a dispersed radar network operating on multiple bands kept an eye out for enemy stealth aircraft.

In the close air support role, Druk Yul didn't field  much in they way of helicopters. There were  a few apache equivalents, but the vast majority were Predator variant drones that were hard to target or locate in all the jamming. Hellfire missiles would seem to scream out of nowhere and detonate in the fields, sometimes killing a tank.

From over the horizon, AGM-88 HARM missiles seemed to come out of nowhere and just utterly wreck enemy active radar stations on the ground.

If the aircraft didn't own the choppers, then the blowpipe infantry in the front trenches would prove an equally menacing problem for the helos as missiles seemed to scream from every few hundred feet of the bunker system.

It was a bloody mess on both sides, but Druk Yul believed that it and its allies had the upper hand because it was fully ready to totally poke the enemy's eyes out and blind them. If the THEL or any of the Druk Yul systems were blinded by enemy counter measures, they were fully ready to toggle to optical and ir systems. Then, to top it all off, one DYS-1-A dropped a MOAB just in front of the mine field where russian troops had started to gather to attempt a crossing and to disarm the remaining mines.

Druk Yul forces were moved to Defcon 3.

Estimated total casualties in initial 10 minute engagement: 10 dead, 30 injured. 3 tanks incapacitated, 1 MRLS loss due to weapons malfunction, 2 drones destroyed, estimated 10 cruise missiles utilized for the rear area bridges. 1 KKV expended of 12, 2 per gps sat.

When the mobile laser batteries first opened fire on the incoming artillery barrage the Russian commanders were stunned and hurriedly began to look back through all their observation reports and found that not one scout or the observation satellite in orbit had spotted such vehicles in the area. Said satellite was swiftly destroyed by the kinetic kill vehicle launched against it the pieces falling away to burn up in orbit. When the few shells reported to get through hit fortified bunkers it was another nasty shock to the Russian commanders, yes the journey had taken a few hours but it should never have been enough time to build proper bunker positions. When the rockets from the Druk Yul MRLS came roaring in and started tearing apart the Russian artillery positions a fair few of the commanders loudly cursed the pathetic attempt to recon by their recon forces and threw away the so called observation reports as these again undetected units attacked them.

Most of the Russian helicopters had managed to get off of their helipads before the Druk Yul missiles struck, the quicker time needed to straight up launch and fall into covered positions helping them versus the time needed to acknowledge the incoming Russian fire, launch the missiles and the travel time to the target. However, a few slower helicopter crews paid with their lives and were destroyed as were almost all of the helipads and the equipment surrounding them. When the Druk Yul air force turned up they would have no helicopters to actually shoot at as by this time the offensive had already been deemed a failure and they were all busy withdrawing back towards Imperial Russian bases further to the rear.

The ground offensive quickly faltered upon encountering the much stronger remaining strength of the minefield soldiers attempting to cross it were blown apart as mines detonated under their feet and tanks began to explode and burn as anti-tank mines took them out. Within a handful of minutes the attack halted and bogged down and as the dust and smoke cleared from the mortar barrage the remaining soldiers and tanks began to withdraw under fire from enemy bunkers and missiles forces sustaining more losses. Returning to their fortifications they did not stop the retreat having become a full rout. Supplies and the dying and wounded were left behind the only thought being of personal survival. Most of the commanders stayed to the last to ensure their men got out with a few paying for this with their lives.

When the MOAB was dropped it caused horrific fatalities among the retreating soldiers shocking and terrifying the surviving soldiers into retreating even faster. Their commanders were just as horrified one man newly promoted to his command post reduced to tears when the broken and battered bodies of the men under his command came into view.

The Russian anti aircraft batteries had been trying everything in their power to counter the appearance of the Druk Yul air force and drones but even with what should have only been a small technology gap they were overwhelmed yet they fought tooth and nail. Pumping out missile after missile against the Druk Yul air force and drones even as the radar seeking missiles came in and tore apart each mobile SAM one after another. The few survivors that attempted to escape by disabling their radars and withdrawing would be disheartened to learn their heroic efforts had only managed to down two predator drones.

With the surviving elements of the battle force now in full retreat news of the defeat was brought back to the Emperor by a messenger sent by the Russian High Command. The messenger feared for his life as the Emperor raged and swore but ultimately the messenger was spared as the Emperor did not believe in shooting the messenger and the members of the High Command were also spared instead being ordered to get the surviving men and equipment back to the Russian Empire and to not engage any enemy forces unless required to facilitate the withdrawal of surviving forces.

Lee had moved his command center next to the Druk Yul one so he could witness the Druk Yul display of force in stopping the Russian advance and sending them home in tears. Lee had also moved some of his men closer to the frontline so he could reinforce the Druk Yul lines if needed

"I think the Russians and just about everyone else will now think twice before trying to attack us or one of our allies ever again. We should keep our men on alert in case they try a much larger offensive but I think now would be a good time for Russia to surrender if they have any honor left at all."

The Front line commander remarked, "Never under estimate the power of camo nets and puting your heavy gear at its maximum effective range over a pre-determined point just ahead of your own front for a defensive engagement." He grinned. "Don't let your guard down soldiers. We can't be entirely certain this isn't just a ruse." They went back to their routines.. making sure their defence was ready.

The Russians were somewhat fortunate. The Druk Yul did not follow.

Surviving Russian forces would fall back to the established chain if supply bases to rest and recover. While the commanders gathered and began to work on a follow on plan the common soldiers had their wounds tended to and dealt with their own experiences and grief together and alone as each individual saw fit. The attack helicopters knowing they were horribly out classed were withdrawn all the way back to the homeland and returned to their respective bases. No further reinforcements would be brought up at this time.

Meanwhile back in the homeland still photos and images of the devastation wrought on the Imperial Russian troops was show with special attention given to the MOAB strike. These gruesome and horrific scenes brought up a frenzy of hate and anger in the Imperial citizens towards Druk Yul, Amur and their allies. Patriotism rose sharply among the civilian population and support for the Emperor reached an all new high. Only the most die hard of citizens who disagreed with the Emperor were left to form parties opposing his rule and they remained silent out of fear of retribution not from the Emperor but from the people.

In the streets of the Imperial cities massive protests against the barbarism of Druk Yul and their allies were carried out with those nations flags being burnt and destroyed. Recruitment numbers jumped as many young men signed up for military service and soon protests from the female members of the population brought on a forced law change allowing woman to join the military under the same conditions as the men.

The Amurese took some casualties, but thanks to the defensive infrastructure supplied by the Druk Yul forces, their losses were acceptable for the result.  89 dead, 413 injured.  The ADF added fire from machine guns to suppress the Siberian offensive on the other side of the river.  Fighting mainly in a supporting role, due to the superior capabilities of Druk Yul, the ADF's firepower mainly lent to stacking on top of casualties made by the Druk Yul, rather than being of great tactical importance.

At the sight of the Siberian retreat, the Amurese began to collect their dead and injured, and began working to repair the defensive infrastructure damaged during the attack, restock, and reorganize.

20 more BTR's were brought up from production and deployed to the front lines.  Meanwhile, the tanks provided by the Japanese also made their way to the fore, as the ADF began to bolster itself.  ADF assets and personnel were kept at high alert, preparing themselves to weather another assault.

---

Border fortification work began along the other borders, preparing for a possible attack from another angle.  Trenches were dug along Northern Kirin and Primorsky, with the construction of bunkers ongoing.  Orders for more BTR's would be filled shortly for deployment to both these possible fronts.

---

News of what was occurring in Siberia reached the Amur Republics.  Visuals of patriotism and flag burning on their part only worked to confuse General Zhao.  "They go on the offensive, attack our nation for selfish and baseless reasons, and their people act as if we perpetrated some great atrocity.  Perhaps if education in that country were up to par, they would understand that the only one to blame would be their emperor," he thought to himself.

Zhao would deploy his top lieutenant general, General Petrovich, to take a more active role on the forward lines.  He would not be deployed at the front, but at a forward command center, closer than the central HQ.

Lee would continue to help coordinate deployments around other areas of Amur from the Command Center near the Druk Yul defenses supposedly where the main Druk Yul general was as well. "You did great beating off their first wave but if what their propaganda news says is true than there will be a lot more coming and these next attacks will probably be much bigger than the first. We need to make sure our men and defenses are ready for another attack because the Russians wont quit until all of them can see it would be an unwinable battle."

"If I may interject, Your Honor."

General Petrovich entered into the command center.  He was posted by General Zhao to the more forward Command Center.

"I agree with your sentiment.  We could be on the verge of escalation on the part of the Siberians.  Their eastward expansion is extremely concerning to us, as they continue to push their way towards the region and taking control of the areas as they go.  If I may, I'd like to make a couple of general proposals.

Based on the relative military superiority of Druk Yul, we may be served by them bolstering the front lines, using their air and mechanized assets, with Amur and Shanghai running troop and armor support.  We have a few tanks sent from the Japanese, and we are working to increase the number of BTR's we are able to deploy.  My initial idea for defense would be the hardening of the northern borders of Primorsky and Kirin (Jilin).  In this way, we may be able to move assets from these areas to the spearhead of Heilongjiang, where the first attack happened.  They will still find it hard to cross the river and this would give us time for redistribution and reinforcement along that front if need be.

If the Japanese were willing to provide missile support from their Navy offshore, we could potentially mount a strong defense and hopefully minimize our own casualties.  There is no guarantee they will try to cross the Amur again, and Druk Yul's satellites will be very important for our combat logistics and keeping tabs on the Siberians.  If you have another plan, I would be more than happy to hear it.  This is just my preliminary suggestion, but our forces do not have very much experience in warfare at this juncture."

He then turned to the Druk (OOC:  Is that the proper demonym?) general.

"But yes, my friend, great show.  Your counter was invaluable and your logistic support was important for our troops.  It gives me great confidence to fight by your side."

In the command center...

General Kai Loden of the Active Reaction Force nodded to his peers. "We have reinforcements coming up from the south. Druk Yul has mobilzied 1/3rd of its forces.. of that, 19 dviisions will be positioned on this front along with their supporting assets. ARES missiles systems will destroy the bridges in international areas which the russians will have to cross to get here.. it will slow them down and make the offensive a logistical nightmare. In order to prevent humanitarian crisis.. we will air drop food stuffs and supplies into the regions affected by transportation disruption where air superiority permits."

He looked to Petrovich. "My men will heed your instructions as if they were my own for now. Your plans seem good, I will need your help in executing them. With my authority, please make it happen. They will comply as you instruct. We'll also reinforce the mine field and add pit traps on the roads on the way here. The pits will have anti-tank explosives at the bottom and will almost certainly destroy anything that falls through the false covers above. Just make sure you mark them well on our maps to prevent accidental transit by our own forces. My engineers are already in the process of implementing the designs. We're also forward deploying motion sensors.. so that if they send scouts again.. they won't even get close without alerting us. The sensors will be disguised as small insect hives. THey'll have no idea what they're passing and the co-ordinates of the active sensor will be broadcast immediately to our artillery."

He smiled, "They have no idea of the demon they're up against. I will make my name among the generals of history as the Fox of the Steppe."

Private in Command Center

General Petrovich received notification from General Zhao.

"Yes sir."

He turned to the Druk general, "The Premiers wish for this conflict to be over, but are afraid that this threat would not be totally washed away.  They wish for me to consult with the allied coalition on the possibility of a limit to eastward expansion for the Siberians.  We do not wish to dictate your foreign policy and the level of your military commitment to the situation.  The Premiers also wish to note we do not want to take on any aggressive movements necessarily, but we do wish to prevent the Russian Empire from expanding to our doorstep.

What do you think of their proposal?"
