The Imperial Russian forces had been ready for their orders for some time now having divided into the necessary battle groups in preparation for combat. With the failure of the Druk Yul diplomatic efforts the time for peace was over now it was time for war. Operations would begin all down the lien of the DMZ as Imperial Russian artillery, both the cannon variant and massed missile variant, would begin bombarding Japanese forces on the other side of the DMZ to them. The numbers in this opening stage of warfare were in favour of the Russians and it was hoped and expected that this would play heavily in influencing the opening stages of the conflict. As the artillery strikes continued to come down on the Japanese positions four separate battle groups advanced off their staging lines to attack the Japanese forces.

 

In the north battle group Alpha advanced with a force of sixty thousand soldiers and three hundred and seventy five main battle tanks moving forward in support with numerous lighter vehicles throwing their fire and mobility into the attack as well. Further bombardment support would be provided by the Imperial Russian fleet just off the coastline. 

 

In the center two battle groups ,named Bravo and Charlie, advanced with sixty thousand soldiers a piece and again supported by three hundred and seventy five main battle tanks in each battle group and numerous light vehicles.

 

In the south battle group Delta was made up of only twenty thousand soldiers but still had the usual support of three hundred and seventy five main battle tanks, their light vehicles though many would also be of a lower amount than the larger battle groups to their north. They would also be more cautious in the advance having a slightly different objective to the other groups.

 

In the air the Imperial Russian air force would remain in a holding pattern in the center area of the developing battle front this allowed them to be close enough to respond to the areas they would be most needed in.

 

In the homeland a reserve force of one hundred thousand soldiers and fighting transports was drawn up however, this force had no tanks in support and almost no light vehicles these already being on the front lines. This force would be a mobile reserve to move and reinforce where required.

Druk Yul raises its defense condition to Defcon 1. Its internal security is also boosted to heightened levels. As a warning shot to the Russian government to back down from crossing the DMV.. Space COM is ordered to knock out all Russian satellites in the vicinity with kinetic kill vehicles and all of Druk Yul's remaining reserves are mobilized and two thirds of them begin moving to the northern border.

 

The Monarchy's press secretary issued the following statement, "We are greatly saddened by Russia's unwillingness to be patient and work with its neighbors and its outright violation of the Harbin accord which its leaders agreed to only days ago. It seems to have been merely a cover to allow for further mobilization. Due to our obligations to assist with supporting the treaty and our responsibility to our SEATO allies, we will be moving to enforce the agreements they are now violating. Within 24 hours any Russian forces found in violation of the DMZ will be engaged. We strongly encourage Emperor Maximilian to de-escalate this situation before he does serious damage to all involved which could put the entire region at risk to outside forces. Russia space operations capabilities are already being neutralized even as I speak as a warning that we are ready to do what is necessary to see that Russia complies with its obligations."

Shanghai forces would deploy to their northern border to defend against any Russian attacks. A force of 50,000 would be stationed at a strategic border crossing to make sure the Russians couldn't get in. More would be on standby to help Druk Yul forces when they needed to.

Position A: 30,000 troops. These were the garrison forces of the Xinjiang Protectorate, they're moving to defend it from Russian incurison.

Roughly 1500 vehicles, mostly tanks.

 

Position B: 100,000 Troops: Center flank Guard, moving into position.

Roughly 4800 vehicles, mostly tanks.

 

Position C: 200,000 Troops: North home border guard, 100,000 are already present and entrenched, another 100,000 are arriving and are deployed for movement.

Roughly 9600 vehicles, mostly tanks.

 

Position D: 100,000 Troops, southern dmz border enforcement guard, moving into position

The standard Druk Yul tank platoon is 4 tanks. 3 Platoons and a headquarters with 2 tanks, a M113A2, 2 M998 HMMWV's and 2 2.5-ton trucks with trailers make up a Company. There are 4 Companies in a Battalion. Armored Battalions are matched 1:1 with Infantry. The matched infantry battalion will be hard (mechanized) or soft dependent upon the terrain it is required to operate in. In extreme terrains, mountaineer battalion with engineers. Every company, regardless of type, is accompanied by a battery of support artillery using either Howtizers or MRLS launchers. Tracked artillery is used in the most difficult terrains as far as they can be maneuvered.

Imperium Intelligence had been expecting the attack, so most soldiers were in vehicles by the time artillery shells began falling. Imperium artillery would begin an organized retreat, systems firing and then moving a few miles to the east, reloading and repeating, with the various artillery pieces turned into four separate groups, allowing for 10 minutes of firing from each group to cover the retreat and reloading of the other units. Tanks IFVs and APCs would provide support fire throughout but due to the numbers from the Russian Empire more than doubling the Imperium's forces in the area it made little sense to fight them head on. A scorched earth policy would be put into effect, rail lines, and other transportation networks that would be helpful to the Russians was destroyed during the retreat.
 
While most nations would avoid a scenario like this, the Empress was not your average ruler, left insecure of Imperium power ever since the War of the Twin Chinas, she had sought any excuse to prove to the rest of the world the Imperium was not to be taken lightly.

At the same time as Empress Hoshiko's speech, The Imperium would move a further 100,000 Army forces in IFVs and APCs, along with nearly 4,000 Type 10 and Type 90 tanks, moving through Liaoning to the northwest.

Imperium UAVs would begin to fly over the Russian military forces, taking pictures and further investigating the makeup of the forces arrayed against the Imperium, military bases in Liaoning, originally set up by the former communist regime would be reopened and the Imperium's air force would begin planning a wide scale attack upon the Russians, but patience would be required in order to properly orchestrate a killing blow.

 

Also in Liaoning, an experimental High Altitude Airship would be set up, carrying a nuclear reactor and holding a powerful array of AM and FM transmitters underneath, the reactor would provide up to 800MW to the transmitters, allowing for the Imperium to hijack at will commonly used Radio stations, or potentially hijack all possible transmission ranges.

Though Russia is far away, we will send 3 divisions of infantry forces, a full armoured division, two airplane squadrons and a battalion of Zaku I Mobile Suits. This will amount to 32,400 mechanised infantrists, 360 tanks, some hundred AA, artillery and other support vehicles, 24 airplanes and 40 Mobile Suits. Amongst the tank division will be a company of our new May Ku'kalan tanks, which we hope will be of great use in this campaign.

The forces mentioned by the Princess in her missive to the Japanese Empress would for the most part have to travel by ship. The plane squadrons - both F-22s, basing themselves on allied airbases - would of course be able to simply cross the Pacific via Hawaii. The Zakus and May Ku'kalan would use faster air transport, modified Antonovs that could carry the bulk of these war machines. However, many were needed to transport those few MS and tanks. The Zakus needed 7 such giant transports, the new tanks 2. Tikal had several more, and they would be used to ferry infantry and support vehicles, but even so they couldn't transport everything that Tikal wanted to commit.

 

The bulk of the forces would arrive in north Korea within two weeks at most, while the ferried troops would take only a day or two. Getting them from there to the frontlines would need some more time, but they'd surely prove their worth.

To counter the Druk Yul KKV strikes the Russian satellites were instructed to begin taking random course adjustments every few seconds to throw off the aim of the KKVs the operators on the ground were unsure if this would fully succeed and regardless while undertaking such movements the satellites would be useless for their manufactured purpose of observation.

 

On the ground Russian artillery would attempt to lay rounds down in the path of the fleeing Japanese troops in the hopes of inflicting a few more casualties where they could manage to do so. The advancing Russian soldiers and military vehicles would take light sporadic losses from the enemy artillery fire their speed and placement ensuring that only a few losses could and would be suffered at a time. The counter artillery did however, slow down their advance so that instead of advancing as one combined front small salients were formed as different units advanced at different paces. However, Russian units would continue to chase after the Japanese troops and the pace of their advance would likely force most of the covering artillery units to dump any of their heavier and slower vehicles and loads of ammunition or risk being caught. 

 

The scorched earth policy was both a curse and a blessing for the Imperial Russians as it meant that bridges and railway lines would be cut and useless requiring either a change in direction or delays as repair or replacement equipment was brought up and yet at the same time it provided great propaganda for the film crews at the mainland who used the captured footage to generate more and more propaganda films. In addition the locals in the DMZ were seeing their homes and livelihoods destroyed before their eyes and though not truly trusting the Russians invading their land at least they were not causing massive destruction. The younger and more passionate members of the DMZ civilian population would form hasty militia units and would be given second rate equipment by the Russian army. They would then be sent to the back lines to await further orders. 

 

In an attempt to counter the Japanese UAVs Russian mobile anti aircraft systems would accompany the advancing forces and engage any UAV they could detect. Even if they couldn't stop them completing their observation missions they would make it as hard as possible for them.

Druk Yul condemns the use of scorched earth Polices by Japan in Siberia. We're reconsidering our support of upholding the DMZ in light of these actions. We reaffirm our commitment to our SEATO partners and will guard their borders, but Japan has just given Russia cause to defend itself and the people of the regions they are harming. Until this behavior changes, Druk Yul will not move against Russia except to support SEATO treaty partners.

 

We do not condone the destruction of the infrastructure of the region or the damage done to the environment by the oil fires.

Contrary to the public statement of Druk Yul that they would not intervene.. they were actually preparing the battlefield. As the Russians plunged east, Friendly Groups A,B, and C suddenly lurched north at full throttle. They would bust through the border guard since there was no posted resistance on the south front. They moved headlong into Russian claimed Territory with Alpha digging immediately into Russian homeland turf.
 
Group Delta would directly engage Enemy Group Delta (EGD) and the Air fleet would begin moving north between Friendly Groups Charlie and Delta.. providing air support, bombardment, and air coverage.  Over 2/3rds of the Druk Yul air force was involved and providing support along the front. More archangels began overflight providing data on positions, troop movements, and force dispositions.
 
In space, the KKVs would wait until the Russians tried to situate a satellite for observation in a stable position before activating their motors to engage it keeping them unable to use them. Cruise missiles would pepper group delta to soften their armor and vehicle count while groups Bravo and Charlie began encircling the enemy from the rear to cut off retreat.
 
The Overlord Class vessels, including the Highwind took the lead with a few escorting EW Deceivers over Enemy Group D, they approached within 40 miles at 40,000 feet, turned broadside.. and began to open fire with 16 inch guns at optimal range for a 45 degree arc. Massive turbines and thrusters would have to fire just to keep the beasts balanced when they fired a volley.

The Druk Yul response had been anticipated by the Emperor and when word came to the troops on the front lines of the Druk Yul advances they expected to halt their advances and be called back to defend the homeland. Thus they were surprised and shocked when their commanders received orders to maintain their advance after the Japanese and to ignore the Druk Yul attackers. The confusion and general unwillingness to accept such orders broke the Russian advance even further forming the attacking battle groups into a mass of disjointed limbs striking out at their own speeds and shape.

 

Battle group Delta faced with the Druk Yul attack took heavy losses as tanks and armoured troop transports were torn apart by first cruise missiles and then cannon shells from the airships. The attack ground to a halt and the troops attempted to take what little cover they could, the Delta force commander thinking on the spot had his rocket and cannon artillery hastily formed into small groups of guns and pieces and engage the hovering battleships with everything they had. Knowing that the Druk Yul had impressive defenses he made sure that the bombardments would all arrive on target at the same exact time aiming to overwhelm enemy defenses with sheer number of available targets. The crews manning these weapons would fire at an impressive rate knowing full well they would likely be dead as soon as they were targeted but willing to sacrifice their lives if it saved their comrades already under fire.

 

In the air the Russian air force's fighter planes reacted to the Druk Yul's air force attack by sending squadron after squadron into battle. The Russian squadrons would come at their Druk Yul counterparts from all angles, from above, below, sweeping around the sides and the more brave pilots coming head on. The pilots would attempt to gain radar lock on the Druk Yul aircraft and engage with air to air missiles and irregardless of success would continue to close and attempt to engage with cannon fire.

 

The large bomber craft of the Russian air force would be sent after the fleeing Japanese forces though they would be sent without fighter escort their orders being to bombard the enemy forces from above and to use their turret gunners to deter fighter planes. Most knew this to be an almost suicidal mission but they had all been trained to carry out their orders so they would follow them as required and expected moving out to find and bomb Japanese forces.

 

The ground attack aircraft would not be sent after the Japanese instead they were sent against the Druk Yul airship fleet, these planes would attempt to fly past the aerial fight developing between the Russian and Druk Yul planes keeping as much distance as they could allow between them before forming up into one massive aerial group and diving in to strike at the airships. The pilots prepared to sell their lives dearly to achieve the best results with most pilots determined to crash their planes directly into the Druk Yul airships if they became too badly damaged to survive to return to base.

The commander of the Dragonisian Ground forces would take advantage of the disarray.Large swathes of panicking Russian forces would be cornered and forced to surrender or perish. Those who did not surrender would be cut down. The rapid maneuvering mechanized forces rapidly pocketed and captured the broken pockets of resistance.. breaking through the lines at weak points. The death toll was staggering. This would be one of Dragonisias hardest fought wars and there were a couple of hundred deaths on the ground and twice that in injuries just in the first day of battle.

The battleships were using some of the longest ranged artillery on the planet. The 16 inch guns were also being utilized at their maximum range, and maximum arc, meaning most of the Delta force artillery shots simply fell short despite the clever thinking of their commander. And at 40 miles away, and 40,000 feet up, even anti-aircraft would have a difficult time reaching the targets. The rockets, however, being self propelled were a threat and fired in mass they did pose a threat. However, missiles that were guided were decoyed, jammed, or diverted by the combat air patrol surrounding the fleet.. but the dumb fire rockets would make it through that layer of defense. There just weren't enough of them and the laser grid set up by the THELs carried by the air fleet would knock all but a handful of projectiles out of the sky. One of the deceiver class vessels would note a rocket shell making it through the grid and moved itself between the rocket and the Overlord Trafalgar. It exploded against the forward section of the ship... and the nose of the deceiver sagged forward as some of its air escaped the internal drums, listing in the sky. Smoke bellowed from its forward hull. Repair teams moved to attempt to control the flames.

A second shell slipped past the laser grid and the escorts, it glanced against the bottom hull of the Trafalgar at a shallow angle. It managed to severely dent the drum with a moderate puncture, but it wasn't sufficient to cause the behemoth to list. The drums were made of Kelvar and Vanta Black. The internal segmentation were all cloth kevlar. The external hull and its vanta black covering though was incredibly robust. The launch sites of the threat centers were given targeting priority by surface ordinance and the fleet began to play whack-a-mole as the pockets of resistance sprung up. The fleet would also send intelligence to ground forces to let them know where to engage threats to the air fleet.

The pilots would attempt to gain radar lock on the Druk Yul aircraft and engage with air to air missiles and irregardless of success would continue to close and attempt to engage with cannon fire.

 

The CAP battle was a bloody mess. Older planes fell rather easily with several F17 and F15 equivalents being taken out in the fight, four fell from the sky the first day. The others managed to dance, flare, and jam themselves out of harms way. With the DYS-71j flying jamming cap overhead it was hard to get a lock with anything that wasn't operating on a Druk Yul radar frequency. In the mean time, the f22s and the F-35s were having a field day with the Russians on a battlefield in which they were being actively rendered blind.

Worse, the air forces of the Russian military found themselves being engaged by THEL systems when those systems were not engaging missile fire.. and while it may take a while to work.. if one of those beams focused on a fuel tank long enough the aircraft would explode. The THEL were also targetting air-to-air ordinance that was not squawking a Druk Yul RF reply so that when they did get a lock; not only were the missiles having to not be jammed, not be evaded, and not be diverted by flares or chaff, but to reach target it also had to survive the laser grid the ground forces had brought with them. For every 1000 troops, there was a THEL, one per company. In groups b and c, there were over 100 companies.
 

The large bomber craft of the Russian air force would be sent after the fleeing Japanese forces though they would be sent without fighter escort their orders being to bombard the enemy forces from above and to use their turret gunners to deter fighter planes. Most knew this to be an almost suicidal mission but they had all been trained to carry out their orders so they would follow them as required and expected moving out to find and bomb Japanese forces.

The Druk Yul air force did not engage the bombers. They were to busy protecting their own assets and many of them were flying over the infantry or around the air fleet.
 

The ground attack aircraft would not be sent after the Japanese instead they were sent against the Druk Yul airship fleet, these planes would attempt to fly past the aerial fight developing between the Russian and Druk Yul planes keeping as much distance as they could allow between them before forming up into one massive aerial group and diving in to strike at the airships. The pilots prepared to sell their lives dearly to achieve the best results with most pilots determined to crash their planes directly into the Druk Yul airships if they became too badly damaged to survive to return to base.

These poor souls would be flying into the hornets nest. There was a reason the carrier ships were called hives. There was a CAP around the fleet.. that on radar or from satellite observation, might look like a buzz saw from the air. The air superiority fighters would engage the ground attack aircraft before they even came within 200 nautical miles of the fleet. But with their persistence. a squadron made it through the CAP. It was almost like they had been allowed through, but why?

On the bridge of the Highwind, Maelstrom changed forms. He didn't become a dragon, like this realitys' natural state was when he fell from the sky. When he left that human state, he grew wings like a demon. His robes turned yellow. He grew thin.. and gaunt.

Cecil stepped away. He spoke as he did, "What.. are you?"  Cecil's eyes glowed green, then yellow, and then his soul fled from him and into Maelstrom. The same thing happened over much of the rest of the fleet, as it then just hovered there in flight not responding to the approaching threat. All of their essence gathered into Maelstrom as he assumed a very visible, gaunt, and towering form on the bridge of the Highwind. The ground attack craft saw him there. But that alone would be their very undoing. Maelstrom had to act quickly, he would not be able to sustain the form of the King in Yellow very long.

"I am everything that I imagine..." He whispered a brief reply to his fallen subject. He then began a sort of prayer,"Ia.. ia.. Cthulu.. fthagan. I am dreamer of the lands to the south. I call to the master of the South Sea and the lands of R'lyeh, flay the minds of these mortals with your shapeless gibbering mouth." He reached out towards the sky and drew upon it in front of him, the yellow sign, and it burned there before them. "Rob them of their minds.. for mine has long been lost." His seemingly masked and hollow visage gazed upon the approaching ground aircraft.

 

 

It was a truly unnatural scene, the visage of Maelstrom was warped like it was half-in, half-out of reality. The air fleet seemed to be a ghost fleet for the moment. Storms had gathered beneath the ships and  to the pilots seemed to be swirling beneath the Highwind. And that sign seemed to take shapes that didn't seem to work in this reality and messed with the eyes.

 

The elder sign would compel the last 4 surviving attackers.. to fly their craft into each other.

 

ooc: Hrmm wonder what the will save is for panicked routing Russians on a suicide mission.

OOC:  If I am correct, I do not think that citizens of the DMZ can be RP'd by either side, as it is white space.  Per the rules, they cannot be used to influence this conflict.

As the Druk Yul forces entered the fight and began to burn through behind the Siberian advance, a small force of 12,000 ADF soldiers, not on the Northern Border Front, departed bases with a compliment of vehicular support, artillery, and anti-aircraft.  The expeditionary force would be designated Army Group Guandao.  They would be looking to link up with the closest Japanese grouping to Amur's Northern border.  There, they would attempt to coordinate with the localized Japanese force to formulate an area counterattack.  The hope was to break one of the already breaking Siberian advance, allowing more of the Japanese forces to begin recovering from the initial assault and turn the tide. 

 

Forces stationed in Amur were already on high alert and dug in deep.  The Northern areas of the UAR, being almost completely devoid of society, especially after evacuations from the first Siberian incursion, had been massively militarized and fortified.  After repairs to the emplacements left from Druk Yul forces and reconstruction of trenches and tank pits, they would be ready to repel an attack.  Artillery had already been moved into sheltered positions away from the front, but within range, with medium range rocket artillery and SAM's prepared for any Imperial Russians who may stray close to the border in their advances.

Once Shanghai forces got closer to the Japanese front it became clear just how desperate the situation was. They could see the Russian Air Force chasing after the fleeing Japanese troops and Jesse knew something had to be done about that. "Lee it is time for the Shanghai Air Force to spring the trap."

 

"You got it Jesse. Our Sukhoi PAK FAs will engage and destroy those Russian air forces that are bombing the Japanese troops. Once they are destroyed you should be able to rally the Japanese troops and help them engage the other Russian troops that are out there. You win this battle and this war will be in the bag."

 

"Roger that Lee. Jesse out."

 

In the air above the Japanese front Shanghai Sukhoi PAK FAs would engage the Russian bombers. If the Russians wanted to commit suicide by going after the Japanese forces than that was pretty much what was about to happen. "Dragon Squadron your orders are to engage and destroy the Russian forces that are chasing after the Japanese soldiers. Wipe them out!"

Tikal's forces would, once getting towards the battlefield, be applied where Russian forces were the thickest and most numerous. This meant battling against the central formation, the Russians calling their side 'Beta'. Tikal's forces were for the time being dubbed 'Tikal Expeditionary Force Asia'.

 

By the time the bulk of the TEFA were halfway through the Pacific, parts of it were already en route to the front. 40 Zakus, 10 May Ku'kalan tanks, 24 F-22 air superiority fighters and 2 battalions of mechanised infantry (2,400 men), accompanied by a tank battalion (40 vehicles) and various support vehicles such as AA and artillery were within 100 km of the front. The airplanes had taken a pause of 6 hours on an airbase nearby while the ground troops were working their way on the terrible roads of Siberia.

The two fighter squadrons got orders to take off and work towards air-superiority in tandem with their Japanese allies, and to cover the Japanese retreat, if necessary. Using long-ranged air-air missiles was preferable, but lower-ranged weaponry was acceptable as well. Being stealth planes, however, the pilots were advised to stay a minimum of 15 kilometres away from the Russians in order to not give a large enough cross section of their planes. F-22 were excellent stealth planes, after all, and distance was their greatest friend.

 

The ground forces had the orders to engage the Russians and slow them down as necessary in order to permit the Japanese time to regroup. 40 Zakus, 10 May Ku'kalan and 40 Leopard 2A7+ tanks were not a large force. Neither were only 2,400 infantry, around 140 IFVs and 200 APCs. The support vehicles counted 60 SP-Artillery and as many AA systems.

 

Several of the infantry were, however, not quite standard. Eldar aspect warriors had joined, with several squads of all kinds. The most numerous were Fire Avengers and Fire Dragons, with 10 squads each. The other aspect paths had contributed 5 squads each, making for 50 squads of Eldar - just around 400 warriors in total.

 

Combined, these forces could stop and delay enemies many times their number. The Zakus and May Ku'kalan, sporting the heaviest armour, were the spearhead upon which the Russian assault would impale itself. The standard Zaku came with a 120mm autocannon, enabling it to lay hell upon whatever the gun was aimed at. The sheer amount of rounds fired meant that even airplanes and helicopters could easily become victim of these powerful guns if they weren't careful. On the other hand, the PHEELS was a particle beam that simply wrecked whatever it was pointed at, to a range of approximately 20 kilometres.

 

The Leopard tanks would stay back and fire at targets of opportunity, otherwise supporting infantry forces by providing them with mobile cover and taking out heavy armament by the enemy. The infantry and Eldar would all work to the best of their ability to destroy all those opposing them.

 

Dire Avengers laid monomolecular death upon those in their sights, while Fire Dragons fired fusion-powered destruction upon vehicles getting into their range. Howling Banshees were melee specialists, stupendously swift with sonic amplifiers that would surely stun their foes as they shrieked in rage, allowing them to slaughter the paralysed foe with shuriken pistols and power weapons of all sorts. Their closest battle siblings, the Striking Scorpions prowled the chaos of the battlefield, infiltrating behind enemy lines with expert skill to lay ambushes, kill officers and sow general confusion.

 

Swooping Hawks meanwhile assisted the Zakus and May Ku'kalan, using their great mobility and great wings rained death from above whenever they could, flying wherever needed. Dark Reapers used their Reaper Launchers with great skill, firing small armour-piercing missiles upon any target in range, from helicopters to jeeps and tanks. Even fixed-wing airplanes were not quite secure from their weapons and would be attacked if they came too close.

 

Shadow Spectres supported standard infantry and the Leopard tanks using Prism Rifles to fire deadly particle beams, cutting a swath of destruction wherever they hit. Though three or four of them had to combine their beams to take out tanks, they still were powerful, like all others armoured with powerful Aspect armour. Jetpacks and holo-fields gave them great mobility and stealth capabilities.

 

The last of the Aspect warriors to battle were the Warp Spiders. Though their method of transport was dangerous, they revelled in the death and destruction brought upon their enemies, appearing behind an enemy, unloading their murderous Death Spinner into them before teleporting elsewhere only moments later. Death incarnate, they sometimes styled themselves.

 

These were the forces that the Battlegroup 'Beta' had to confront if they wanted to get at the Japanese.

As the Shanghai fighters destroyed the Russian bombers above them Jesse and the rest of the Lee's forces deployed with the Eldar forces from Tikal. Lee noticed their fighting style and compared it to the way the dragons of ancient times fought as well. "I have not seen anyone fight with speed and grace like that since the time of the ancient dragons. Could it be possible our race spread so far that it influenced cultures on the other side of the world as well?"

 

"Anything is possible Lee." Jesse would say as their forces of 50,000 troops helped engage the main Russian army with their Tikal allies. "There is much we do not know about even our race and for all we know the ancients could have spread across the world."

 

"Do you think they would mind having a few dragons fighting alongside them?" Lee asked as they changed into their dragon forms and began attacking the Russian troops with the rest of their forces.

 

"No Lee I don't think they would mind at all."

Under the combined assault of the allied enemy forces the Russian troops would suffer heavy losses though the actual amount of losses varied between each battle group. Battle group Alpha and Beta took only light to moderate losses and were able to make a full withdrawal away from the Japanese and back towards the homeland. The soldiers would maintain close formation to help concentrate their firepower to ward off any enemy attack. Battle group Charlie would suffer moderate losses in greater amounts to the other two battle groups to their north being closer to the enemy but they would still be able to withdraw with most of their equipment and numbers intact. Battle group delta would suffer heavy if not almost total losses and theirs would be a retreat not a withdrawal the surviving soldiers and equipment forming into one long salient that would strike at the Druk Yul troops like a lance in an attempt to spear through them and get back to the homeland.

 

The aerial campaign would go poorly for the Russians the enemy stealth planes being almost impossible to engage and reaping a heavy toll on the Russian fighters after only a few short minutes of fighting the remaining fighter planes would activate their after burners and flee from the airspace for the homeland. The ground attack planes would be wiped out by the combined defenses of the airship fleet, their Draconian commander and their cloaked combat air patrol. The Russian bombers were ordered to abort their bombing runs on the Japanese and return home but would still find themselves being bounced by the Shanghai fighters loosing some of their number but hopefully taking a few out with their defensive fire.

 

In the Russian homeland defense troops and local militia forces would begin assembling and preparing to defend their homes in the anticipated counter invasion by the allied forces. The defenders were ready to fight to defend their homes with their lives with many pledging to not let one foreign invader live if they so much as stepped on native Imperial soil.

All of a sudden, the persuit of Russian forces by Druk Yul forces halted. A letter was sent to Maximillian and all other combatants.
 
 

Druk Yul is appalled by the apparent threat by Shanghai to exterminate an entire culture within a month. We hereby extend a ceasefire offer to the Russian Empire while we investigate these threats that have come under a SEATO letter head in violation of the very spirit of the treaty the letter touts as a weapon. We hereby call Emperess Mei to send diplomatic representation to SEATO HQ to explain her threats of violating the terms of our treaty which call for respect of all Asian nations, their cultures, and the use of force only as a last resort. I guarantee all involved, this does not reflect the common sentiment of SEATO nations and we will be reconsidering Empress Mei's appointment as diplomatic liason. In the meantime, Druk Yul Forces will maintain the DMZ, but have been called back from the Russian homeland in light of these threats which are dramatically inappropriate for a member state of SEATO.

Aboard the highwind, all had returned to normal.. none of the crew remember the moment their souls were lost and while some questioned the lost time none could account for why it happened.

Several of the UAVs would manage to get themselves shot down, their data was reviewed and at least 60% of the losses were blamed upon pilot error, those that were not were given over to the military's research division to further analyze and come up with a solution for the next time they'd be used. Furthermore, at least two dozen of the Type 10s ended up breaking down, transmissions working poorly in the rough terrain, once the reason for their breakdown was transferred back to the command the vehicles were abandoned and then destroyed, not wishing to leave equipment to be turned against them later. After several hundred kilometers of retreat under the protection of heavy bombardment from friendly artillery, the Imperium's lines met their reinforcements from Tikal and the Imperium, but at the same time the message was received from Maximillian. Suddenly the Imperium was left in a quandary, a multicultural nation, the Imperium had many political issues with threats of genocide, Japan's own actions in world war two were not forgotten by history, and many of the Imperium's holdings were quite apprehensive of Japan's control of them, Kazuko spent over an hour contemplating their next move.

The Imperium forces would be withdrawn to Liaoning, 180,000 troops, nearly half of the Imperium's army was based in Liaoning now, with nearly 3,000 Type 10 and Type 90s, almost 10,000 Type 96 and Type 89s, and thousands of artillery pieces. additionally, 100,000 Marines would be transferred to Taiwan, the island turned into a staging ground, RORO ships flooding equipment, ammunition and everything else that would be required for war across the sea from the home islands. The Imperium made little attempt to hide the movements. but for now, they would wait.

 

The 1st, 3rd, and 4th fleets would lay in various positions in the Yellow Sea, the East China Sea, and the South China Sea.

 

The full compliment of 108 F-22 Mōkins were relocated to Taiwan, Liaoning, and South Joseon. resupplies for the air domiance fighters weapons were also moved, allowing for resupply of the Tikal aircraft assisting the Imperium. The majority of F-15 Slam Eagles, F-15Js, and F-2 airframes were also in attendance in the previously mentioned locations, the Imperium was ready for war.
